this is exactly the reason why i like watching youtube, what a fantastic idea, when i install my new heater it will have a high quality tv mounting bracket fastened to the back of it
I’m glad the tv wall mount worked for you too. And thank you for the recognition. It wasn’t necessary, but it is appreciated. It’s also great to see others benefit from sharing information and ideas. Wonderful video and thank you for taking the time to share this with all of us. Safe travels.
The TV mount idea is brilliant! I am in the design phase of my build (lots of graph paper) and the heater is a concern. You just resolved that issue for me. THANK YOU!! You guys have helped me several times as I design my van.
OMG, you guys are awesome, even though it wasn't your idea. You showed us how you installed it and how to check for leaks. You helped me decide where to install my fantastic fan in my little cargo trailer. Thank you, and stay warm.
Thank you very much for all the kind words! I still love the idea of making a utility trail into a tiny home or camp trailer. Glad we could help out and we appreciate all the awesome feedback 😀😀😀
It’s good to have someone sharing ALL sides of info like this, pros and cons! For this South Florida boy where our winter weather gear comes out (jeans, socks, shoes) so the idea of heat in general is kinda weird! However one day we may be able to venture north of Tampa where we here the temps can drop below 70! 🤪
😂 That’s too funny! And true! Tonight we are in Cape May New Jersey and heading south in the morning. It’s already warm and humid! We’re going to need tips on how to stay cool without an ac shortly lol
This video was so helpful! So many of yours are. We note you've since gone with a Wabasto heater. It doesn't get much better than that! Thank you so much.
You bet Robert! Glad you found this helpful. We have been camping at 6600 feet and got a bit of snow yesterday! Our Webasto is getting plenty of use. 😀
You are very welcome for the update! We are looking forward to putting it to the test in some serious cold weather...soon as we get to and leave Florida lol Thanks for your kind words, stay safe 😀
Spectacular solution! Why didn’t I think of that...hmmmm...I have an extra tv arm in my rig...who watches tv any more anyways? Lol. I really appreciate how dead honest you are. RU-vid should be populated by more of your type. You are very good teachers 🥇🥇.
Happy to help! Thank you for all the kind words, this kind of feedback helps us keep motivated when times get tough! We want a 1000 more subscribers just like you 😎
Thank you Vincent! We just upgraded to a Webasto heater that connects to the vehicles fuel tank. We did like our wave 6 heater but it couldn’t handle multiple days below zero like our new one does. If you have any questions we would be happy to help. Take care.😃
I appreciate your help and honesty and envy your awesome life You guys look like siblings within your eyes and facial likeness and even your speech patterns obviously living together blends a couple into one being Godspeed
That is indeed genius to use the tv mount! I've been pondering heating possibilities, my rig came with a buddy heater, and I don't much like it. You've added another possibility with this mount. Thanks!
I love your videos. They are always informative, you point out the negatives if there are any, you are safety conscious, you both contribute, you give Roodle a good life, and you have fun!
Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means a lot to us!! When we have tough days comments like this make me smile and appreciate all the support we have. 😀 Take care and be safe
Good morning I resolve the propane tank issue by just having two 20 pound propane tanks one running to my triton hot water on demand and one to my heater rather than trusting the splitter,The soap in the spray bottle also works well for finding a leak in your tires
2 tanks would be awesome. Always have a back up if one goes low would be nice. We already ran dry once and had to drive back to town. Take care and be safe 😀
I had a dog like that. He would bring the ball back to you and bark at you if you didn’t throw the ball right away. You couldn’t wear the little guy out. I like the swing away tv mount idea. Thanks for all the info and especially checking for leaks and a reminder to get a monitor. Happy Camping ⛺️.
