The issue unfortunately is that many people get into this stuff with the Historic or Abrahamic mindest without even knowing it. Christianity for example is “Of the book” religion, thus static. If one is too focused on “Evidence”, archaeology, history books, it would be very limiting and no room for spiritual growth. Does one need evidence to enjoy the beauty of a rose? Of course not. Is it a heresy to use a later form of a name? (Proto-Germainc: *Þunraz evolved into Old Norse Þōr) Of course not. Things can change and still remain true to the original. In order to get out of these mindsets is to look at the living Indo-European example of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism). No one is bound by book in that because the emphasis is for one’s own spiritual development, not how whether one “obeys” x, y, and z book.

Leornende. You've opened my eyes. It's so obvious actually... I'll confess. I fall into this mental trap occasionally and yes, my Christian upbringing might contribute a lot to that.

If you get bored I asked N.J. A question about groups and motivations. I tried to copy it, but my phone wouldnt let me. Key question; am I just a "mystic" that will find disappointment with group "motivations"...

Can i get into the Old ways, like to start believing in it. Even if i maybe dont have Norse or Scandinavian ancestry, or if i do how do i find out if i do have it. I am from Croatia, and I was from a young age a christian (baptized aswell) but i feel that lack of idk spirituality, i dont know like lack of something, then i started to learn about the Norse beliefs and the Old ways and i just felt that "pull" of something, i want to find out more about it, feel it, learn about it. I would want some of my questions answered if possible just to get some sort of guidance or a path to open up so i find out more. And if i can switch to the Old ways of believing how? or can I still do it if i dont have any scandinavian ancestry? Sorry for bad english, I hope to get some sort of response by people who already know about this information? Thanks in advance.

not even a dot , of course you can take inspiration from the norse gods without norse ancestry. Look back towards your own pagan heritage as well. I am sure you will find a lot of similarities in pre christian croatian culture and prechristian germanic!

@@nordicjourneys From what i found out the pre christian germanic belived in the "german mythology" which was Old Norse, Anglo-Saxon mythology and Continetal Germanic mythology. All of them basicly include Thor and some others based on old norse, i think. While Croatians came from Old Ilirys, but we got "slavanized" turned into slavs? Of some sort? Ilirs didnt have a god basicly from what i found. They didnt have a religion but some sort of tribes. So later the slav things came ( we are basicly some sort of slavs now i think) and in slavic mythology ( its also based on natural causes and nature, like thunder and soo on). Its also based on a lot of norse mythology, slavic have a god called Perun, that is basicly Thor, ( he has a carrige pulled by goats, uses a hammer and an axe and when he strikes he causes lightining).And the world tree is also mentioned with a dragon/snake at its roots, which is really simillar to ygdrasil. So somehow from what i found ( correct me if im wrong) its all connected to old norse. Even tho croats do have a few tales od their own like fairies that build the colluseum in pula over night. But before that it all kinda connects through slavic mythology and german "mythology" (dont know if that is the correct term) to the Old Norse especially in the slavic. In my opinion. Thanks for the advice to look into pre christian croatia and germany, it kinda opened my eyes and showed me how we all have some similarities with us, and it all connects to old norse , and that is living with nature and personifications of nature. Atleast i think thats how it is? Please correct me if im wrong. If there are some wrong information in what i found out correct me if you can. Thanks for reading this, and sorry for bad english. Cheers :D Sorry for the long text :/ hope it didnt bore you or cause problems.

That's funny how you mentioned someone saying they were an 'ascended being'. It's quite silly when pagans get arrogant like that. Most pagans think they've received some sign from the Gods at one point, doesn't make you special.

Others opinions are not always evil just because it doesn't fit your beliefs. Some people can be asshole and others just don't like it when people water down their beliefs. People talk a lot about its a personal belief yet go and spread their own agenda. Are we done beating around the bush now? Lol
@professorracc.9780

The issue comes when people confuse opinion and fact. I don't think he's against folks having different opinions at all.

@@professorracc.9780 Very true. Seems to happen a lot these days. We don't have too many facts in Asatru. Most was written by a Christian after the viking age.
