Our SECRET SURPRISE and we dine in the BAYOU CAFE on Island Princess - DAY 14 VLOG

Day 14 was our second sea day as we made our way back to Southampton on our Island Princess Iceland and Greenland cruise. We had a leisurely morning taking in some of the many activities and events that were taking place onboard. We dined in the Bordeaux Restaurant for lunch and experienced some of our Princess favourites. In the main atrium the famous Egg Drop coemption was taking place however we came away a little disappointed. In the evening, we had booked ourselves into the Bayou Café and we found that the menu that was on offer on our embarkation day had changed. Our experience in the Bayou Café was not the best. We watched the fabulous Yaniv Zarif in the Princess Theater, this was his second performance and Yaniv did not disappoint. We ended our evening in the Explorers Lounge.

Island Princess is part of Princess Cruises' fleet and was launched in 2003. It belongs to the Coral-class of ships and has been a popular choice for travellers seeking a cruise experience with a balance of comfort and luxury. Princess Cruises, in general, is known for offering a range of amenities and services to make passengers' experiences enjoyable. The ship offers various entertainment options, including live performances, musicals, and themed events. Island Princess provides a variety of cabins and suites to cater to different preferences and budgets.
We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.
Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks. We include menus for each of cruises so that we can share the selection of drinks and meals that are available. Entertainment onboard a cruise ship is important to us and we enjoy theatre production shows, live music, quizzes and game shows. We love to explore different ports and destinations and enjoy sharing tips and tricks so that you can make the most of each port. We often explore ports independently but also book excursions that are interesting to us.

We dined in the crown grill on Sky Princess last week - cheesy garlic bread to start and 2 macarons on the chocolate dessert! They did ask us to cut into the steaks though which is a first , and we sent one back lol😂 We thought the steakhouse on Celebrity Beyond was better overall… 😬

We didn’t hear any Latin music on this cruise. There was a late night disco with one of the entertainment team but wasn’t well attended.

How disappointing. The food we had in Bayou on Island wasn't quite to our taste - we were on her back in September/October 2022 - but the thing we really liked about it was that it was something different. However, looking at the the Princess site now it definitely seems that they have switched to a generic steakhouse experience instead on the ship. What a pity. Must be part of the greater cost-cutting exercises Princess are doing fleet-wide to make everything as much the same as possible. Our biggest gripe with the ships is that it's sometimes impossible to really tell which one you're on any longer. Not unique to Princess, of course; we feel the same about Virgin too. Anyway, you're both monsters for wanting your steak medium. Rare and juicy is the only way to go.

@2:02. What's going on here? Has the channel converted to the 'Healthy Diet Channel'? 😉 Maybe it's the camera angles but the portions look quite small relative to the plate sizes. After several walks around the promenade deck, one would think you need ENERGY! No Eggs Benedict or crispy bacon in the morning? By the look ofd things, I suspect you both have dropped 1 stone with all this healthy eating. LOL... LOL...@9:33. Ahhhh. Tom waiving from so far away was hilarious. To paraphrase Edwina Monsoon (AbFab), 'Why did they seat you in that far-away shame-hole?'. With respect, for the price you paid for dinner, you should have not only sent it back , but had it replaced, AND asked someone to come forward to explain. A rudimentary cook can temperature confirm the internal temperature of a filet. You should not be charged for your meal and need to report this to management onboard. I understand historically, you don't want to make a fuss BUT you went above and beyond with your patience. Sometimes being more assertive is required.

Hi Chris, hope you are well! If only, I think we must have put on at least 2 stone each! Cutting out breakfast on the odd day did not help 😂 Neither did the nightly room service 😂 Bayou was not the best experience onboard for us, we had far better in the main dining room. We were interested in trying some gator from the original menu! This was the first cruise with the new crown grill menu hopefully it has improved! Agreed it was not very good at all and we should have been a bit more annoyed! 😒