Nice! The perks of living in a van and being able to drive away..love it. So far we have not heard anyone that owns a Wave heater say something bad about it. Thanks for the feedback. Stay safe. 😀
Thanks guys great tips. Ever since my hubby had a BBQ accident with propane I have such a fear of it. I’m trying to get over it because it’s so convenient to use for many things camping related. looking forward to seeing your winter adventures. Happy travels and stay safe. 👫🚐🐶❤️
I can understand the fear of propane. Initially we were going to try and go without but it’s just to efficient. We are currently in New Jersey heading south so our winter advantures may start out on the warm side ☀️😀
Another excellent video, well thought out. For the people who are looking for van heaters I would also suggest they look into the Proplex heaters. Thanks for sharing and a 👍
Those Proplex heaters look awesome. They vent outside and run on efficient propane! Love that. Wish we would have seen this during the initial build. Thank you for sharing useful information 😀 Stay safe and take care
It sure was a brilliant idea and worked out perfectly. We have learned so much from people’s comments. Propane scared us also but is simple to efficient. Stay safe and keep warm 😀
You are very welcome 😀 We do like our wave six but would definitely go with a Esbar/Webasco style heater if we could start over. The external venting heaters are the best. Take care and happy travels.
Awesome! All have to check Amazon again...I didn't see it on there the first time I checked. Thank you for following us and commenting. Take care and happy travels to you.
Thank you! We have to play ball with him daily or he lets us know about it 😂 He thinks every time we film it’s Roodle time so we just run with it. We can’t thank Richie Rich enough for sharing, so many people are going to benefit because he took the time to add a useful comment. 😎
Ok I will have to watch the video again if I want to learn about heaters because I’m too busy counting the minutes or seconds before Roodle gets back to your feet with his ball 🎾🐶😊
That is a much better name..Mr Greedy heater, too funny 😂 and if you have to use the little 1lb bottles it’s super costly. Take care and thank you for sharing
The danger with catalytic heaters isn't carbon monoxide. It's oxygen consumption. People asphyxiate because the heater just burns up all of the oxygen in the vehicle. Which is why airflow is so important. So these heaters are SUPER safe as long as you check for leaks.
Awesome heater mount! I have the little buddy heater. Now I'm just suggesting this for others but I bought a squeegee to take care of the huge amount of water on my windows that builds up because of the heater. May have to do the wave or even a Chinese built permanent heater. They are inexpensive and so far from what I hear there are a lot of good reviews on them.
We are just learning about another heater that runs on propane but vents outside called “Proplex” it looks awesome but is expensive. Good luck on your heater choice..stay safe and stay warm 😀
Thank you, We are wondering what size your van is for the wave 3 to be too small. This is great information to share with people starting out.Thank you for watching and safe travels 😎
Do you have a video on the Webasto heater and instal? Also, how loud is the Webasto? Thank you for another informative video,. A little trivia, back in the 80's I had a heater similar to the Wave and an accordion mount in my VW Bus.. Dougal in the Tan 136 Promaster
I'm disappointed to hear that the Wave 6 gives off harmful gases & condensation. Their website claims that these are minimal because it's a chemical reaction with the propane as opposed to igniting the propane. Loved the modification for mounting & propane testing tutorial.
It doesn’t give off poison gasses but it does use up oxygen. All propane heaters will create condensation. The wave heaters are minimal. The Big Buddies are the worst. The important thing as stated in the video is ventilation.
Thank you! We are happy to help. With all the heater choices it’s not easy to choose. We love our heater and can’t wait to put it to a real test on freakishly cold weather. That’s going to have to wait a bit though...we are heading south to Florida now lol 😎
Actually don't have two propane tanks off today or a lot safer the connections are lot safer especially the ones with a plastic big plastic black knobs they're pretty safe today I like the older ones years ago so you can have him in your van I sleep with my heater on all night every night when it's cold no problem whatsoever..
Hate to admit this but we still need to get one. The ones we have seen so far all need hard wired in. We just want a battery one that is not expensive. Since propane sinks we will mount it as low as possible.
