Out Of Africa (35th Anniversary) | Robert Redford and Meryl Streep Own a Coffee Farm in Kenya 

Out of Africa, Chariots of Fire, and Gandhi were three of the 80's finest films. They encapsulate a time that's long gone and now even the 80's has an aura of romantic distance.

When Robert Redford is pouring the water to rinse her hair, for that moment her face is more beautiful than anyone else in the world. 😍

About four years ago we visited Karen Blixen's house in Denmark. There you can see the room where she did her writing, the gifts given to her by her staff in Kenya, and her grave. She is buried in the garden of her house.

This was the best film I've ever watched.

This film fueled my passion for travel. I will be traveling to Kenya next year and hope to visit as many sites associated with Karen Blixen (both in real life and in the movie) as I possibly can.

Her wedding outfit,just gorgeous 😍 The costumes in this movie were all stunning!

It was done beautifully. The scenes were incredible. And the cast sublime. Redford was natural and charming. Such a fantastic actor.

The excellent Michael Kitching as Barkley Cole at the end - debonair, relaxed, a gentleman and a bit of a flirt 😊 A sad sub-plot for his story through the film.

I have alwayyys loooved this movie, watched it in 1985 when I was heartbroken because of a love I could not live. Meryl Streep has been my favourite actress ever since, also being proud of "Bror" Klaus-Maria Brandauer, as my countryman. The bitter-sweet love between Karen and Denys is hopeless as they are so different; yet, one hopes against all odds. Such a brave woman. Only one hour before the wedding and no wedding ring, and she is forced to think of the man who she has just met and who entrusted her with his ivory. This is fate. He makes her happy and desperate beyond all imagination. I will always charish this movie, its profound questions of love, passion and life.

It’s such a shame they don’t make movies like this anymore, never come away from the movies thinking wow

I always loved this movie too . Meryl's portrayal of isek densen is great as usual , as she has portrayed other characters so well. Believe this is my favorite Meryl Streep movie.

Is there a 35th Anniversary edition? The above looks much more crisp than anything out there on blu ray! (which dates back to when it was remastered in 2012 for the 100th Anniversary of Universal).

While the 13th Earl was the third son of 10th Earl of Winchilsea, famous for his duel with Duke of Wellington. Denys's brother was 14th Earl of Winchilsea, he had married the wealthiest American heiress of the season, her grandfather Drexel founded a little company called J.P Morgan with J.P Morgan, Denys's niece married the eldest son of one of the wealthiest American heiress that came from prominent American old money who invented gin production, while Denys's nephew married daughter of the richest Vanderbilt heiress worth almost 1 billion today (back then she would be one of the richest person in the world) The family had quite an interesting relations to black history: 1. Finch-Hatton, the Hatton name came from the cousin and heir of the famous Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I, long story short the hatton descendant was 1st Viscount Hatton, when the gunpowder in the castle exploded, his black slave/servant went in the rubble to save him and his children, later he was freed and given generous pension and some land, one of the children saved was the only one with offspring, Anne Hatton, she married Daniel Finch Earl of Winchilsea, her younger Finch son inherited the Hatton properties and assumed the name Finch-Hatton, then his line inherited the Earl of Winchilsea title. 2. Lady Elizabeth Murray, mother of George Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchilsea, was actually the great niece of 1st Earl of Mansfield and cousin to half black Dido Belle, Lord Mansfield made a landmark judgment regarding the slave trade, and seen as the first step towards abolitionist. There was a famous painting of her and her half black cousin. extra: Denys was related to a little bit of Danish history, Lady Elizabeth Murray's mother was a German Saxon Imperial Countess, granddaughter of the Lord Chancellor of Saxony, her first husband died young and left her his three Danish estates (they had no children), then she remarried to Murray and sold the three Danish estate after her marriage (because her future was set on England, but she died young in Vienna)

Turned my stomach to see Finchatten loading those elephant tusks (even if they weren't real)! I probably didn't notice it when I originally saw the film and I bet directors would not use that scene today (thankfully). Poor elephants!

After experiencing this film in a theatre, returned to my car in the parking lot, and wept. And now, listening to tones of those voices, music and observing especially, rich interior of the Muthaiga Club..where Izak Dineson was initially ushered to a hall, and later, after all, was stood a whiskey, a sense of poignancy, reverie and longing returns.

The only thing here is that Streep does not do a very good Danish person speaking English. And the Austrian guy sounds Austrian. To be fair, it's a very hard and and the differences might not code well with an English audience

I can name a few in different fields of endeavor: Education- Booker T Washington; Movies- Sidney Poitier; Entertainment,-Whitney Houston;; Beauty pageant- Zuzibini Tunzi- Ms Univ 2019; Sports- Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali; Politics- Barack Obama, US Pres. There are so many more.

He steals her money and does business that was bound to fail. Talk of undermining women. And still goes on. She wanted to educated Kenyan children and they make her baren. And Africa chief gives her instructions and not to educate the children to certain age. The world has not moved on ever since. Sad!
