We sailed on P&O Azura for 7 nights in February 2023 to the Canary Islands and Madeira. We have put together this review of our experiences onboard P&O Azura so that may give you a better insight. P&O Azura was launched in April 2010 and is a part of the "Grand-class" of ships in P&O Cruises' fleet. It has a passenger capacity of around 3,100 guests, and it offers a variety of cabin types, including inside cabins, outside cabins, balconies, and suites. The ship's design emphasises a relaxed and modern cruising experience, catering to a range of travellers, from families to couples.

We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.
Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks. We include menus for each of cruises so that we can share the selection of drinks and meals that are available. Entertainment onboard a cruise ship is important to us and we enjoy theatre production shows, live music, quizzes and game shows. We love to explore different ports and destinations and enjoy sharing tips and tricks so that you can make the most of each port. We often explore ports independently but also book excursions that are interesting to us.
We have created a list of our cruise essentials. These are items we take with us when we travel and we hope they may be useful to you. We have also added a Wine list which contains some of the wines we have tried whilst cruising.

Thanks guys, great summary, we also embark on a Saturday in December so will see what's left for speciality dining. It seemed the main dining (and midnight feasts) were pretty good so it shouldn't spoil our enjoyment. Cheers !

Thanks again for another great series on Azura gents. We have booked a 7 day cruise next July on the Azura - 1st time with P&O. We've just booked a cheeky 14 night Christmas getaway on Marella Discovery leaving on 14th Dec and again we are so excited as we've never been away over the holiday period. I wish you had been vlogging when you sailed on Queen Mary 2. A Cunard cruise is on my bucket list. Thanks again Tom & Dom. 💙💙

Currently onboard the Azura. No virtual queue, very accommodating for 8 of us. Staff working extremely hard, entertainment is great. The only speciality restaurant we have been to is ‘The Beach House’. Personal opinion, prefer the food in main dining. Sit back, relax and enjoy, time away with loved ones beats working.

⁠@@TomandDomTravelI genuinely don’t know, its first time cruising with P&O and everything seemed to go swimmingly. Also, the entertainment was first come, first viewed. Only one night we waited for a 2nd showing.

I totally agree , value for money on P&O is outstanding . My wife and I are back on Azura next week which will be our 4th time this year. Yes she is not the newest, yes the food menu and cocktail choices are not as good as other cruise lines , however , hey you get what you pay for . We always go for a balcony cabin and at circa £575 per person inclusive of flights its very fair. We have done over 30 cruises on Princess but hey since 2020 P&O tick the boxes for us. Yes corners and standards are being cut on most cruise lines ,However at least P&O reflect this in their pricing .

Enjoyed your reviews, going on this cruise in 11 days can’t wait. I’ve been able to book speciality dining two weeks before sailing but not the entertainment have to wait and book on their system when aboard..

Gentleman, excellent balanced review in my view. The smooth nature of travel days always makes a massive difference! 💯 agree on buffet same was on Ventura! Ridiculous! Cannot believe the situation with speciality restaurants! P&O make booking stuff more complicated than it should be, Carnival should give them the money to invest in proper app like royal. Thanks for sharing made me look at Azura.

Virtual queueing was not in operation for our 16 night cruise that we have just come off. Two weeks before departure we were able to pre book speciality restaurants besides the Glass House and was only available once onboard. Always able to book the Beach House even though they were very busy.

To be honest I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is to do with the issues it was causing not just on Azura but other ships, but using pagers worked well.@@TomandDomTravel

Hi guys I like your reviews and I'll keep watching and I'll keep asking the same questions. I am an avid reader and I always go to the library with my almost finished the book to donate to the library and find another book on a cruise ship. I also have started to play bridge and look at the card room to see how many tables they have and maybe even do a bit of a jigsaw puzzle or two. I love to play bingo and unusually win some money when I play on a cruise so that's another thing you never mention and I'm sure they do have bingo on P&O. So could you just check those things for some of us who are interested and add that to some of the information that you provide. Thanks a lot.

Yes, I’ve paid more and it’s less than the price of a couple, but not a huge amount less. I can’t compare the price against a single cabin as there were none available however I’m looking forward to having the extra space and will get the beds set as a twin configuration.

Thank you both for a super review, like you we board on a Saturday in December- and in the past ( Jan 2022 on Azura ) have liked the ' glass house ' which we had hoped for '' my birthday '' looks like it will be fully booked .

Hi guys, great positive review. A couple of questions; when you checked your bags at Gatwick did you have to collect them at the other end or were they sent to the ship? Just need to know what to put in our hand luggage. Also, the pre mixed cocktails, is this because you had a drinks package or is it peculiar to Azura? I sailed on Britannia last year without a drinks package and the cocktails were all made fresh.

Hi thanks for your question. Yes you collect your bags from baggage claim at the airport and then you take them to the bus yourself. We’ve been on various P&O ships last being Iona in February and we’ve found all ships inconsistent with the cocktail so bars do some don’t! We have found that cocktails in the Crows Nest the best at being made to order! However Azura only has the planet bar at the aft of the ship!

This cruise was booked directly with P&O. We did use their price promise to match the price with one we found online though.

Interesting to hear your review. We were on Azura in April, from Valletta around Croatia. The itinerary was excellent as was the organisation of the flights (like you, from LGW) and transfers of luggage and ourselves both ways. However, also totally agree that the pre-mixed cocktails were very, very poor and the bar service, in general, was very poor also. They had this crazy system where you couldn’t order from the bar staff even if they had nothing to do. A bar man in the Glasshouse stood doing absolutely nothing, staring at me for ten minutes whilst I had to wait for someone to take my order, go and enter it in a terminal, send it to the bar printer for the barman to collect and then pour my Diet Coke from the pump in between him and me! We also found the MDR food to be of the poorest quality of the four cruise lines we have been on so far (Princess, Celebrity, MSC and P&O) - a risotto one evening looked like the result of a very choppy sea 🤢. Plus the “anytime dining” was a farce - we had to take a pager and wait up to 1.5 hrs almost every night. Suffice to say, we don’t intend to cruise Azura or P&O again based on this experience.

I think the price you paid is phenomenal, clearly just filling empty cabins, I am looking at a cruise in May and can't see prices anything like this. Shame!

Fantastic! The main parade takes place right outside the cruise terminal and in the streets nearby. It’s all walkable within 10 minutes of terminal

Hi thanks for your question. We booked the cruise at the end of November 2022. We booked direct with P&O but we did use their price match promise as we found the cruise £25 pp cheaper within 24 hours of making the booking. P&O gave us a £50 refund. ☺️

I have to say, when you factor in the cruise price and included air fare, one starts to wonder how this is possible. I’ll trade zero specialty dining to obtain the super affordable price.
