Today we review the new Out on a Limb podium saddle hunting platform, and then compare it to the Tethrd predator platform. If your looking for an ultra light hunting setup these platforms are both amazing options!
Let's clear this up. No you can not. No deer stand is as mobile and silent as a saddle/platform combo. I should know. I own dozens of hang ons and climbers. No hang on manufacturer sells a custom fabricated T6 aluminum base that weighs only 3lbs. You can make something similar, but it won't be as light or as strong unless you have friends willing to give you materials or services for free. I agree 180 is overpriced, but to be fair if you've never used one you have no idea what you're missing or what it's worth
@@m4nap4rt20 look at the XOP vanish. its cast aluminum and high quality. whole stand cost $179. Now look at the tethered and look what you get in comparison. it cost the same but you are just getting a platform about the same size of the seat on the XOP Vanish. the price on these is outrageous
@@byronbrush9030 but I can't use the XOP as a saddle platform? It's not as ideal as the predator either, even I were to construct everything needed to use it in such a way? And I dont know what their per unit cost is, but I'd be willing to bet that it's higher than XOP's as they're newer to market and doing a lower volume. Still, I'm not saying it isn't priced too high. It is. I am saying that you can't fairly compare the price/usefulness of a platform to a hang on. Saddle hunting is blowing up, in case you haven't noticed. Predators are already on backorder. To some extent the market sets the price, so it's tough to blame Tethrd. Look at the cost of the Lone Wolf Custom stand, or the hunting beast sticks which offer almost no advantage over Muddy Aerolites. This stuff is marketed to hard-core hunters who'll pay the price asked. And they'd be the fool to charge any less for it. Lots of these guys' saddles will be collecting dust next season and they'll be back to hang ons and ladder stands. It's not for everyone, but the fact you can buy an ok hang-on for the same price as a platform isn't really all that relevant.
Hopefully saddle hunting becomes popular enough for some large-scale production companies to start making platforms. These should cost a customer $40-50 for a quality platform based on the materials and work required to produce, not $140 to $180.
Try to design one make sure it is engendered to the highest of specifications and get them produced for that price. A lot of time went into them witch is not cheap and connections to get them produced
What's up fellas. I like this review, I actually use the platform to my lone wolf climber a lot just because of the room, but it's too big for some places, so I might look into this one. Also, this past year I sold my tethrd phantom saddle and got a Tx5 Lonestar, it's not even close on comfort and weight between the 2 saddles. TX5 knocked it out the park. I've sat in a lot of saddles, cruzr is comfortable and buzzard roost might be the most comfortable, but TX5 made the the perfect saddle in all areas to me- lightweight, comfortable, well constructed, easy to use.........
I’m going to make my own I work in a fab shop !! That might be 25 dollars for the metal it would only take 10 minutes to weld it up 5 to 10 bucks for the strap
Omg this platform is awesome!! And after you talking about the boot squeak and them fixing that problem before sending out to me is fantastic. The coating they now applied is the cat's meow!!! Easy to cam over and the large platform is great. It came in the mail in a box and thought man they sent me something wrong. Thought there was no way my platform is in that box because how light it was. Not going to lie I was getting mad thinking they screwed up my order till I opened it and the platform was in there. Was blown away how light it was.
@@wvbowhunter5007 I got the out on a limb podium platform. Lighter and bigger. I love this one. Lighter, bigger, cheaper and just as easy to hang. No brainer. They even coated it to stop the boot noise. Can't be anymore happy. You will be too
Great video. Did notice alot more sring up and down on the podium. And you kind of seemed more comfortable standing and talking on the predator. That thing didnt move when u were on it at all. Again awesome video cant wait to see the perch comparison
Yikes, that squeek from the Podium is an instant deal braker, man. I imagine a saddle hunter is going to want the opportunity to get in as close as humanly possible, and that squeek is enough to blow a hunt. Thanks for the review!
Great video! Thanks for showing the comparison between the two. I am looking to switch to saddle hunting this year. I am really interested in the wild edge stepped ladder and using those as my platform for the cost effectiveness. These platforms are nice, but pricey.....😀
@@jacobmyers3149 I like the idea of it but it would take more than that for me to switch from my predator to the podium. I do like the wideness of it. To me that is a great feature.
Ok buying a platform today! I can get the predator for $167 to my door, the podium is like $175 to my door , wanted a ridge runner but not payin $190 for it !
Platforms designed for use with hunting saddles will rarely hold your total weight. A lot of your body weight will be distributed into your tether and hunting saddle. Unless you would rather stand straight up on the platform, I don’t believe this should be a legitimate concern. Your tether and/or other safety harness and fall arrest gear is what needs to be your number 1 safety item.
I gotta tell ya, those welds on the Out On A Limb look suspect at best. I'd think anyone sending out a product like that would have made better looking welds.
The give in each platform as you transition your weight from one to the other is enough to show which is superior. Predator does not budge. Predator OP.
Those welds on the podium look like inexperience. And im an experienced welder of many years. Id be tig welding that instead of mig. But overall i like the size better then the predator. But the predator looks A LOT more solid.
@@usernamehere6061 no they aren't. they are more mobile, ya, but they aren't better than a whole tree stand. for one, this platform is just that, it's JUST a teeny platform. it ain't getting you up a tree. you still need to add a saddle as well.
Own em both. Tethrd Pred is far better. The sharp sides and corners make in-tree maneuverability easier. In really cold weather the Out on a Limb creaks and pops, the Predator does not. Plus the predator is easily silenced by wrapping paracord around the edges, which makes them super quiet. Just my $0.02. Go with the Predator platform...
Paul Crave traction is absolutely not an issue especially when going around the tree. I guarantee you will not believe me when I say that the Podium had better traction when wet than the Predator did when wet. You’ve got more surface area on the edge of the podium than the Predator which help a ton with traction. Not saying anyone platform is better Han the other but that’s our resolutes from testing.
Does the podium not adjust to the lean of the tree like the predator? Trees don't grow straight up too often in this part of the country. The other thing to mention is that I have ladder stands that use that mesh, and the welds on the mesh itself can crack and split apart if too much weight is centered on one spot.
The Podium looked very wobbly when he shifted his weight. While he put side pressure on it it was very sta bbn le looking though. I never saw him demonstrate the Predator's function with side pressure like he did with the Podium. I also didn't catch his demonstration of attatching the Predator to a tree. How about traction on the Predator with out the modification that the Podium would need to be "quiet". The Predator seemed "locked" stiff against the tree when he moves from the Podium to the Predator.
The reason all this saddle stuff is so expensive is that everyone and his brother are into it , and also they take advantage of this china virus shit . Every place you go there is a waiting list to get something , none of this stuff is mass produced . Once the mfg all figure out how to let a China man make this stuff and you can go in acadamy or bass pro and pick up what you need the prices and quality will drop , but for now we have to deal with the high ass price of something because these guys old lady's are sewing the saddles one at a time and some buddy of there's is making the platforms in their shop . It is what it is , if you want it pay for it if not make it yourself if you got the means or just stick with the old hang on .
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen but are they really? many things are labelled to make one believe that nowadays. i could see these being so though, as they probably aren't selling millions of them. but, like everything, as their sales go up, they'll want to cut costs even more, and that usually then results in made in china.
