I LOVE how you two interact! Respectful and kind. You don't interrupt, even when your partner pauses to reflect mid-sentence. I also LOVE this setting, and congrats on your new kitchen. Thanks again for not finishing each other's sentences. Rare on RU-vid videos. You project calm demeanors on camera, there's no hurry-up fast talking. You're unique in another way: you aren't both on the same diet; you found success with what works for each of you. So there's no preaching about only one diet is correct etc. I appreciate your videos; you help many of us viewers. Diane

Where I am right now I have lost 30 pounds. Not many people have said anything to me, which I’m okay with. My husband keeps saying "You need to buy new clothes." I keep saying "I’m just not ready yet." I think it’s fear of being disappointed of trying on a smaller size and it’s too tight. The fact I hate clothes shopping doesn't help. So when you were talking about trying on clothes, I started crying. Thank you for this honest view into your struggles.

Just watched one of your videos for the first time. Really enjoyed it! I started my keto journey 17 months ago when my husband ended up in ICU with a blood sugar of 876. I knew that if we did not change our diet, I would be there next. Every day I pray, “Lord, Jesus, help me to eat today in a manner that pleases You.” I have lost 55 pounds and am 8 pounds from my goal. Thank you for your inspiring words.

Great video. Individuals sabotage themselves by saying they can’t get rid of their “big” clothes because they worry about gaining it back. (We’ve all done that), no matter how good we feel when we put on a pair of pants or shirt that is a couple/few sizes smaller!!

Thank you for addressing these barriers! It help me so much. I lost a substantial amount of weight over 5 yrs ago. I received a lot of attention which I had no idea how to deal with. It made me feel like I looked like a beast before. They would go on and on about my appearance. Consequently, I gained back all of the weight plus 20 lbs more! 😢 I have been struggling to lose weight for 5 years now however I refuse to give up.

Great topic! All soooo true. I started to lose wt and NO ONE was saying anything. Made me crazy. HOW CAN YOU NOT NOTICE THIS?! And now I am experiencing those folks finally saying something and Im not totally comfortable with them asking! What a ride. I wondered if folks weren't saying anything as they were being respectful, as if by mentioning it, they were telling me they thought I was overweight. I am being sure to tell folks now that my reasons for losing wt (I'm 60) is to get my bio markers in order and get off the medications for high sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Lost 85 lbs so far and am off Metformin. BS is now way in the normal ranges. I am also in having a hard time dealing with the new me in the mirror. I still don't see the slimmer person. I still see Big Me looking back. Fitting into the smaller clothes is amazing. I felt like Becky when I zipped up a pair of jeans and actually had to go look for a smaller pair!!!! Heres a tip, shop at Goodwill while you are transitioning. If you cant find a pair of jeans in there, they dont exist! God Bless You both.

I am so glad to hear you say that you asked God for help. A few months ago I too asked for help. Silence. Then about three weeks ago I kept receiving a word "Less" and I said I can't DO less, it never works. Two weeks ago I typed 'less' into my browser and your videos popped up. Intermittent Fasting? Never heard of it but it sounded incredibly do-able. I started right away. Two weeks later, I've lot 12 lbs. I have about 90 more to go. But the road ahead feels clear. It's almost effortless. Thanks to both of you for the inspiration! Really, thank you!

I stumbled across both of your videos last week. THANK YOU so much. I find your presentation of information easy to follow and learn. I've started the 0123 format and in 5 days I've lost 4.5 pounds.I am looking forward to an easy to follow, clean eating life style. I too am over 50 and could not seem to get "a grip" on the fast changes going on with my body. The health issues of diabetes and heart disease in my family really make me nervous...so I was "dieting" more....now I see that is never going to be the healthy avenue for me. I've been binge watching all your videos and learning as much as I can. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

This was a wonderful story, thanks so much. So touching. My "clothes moment" was last night. My hillwalking trousers I've had for the last couple of years are Army Surplus, the biggest size they have. I couldn't button them up, so I used the chord to tie them up, and of course my undershirt and army jacket over the top to hide the fact they didn't even come close to closing. I tried them on last night; the trousers button up and without cutting into me. More than that, they can slide off me whilst done up. They're not quite "falling down" yet but it won't be long - so I'll be having to use the belt cord again anyway! (I'm not buying any more clothes until I get down to what I consider will be a more stable and maintainable weight - I've got a solid 20kg to go yet I think).

