Putting The Wave 6 Heater to the test in EXTREME temperatures

We had the perfect opportunity to test the limits of our new Wave 6 Heater. Will it get the job done during extreme temperatures? While visiting the Grand Canyon we experience -2F/-18C temps!! Will we stay warm? What is the proper ventilation to safely use a indoor propane heater all night..... you might be surprised.

I've been doing my research on the wave heaters for my tiny house. The use of the adjustable tv wall mount is nothing short of brilliant!
@oneadVANtureatatime
@oneadVANtureatatime 3 года назад
+BearClawAK47 it really was brilliant!!! A little tricky to get the fittings hooked up so close to the counter.... I feel like I must tell you that we have since upgraded to a webasto heater and it is a game changer!!! If you are going to be in cold temps and you can afford it ....... BUY IT! Wave heaters would be our 2nd choice!

I have used a six for ever and a 3 before that. 20 yrs. I use about a third the ventilation. I would close ceiling fan completely and crack window 1/4 inch at most. That’s it. Leave campo 6 on high. In the morning 65 degrees. Yes, 4 inches off floor is best and just across from where you hang out. GT. Much better than diesel. 1/4 fuel cost. Buy 2 worthington 2 1/2 gal tanks. Aluminum. Installation from 10 minutes to an hour.

good info. Glad it worked well 50's is just fine when its sub zero outside! I have the same window vents, they really do work well for air flow. I know you don't generally do campground stays, but if you are some where with an electrical hookup, the cord slides very nicely in the corner between the window and the vent.

I’ve been using the Wave 3 in my van with the drivers window open 1” and am not afraid to run it overnight. The Wave 3 is too small and my back-up Mr Heater Little Buddy died this AM so I just ordered a Wave 6. In the meantime I am using a Coleman propane burner to supplement the Wave 3 but I open the roof vent a small amount in addition to the driver window. I’ve been using the stove for heat for several years and am very excited about the Olympian heaters. The Wave 3 works great and along with the Wave 6 I’ll be warm and safe in any weather.

Thanks for your great vids! I use a wave-6 heater often. I also use a large floor fan to push the rising heat down to the floor area and it circulates and mixes the air nicely. I got rid of the floor mount and it is suspended by bungees above the heater which is also suspended by bungees three and a half feet off the floor pointed towards my bed. I use extremely strong 20 lb magnets to hold everything. A typical 5lb BBQ size propane tank will last 5 or 6 days if used 24/7 on low. I purchased a double size 10 pounder propane tank & recommend the same or bigger, however, bigger gets a bit heavy to carry. Lastly, this is a catalytic heater. This means there are much less fumes with this combustion. I am still here after 4 winters of use to tell the tale of not being dead after not proper ventilation, too many times. If you want the safest heater out there this is it. And it comes in three sizes: Wave 3, Wave 6, & Wave 8.

My Wave 6 has served me well. Started with a Mr Buddy Heater but it overwhelmed the living space. It put out too much heat too fast. Be mindful that if snow is forecasted the roof top vent could become covered in snow. Blocking air flow. A heated mattress pad has also worked well. Since it’s duty cycle isn’t 100%, it just sips power thoughout the night.

@@oneadVANtureatatime ours came with a 10L tank. We had to get that type because the Promaster uses gas. If we had a Sprinter, than we'd have gotten the one that connects to the vehicles tank. Great information. Also, good informative interaction in your comments. Not a fan of the little buddy heaters. Nice to see review on the wave but trying to get away from propane heat due to moisture. I especially like how you mounted it. Personally, I'm not one for leaving any heat source on while sleeping. Stay almost too warm in bed with two cats under the covers with me, LOL, and the rig warms up super fast in the morning. My dog has a profuse double coat and I've lined his crate with a wool blanket so he stays toasty warm. Might have to take a look at a diesel heater, though. However, what I REALLY want is a tiny wood stove. One will fit perfectly inside a centrally located clothing closet. I have other options for the clothes. Just need to remove the closet door and line the closet with insulation and sheet metal. My nephew said he can help with installation as putting in the stove pipe would be difficult for me. Truck campers also have condensation issues, particularly up in the overhead bed area, so dry wood heat would be ideal. Thanks for another great video. Wish I'd found your channel sooner. PS: love that window insert.

_Okay, I'm going to make your life a lot warmer and safer, plus gain back your countertop there. I install diesel air heater in all kinds of trailers and vans, plus many more things, it's a game-changer. For your van thinking a 3Kw would do. About $130.00 on up to $300.00 that price is for everything you need in a kit. You can find them on Amazon or __Walmart.com__ they come with many different configurations and a little bit confusing with the controllers though. But once you understand the system, you'll love it. 10L or 15L tanks will run about 23 to almost 40 hours per tank. so all depends on how you set up the pumps. If have any questions please ask, I help you out, and we'll keep it open to all here, that way everyone can get the information too! Besides, the dog can lay right in front of the vent(s) on the floor if he likes. You wouldn't smell burnt hair. : )_

Wave 3 only has one mounting position (vertical).. the wave 6 and wave 8 can be mounted vertically and horizontally... I have a wave 3 and a wave 6... Bought wave 3 fir my 21ft class B plus... Wave 6 for the living area of my 35 foot class A( I use a 500 watt electric space heater in the bedroom of the class A.. These heaters are phenomenal.. if you cover all your windows with insulation like block out curtains or reflectix. And partitioning the front cab area with a block out curtains to decrease the square foot area being heated. these heaters work well into the 15F keeping the heated area warm I the 60-65F.. which is very comfortable especially with. Heated mattress pad or heated blanket.. The key is ventilation .. open your roof vent by 1/4" and your lowest side vent wind by 1/4".. this will avoid condensation and carbon monoxide risks.. along with a propane detector and carbon monoxide detector ... I have not needed to use the factory I stalled propane furnaces since going with the wave heaters.. I am also going to supplement with a planar or webasto heater if I advanture into colder weather...

Hi Heather! i will warn you they are a little pricey. We have also learned that you really need to pay attention when you are installing. It is easy to not get window in the narrow track and it might cause damage. I think we put a hair line crack in the driver side window. It is very minor but we think this is what caused it. @@StacyForest738 Look up electric mattress pads on amazon or ebay. They use less power than an electric blanket. They fit between the matrass and the bottom sheet. Also, a Chinese diesel air heater should work well. The cheap ones are noisy. There are better products out there which are supposedly near Webasto quality, yet at a more affordable price point. Look up VVKB heaters from China, or Planar heaters from Russia. The Russian one is quite popular in Europe.