I haven't looked at the propane models but I know on electric space-heaters, there is a safety device on the bottom that turns the unit off if it is knocked over. Is there something like that on propane units, maybe some kind of mercury switch? Otherwise, they have to be on the floor, right? Or is there a button on the back that gets pushed in when mounted to a wall or board in the case of the TV wall mount with the swing-out arm?
The wave 6 has a built in shut off valve and the Buddy heaters have a tip over shut down and 02 shut off built in. The Wave 6 we have are recommended for RV use. I think most of the propane heaters are. Our heater is made for wall mount or free stand. Pretty nice having it mounted on the wall, we love it. 😀
That was a really innovative solution using the tv mount. As far a installing a Webasto heater yourself, go over to the Foresty Forest Channel. He put the diesel tank inside his van to make the install cheap & DIY.
We installed a Webasto heater in our Promaster this last august.....LOVE IT! Promaster has made it really easy to tap directly into the fuel tank! We love Foresty Forest and I like his solution as well!!
Why don't you use the Wave 6 while you sleep? I thought that was the whole point of these heaters. I've slept in the cold in a van that was pre heated by the engine. That heat disappears pretty quickly, and even with using blankets, I had to get up several times through the night to start the engine and warm it back up.
You bet Hoss. We recently updated to a Webasto heater that plumbs into our fuel tank. We love this set up even better. We can now comfortably go as low as 10 below zero and still be comfortable. Good luck and stay safe. 😎
No video but we just attached wood to the tv mount then used screws to mount the heater. Currently we have upgraded to a Webasto dry air heater. We love it! 😀
Thanks again, another good video. Now, how do you cool down the van, deal with heat issues, when it is sunny and hot? Thanks, keep enjoying your travels.
Very welcome! Cooling down is much more of a challenge. Lots of ventilations and reflectics on the inside and outside of windows help some. We usually end up driving up to higher elevations. 😀 Good luck and happy travels.
The basic starter rules for cooling down are park under a tree or some other shade, cover your windshield with a sun visor, crack some windows, and plug a fan into a solar generator.
We used a tv wall mount that extends for our wave 6 heater, but didn't know they made one that locks. That is useful information and we appreciate you sharing for the community! Thank you very much 😀
@@oneadVANtureatatime That is the East Quoddy lighthouse . It is located on Campobello Island Canada right across the bridge from Lubec Maine . One of my favorite lighthouses to photograph. When the tide goes out you can climb down the latter and cross over to the lighthouse, fun but a little dangerous.
I just finally found this lighthouse on google maps. It looks awesome! Next time we are in that area we’re going! We went to West Quoddy head but that looks more remote and off the beaten path, just the kind of place we would love. Thank you for sharing 😀
We have upgraded to a Webasto heater now. The wave six did well with little condensation as long as we cracked open two windows for air to move through the van.
Hey yall, now that you have the webasto/gasoline heater…do you think it is superior to the Wave? If yes, could you do a pros and cons here in the comments or a vid? Thank you!
That sure is an electric bike! It’s made by “lectric” and it folds down pretty small. It’s goes 28 miles an hour and up to 40 miles on one charge! We just need more sunny days so we can keep charging the battery and ride it more. Super fun toy Dan! And a good back up if we get stuck in the boondocks 😎
Thank you! We just watched you van lifers in another video from Heather and Curtis. Looks like you two had fun wish we could have been there to see you. Miss you two. Stay safe 😎
If I remember correctly it is 3 inches on the sides and 2 ft above it. Honestly I would go onto their website to see the proper space needed. It is important that you vent properly when using this heater. We went through 3 heaters: little buddy, wave 6, and webasto. It is no contest......webasto wins hands down. I know the cost is a huge concern but if we were to do it all over again and we could not afford the webasto heater we would order the chinese version. hope this helps.