I love that you gave the story of Jesus as your why you should start and the reason behind your 40 days at a time. I got emotional when you were telling your stories. I can relate. You guys are a beautiful couple. I have been on the weight loss journey a few times and the mental side of it is what always trips me up. I get to the last 10-15 lbs or I get to my lowest weight, and I heard negative self thoughts... you're not going to keep it off, you are going to fail again, people are going to talk about you and call you fat, etc. It is a vicious and cruel cycle. I have really brought Jesus into my weightloss journey this time around and I pray that this time is the final time I battle with my weight. Thank you for this amazing and inspiring video.

I've been on what I call the Matthew 6:26 diet for 2 weeks and I feel great. I eat like a bird: mostly seeds (chia, flax, hemp, sesame, some nuts), greens and other great nonstarchy vegetables. I test positive for ketones throughout the day, and after the initial loss of water weight, the pounds are still coming down. This channels a great resource. I'm glad to hear you emphasizing the benefits of fiber, seeds and vegetables.

Two humble persons. I could relate with this so well. I came here to help stay motivated. At 47 Was close to almost 180 lbs. . None of my so called friends cared to mention anything. My 19 yr old student, quiet young girl told me I needed to exercise because I was getting too fat. I knew that. I had been trying things which I had used and worked in the past. None of these seemed to work anymore. I became so frustrated I almost gave up. I’ve heard about the ketogenic diet before but felt I couldn’t do it since I was a vegetarian at the time. This young girl who hardly speaks would keep telling me I needed to exercise. I understand she wasn’t trying to be mean but she cared enough about me to say something. I started keto May 12th 2018 at 168lbs. By August 10th I was down to 138lbs. I was stuck to the diet did intermittent and omad. I have had lots of comments positive and negative ones. I try to keep positive most of the times and keep setting new health and personal goals.To date I’ve manage to stay at 140 lbs since. I am 5 ft 2 age 49. My new goal is to lose 10 lbs to be at 130 and build some muscles..Waist measurement 31. Goal is to be waist 27 for heart health. Thank you 🙏 for these videos. You have really motivated me and I will continue to motivate and assist others.

You are right, just like a moment that came into your life when you finally decided you got to lose some weight, there comes a moment in everybody's life when an inner voice tells him that now there's the time you start losing weight, until that voice comes from within, we don't think about weight loss and keep on eating stuff.

Dr Becky - I may have already shared this with you but I was eating a whole bag of mini candy bars and watching RU-vid while making VBS decorations. One of your videos came on randomly and then another. I ended up binge watching you. Eventually I threw the candy bars in the trash and said "I'm done". I've lost over 30 lbs. I've been on a plateau since Christmas but I'm super close to my goal. I am still eating pretty clean low carb/Keto. I test my blood regularly and am committed to eating healthy for life. I wouldn't be where I am today had I not seen your videos. Thank you very much for the information and inspiration. Dr Keith....... Dr. Becky should have been your inspiration. You're both fabulous!!

@2 Fit Docs .....To your point about people questioning what you're doing. My eventual weight loss doing keto was 70 lbs in 3 months. as I was nearing this goal an old and dear friend showed up at my door mid morning with a dozen doughnuts. even if I weren't dieting, I live alone! a dozen doughnuts!? I eventually worked through the hurt I felt. I came to realize he didn't understand how his supposed good intentions had been received.

Yes, the clothing is a problem. I got to the point where my clothes were loose and uncomfortable, but I couldn’t fit into the next size down. I got depressed, started my chocolate addiction back up, and now I’m starting to fill out my clothes again! I wish I could be one of those people who could just have one square of dark chocolate each day for health, but I can’t. I’m having a real challenge accepting that I can’t cheat AT ALL. One treat and I’m triggered into bingeing again and can’t stop. I was so happy on keto for months.
@BobbiGail
@BobbiGail 6 лет назад
missmayflower - you are not alone! I also cannot have "just one", constantly explaining to friends that 'everything in moderation' does NOT work for me. I try to fly under the radar, but so many ppl eat the SAD way that they notice when I avoid sugar & carbs, they esp get all freaked out when I avoid fruit! They do NOT have my body & do NOT experience my nearly immediate insulin response... but bc of ppl, i try to stay "closet keto" wo drawing attn to my own choices for health. Chocolate fat bombs can help stave off (or indulge!) a choc craving sometimes, & I have zero guilt... which is beautiful in itself.
@missmayflower
@missmayflower 6 лет назад
BGAIL Yes, the struggle is real. The problem of other people discouraging you is especially acute when you have guests or when you’re staying at their house. I had chocolate keto mug cake and chia pudding for dessert for a while at the beginning, but now even that is a trigger. I just have to get to a place of full acceptance of my limitations and fully commit. At least we have a RU-vid community.

