Lionel was inspired to write this from a toast his father gave his mother Alberta saying "She's a great lady, she's a great mother, and she's a great friend". That toast made him realize he never thanked his wife for her sacrifices, so he put pen to paper.
Leonel Richey, left the commodore shortly after this big hit. And of course the rest is history. A fun video of Kenny Rodgers, singing his Big hit Lady, if you haven't heard it yet, fantastic Performance. But Leonel wrote that song... Kenny brought Leonel up on stage to sing duet, years later...touching moment...both sound great....
Not really, this was 1977, the split in like 83. They were much better together tbh. They became a huge band out of Tuskegee Al. in the early 70s, about 75 mikes from where I live, and they were really a Funk Band, but Lionel's ballads were big hits so it kind of created a rift in the band.
Love Commodores and Lionel Richie...some of their great songs: Still, Sail On, Nightshift, Lady. A few great songs from Lionel Richie are Stuck on You, Hello , All Night Long, Say You Say Me.
when Lionel Ritchie left the Commodores to go solo, he had a lot of great hits. One of my all time favorites is "Truly". Incredibly beautiful and romantic song. great voice and lyrics. Without a doubt, check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VxqYy2_-vwQ.html
Hey Ky & Nick. Love the reaction 👏👏 I love it when you guys take me there. Go down that rabbit hole...you won't be disappointed. "Easy" "Zoom" " Just to be Close to You" "Still ". Lionel Richie sanged lead, one of the best bands of the 70's. 👍 great job
I love their reaction, too! Missing from your list of Commodore songs (no criticism, Kevin) is a totally different vibe song by the Commodores called 'Brick House'. Lionel Richie was in that one but the vocals and the sound was totally off the charts funk! :) Everyone I know loved 'Brick House'. Different kind of dancing was involved to that one. ;)
@@jmcquown None taken. You are absolutely correct. I loved "Brick House". 36 24 36....what a winning hand. Lol. I'm just more of a ballader kind of guy. I love r&b slow jams. Late night, radio, quiet storm music. Yeaaa