Hello,if i just open the maxxair lid without kick in the fan on,will the amount of fresh air for ventilation will be enough to keep me safe over night? Thanks
+skokomurliak not according to the info I found online. It was pretty specific about ventilation at opposite ends. Unless it was really cold we did not use are heater at night... we just through on extra blankets and used the heater during hours that we were awake with ventilation. I encourage you to do your own research and check out your heaters instruction manual and most importantly BE SAFE😄

Thank you for taking the time to share all that information! Some of that information is way over my head 🧐 Our passion lines more up with travel and exploring. Someone more inclined to invent and create things that make life more comfortable should run with this idea. We appreciate you sharing your know-how and wish you the best. Happy and safe travels 😎
Hi y'all. Love watching you channel. However, you should stand closer to your microphone. I could barely hear you with all my volumes turned to maximum. Happy trails.
Does anyone know about those little square ceramic heaters? I have a friend who uses 2 of them in a 5th wheel. He uses shore power. I wonder how much they pull if you're on solar power. Thank you.
Yes I research those when we were doing the build. So glad we didn't get one because we are maxed out on power with our slim battery bank. We learned that Proplex makes an outside vented propane heater that looks amazing. People that have the Webasto heater can't say enough good things but either of those are expensive. We really do love our Wave six. It's a bit large and ugly but is cheap warming heat that my wife loves. Any kind of electric heater takes a pretty healthy(expensive) battery set up. Keep the ideas and questions coming, we enjoy trying to help as many people as we can. Take care 😄
+Viking Van Man our wave 6 did a good job... Best propane heater out there in our opinion! Great if you are going to be in mild temps!!!! BUT no comparison to this webasto heater!!!! We find ourselves in much colder temps quite often😃
You have such a nice van that you have poured a lot of money into. I sort of would get it if winter weather was something occasionally experienced. But you said you do a lot of winter. Why you don't do a Espar, Webasto, or their knock offs. Or a Propex. Is perplexing. I'm anti ventless all the way. You are injecting water directly into your living space. You are breathing the by products of combustion. And everyone is worried about lethal CO.... But you will probably find small doses under 10ppm. Not good at all but not deadly.
Good question. We were looking for ways to save money during the build and it looked like the buddy heater was the cheap solution. It took us the first winter to realize we needed a better heater. Now that we are full time on the road we don’t have the money to get one of those heaters. I do like the Proplex but it’s 800 dollars. We are loving the wave 6 now. That said, if we could do the build over we would prioritized the heater. Hope that helps
+Wojtek Em no, we have ungraded to the webasto stc 2000. Game changer! We didn’t like the fact that you have to vent to use the wave 6 and it used a fair amount of propane.
Don't forget to keep your wave heaters covered up when you're not using them they don't like dust or dirt in them they don't like to work properly then... The smaller ones will actually use a large shower cap will cover them the bigger one you can either buy the covers they already have for them or make your own with a vinyl tablecloths and elastic bands or strap. Although it goes without saying don't put it on the wave heaters until they're cool down lol
Love the advice on making our own cover out of a vinyl tablecloths! That’s what we will do, thank you so much for sharing. Have a great day and happy travels 😀
@@oneadVANtureatatime Your welcome glad I could help, I like certain holidays so I would probly make up ones that I could change out for the holidays give a little festivity.. or seasons
@@oneadVANtureatatime Yes I was an expeditor I lived in a 3500 extended Chevy cargo Van for 7 years.. Of course I only had the driver's area and about 4' behind the driver's seat in living space.. Because the other 8' was for 2 pallets of freight When I was under a load.. But I used a small wave heater back then and I used to decorate the inside with lights for holidays That was the beginning of my love for battery operated twinkle lights..and of course a silly as I was I had one of those reindeer kits for a car with the nose on the grill and antlers on the doors.. And and during Halloween I had a skeleton on the front. A wreath at Christmas time Or a rabbit during Easter time.. But I used to change the cover on the wave heater and Different curtains from my window liners.. I had the decorate a tiny bit it was my home.. Lol.. Blessed Be and Be safe