Recently, I've tried one piece of Choc Zero (one carb each piece, sweetened w monkfruit) and some macadamia nuts. Sometimes that is enough to keep from head from obsessing with chocolate. (I've been too lazy to make fat bombs.) Just thot I'd share that tidbit?
@DepDawg
@DepDawg 6 лет назад
I never make fat bombs or baked goods or buy snacks because I cannot trust myself to stop at one portion. I don’t buy anything that resembles a treat. I have chronic pain from a partially paralyzed digestive tract (spinal cord injury at T12) and multiple surgeries plus intestinal adhesions. Two years ago I got off of feeding tubes (7 yrs) not because I can digest better, but I developed a serious complication called a gastrocutaneous fistula and underwent a massive surgery with 15% of my stomach having to be cut out and months of packing inside the wound until it healed. The pain causes cortisol to spike, which then affects my insulin. And that can trigger a binge cycle. Once my gastroenterologist explained that to me, it made sense. So out went 92% chocolate and Lily’s stevia chocolate chips. And I only use coconut flour to make wraps or biscuits for my meals on the go. No mug cakes for me. I can’t do much for the pain and the cortisol, but now I don’t binge or feed the insulin spike. I exercise to reduce my insulin and then I’m steady again. I also do deep breathing and make sure to get quality sleep and avoid stress. It’s a process, for sure. But it’s worth it! Perhaps you have chronic pain or some type of inflammation or infection that is causing excess cortisol as a response. If so, that can explain the urge to binge even when fat adapted. You can then explore healing for the condition and incorporate de-stressing strategies and clear out your pantry of temptations. Push-ups are a great way to burn off excess glycogen and reduce your insulin. I even do them at work 😆 and I don’t care if people think it’s weird. It improves my insulin sensitivity and regulates my blood sugar levels. The urge to snack just disappears and the upside is my body composition is noticeably improving. I’m a 50 year old woman with some serious guns 💪🏼! Praise God for second chances in life when it seems like all hope is lost!

Love this video! I’ve followed you for a while but never saw your “beginning”. Binge watching now. This video is informative and so beneficial to newbies. I’ve gone through most of not all of these issues. My family still thinks I’m going to die because I don’t eat carbs all the while they get sicker and spend $$ on medications which they think is the “cure.” They don’t understand these things are bandaides. They don’t address the root causes. That’s on them and I can’t control what they believe. I just have to endure watching them 😔 So great to see your beginning and how far you’ve both come! 👏🏼 Congratulations 🎊

Words were stuck in my head, I couldn't think of simple nouns, ended up describing my instructions to my kids. Reminded me of WHY I need to do this, HOW it works for me...even if my weight isn't perfect, I need to protect my brain! Hadn't thought of 40 day increments b4. Love that. So glad you did this video. I'm just starting out and have always been heavy. I think of my weight as a way to stay invisible and hide from people (for me personally). I've finally gotten to the point (just turned 50 in June) where it is a health concern as type 2 diabetes is looming. I just wish I could change my body with no one noticing as I'm a very private person. I know I will have to deal with people's questions and comments and I'm not looking forward to that. It was nice to hear your experiences. Love your videos, very helpful and motivating. Thank you for sharing.

I just love you two! Your both amazing and such an inspiration! I am struggling but still not giving up, your videos help! God Bless you both! Becky I have often thought the same thing myself, that if Jesus could go 40 days and I am struggling with not having snacks. I apply that principle to many areas of my life. Just wanted to say what a blessing your stories and videos have become in my life, your videos are often my motivation! Have a blessed day!

Have you tried fat bombs for snacks? Sometimes those help get over a difficult time, PLUS they help fill us up with good fuel. It's a way I've used to get to the point where I didn't even WANT snacks before. Maybe this will help? Hope you find a way that works for you!

Thanks so much for this video. I found it very helpful and inspiring. My wife and I are also on a joint weight loss journey. From what you have shared here and seeing the photos, we have the same sort respective distances to travel as you guys did. My wife is nearly there now and though I've lost 45lb I still have some way to go yet. I feel particularly inspired and encouraged by Keith's story as I'm treading a very similar path and very much looking forward to getting where he is now. It seems so much more possible :-) Our health was a big motivator but like you our faith was too. Our testimony is so important and perhaps more so in this area. I'm a pastor of a church and my wife actually works with those struggling with addiction. Blessings Martin

I'm four months into low carb and three weeks into Keto, with 18:6 fasting. I've lost 45 pounds So far and knowing that we can't 'spot' reduce fat, I'm losing weight around my shoulders to start with. Fasting is addictive.

You two are lucky you’re not my next door neighbors, I’d be over all the time bugging you to share share these stories eerily similar to my own. The need to hear from others undertaking a common journey is paramount in this modern life bombarding us 24/7 with temptations and distractions. My greatest challenge is hearing (or reading) suggestions or advice that cause doubt in my approach, much of which is simply not supported by research. Keep up the good work, this was a much appreciated video.

Whew! Dogged a bullet on the neighbor thing :). Just kidding, it's great having you in our community. And, you're right about the unsubstantiated advice. It's hard to go against erroneous nutritional beliefs, even though many of those long-standing beliefs have lead to the obesity epidemic we are in.

Oh I love this chat, can so relate with the dressing room stories❤ our minds really mess us up. Remembering the feeling of picking that smaller size up but fighting with myself the whole way to the changing room and my face in the mirror when I heard the zip going up........😊❤

Just started watching you guys this morning. Wow I’m so inspired. I started Keto June 11,2018 at 244.5 lbs I’m on my 2 nd week so today is my 10 th day. I am hoping to weigh myself weekly. So far I weighed for the first time on Monday June 18 th, and I’m down to 238 lbs. 61/2 lbs in one week. Thanks for the testing of the different products it helps a lot. I’m so excited to be on the journey with such inspirations like yourself.

I discovered you 2 yesterday and I'm hooked. You're real! I loved your comment about feeling sadness that you had to give up ice cream! 7 years ago I went through a 6mo grieving period giving up sugar, wheat and more, as if I lost a loved one. I didn't know about keto for another couple years cuz I still ate the rice and corn products, but on keto I was able to go to parties and restaurants again and felt such a freedom! Food does not control me anymore! I still suffer from occasional emotional binging, all be it only with nuts cuz I'm strict about what I eat, I need to control quantity to lose my last 20ish pounds that have been stuck for the last 2 years and all my friends saying I like "perfect" cuz the drop in 70 pounds was a big contrast. I will watch your videos to inspire me further!

I love the story about the pants. I took part in a few slimming schemes and one time after a toxic boyfriend got engaged behind my back to another girl and I initially lost some weight just due to stress. I couldn't eat. I felt ill just looking at food. I'd been with him for several years. But then I started feeling better and my weight kept coming off naturally. I stayed up one night til about 3? In the morning, trying on all the stuff I couldn't fit into before. I was exhausted but elated. I'm gonna get that feeling back. I'm 55 but I'm gonna do it. Thank you

I am still binge watching your videos and absolutely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help with losing weight. I am 60 years old with some medical problems like prediabetic as my dr says even though my fbs have been between 115-120. She finally put me on metformin because I was very uncomfortable with those numbers for a few years. A1c was up to 6.9 and I put my foot down. Now since I have studied the keto diet I really think I can reverse all this insulin resistance and get off that medication. Thanks for sharing

Watching this episode especially motivated me to get off the couch and walk 5 feet to get on my stationary bike, so thank you. I must say, tho, that I started exercising again after years of not, and counting calories and fat but in 43 days I've only gone drom 153# to 142#😭😭😭 11 pounds in OVER a month is so frustrating and depressing. I feel defeated. I used to do the Scarsdale and always lost 5# (water) the 1st day, and at least a pound a day thereafter! Granted, I'm 57 now and my life is extremely sedentary because of a back injury, but we're talking eating less than 600 calories on most days and here I am b a r e l y losing weight PLUS, in the 43 days I've only taken 4 days off from biking for 30 minutes/6 miles on my Exerpeutic bike and doing toning exercises! I I could just cry (and often do). My motivation is a November trip to Disneyland with my 2 grown sons, that I've been promising them since they were little. Are there any videos of yours that would help? OH! Almost forgot that as well, for the 43 days, I've been doing intermittent fasting (16/8). I feel like I'm doing everything right, with minimal results.

Thank you for sharing your journey! This is an interesting topic. If you haven't already, perhaps talk some about the hurdles you face outside of food, fasting, and exercise. Basically, WHY you're making poor eating choices, and strategies to overcome them.
