I remember playing Fireteam on the beta! I loved the mode, but I think they put it in the “party” category, so most players won’t even see it. It’s a shame they didn’t put that in the MW games, I thought it was a great blend between warzone and multiplayer.
I want an alternative to the core zombies experience. Since CoD can’t seem to get it right for me anymore, I wish there were indie projects that could do it right. I know there are things like Killing Floor but there’s nothing that just gives me the same casual fun of Black Ops zombies
I’d imagine it’s only a matter of time. It seems like coop games made by indie/smaller developers are getting more and more popular, like Lethal Company and Helldivers 2
@@theGODZILLA150 Yeah, I would hope so. It’s very odd to me that no one has really tried yet, other than some poor imitations on things like Roblox and Gmod. Maybe because of BO3 workshop tools, or maybe because there’s just not demand for it
The exploration aspect is something I fully agree on. I'm not much of an explorer in video games. I'm much more objective oriented. I like planning and preparing to complete objectives as efficiently as possible. So you'd think that Outbreak highlighting where the main objective is, where the important side objectives are and notifying you on what the objective is I would like Outbreak's more direct approach, but I don't. I feel like Outbreak is in this weird middle ground where it's too afraid to be ambiguous and give players reasons to explore, but also not fast paced enough for objective oriented players to find it engaging. Sure, I can go from objective to objective in succession because I know where they are, but in-between you have loading screens, boring traversal and few obstacles which makes you aware of how repetitive the mode gets. I'd take a "Gauntlet" type of mode over Outbreak because of this. Shaping the mode to be more like an open world (like they advertised) to cater to explorers wouldn't be my type of mode either, but at least it would satisfy said explorers. They should have honed in on one player archetype as their demographic rather than failing to satisfy two archetypes.
Looking at where Call of Duty zombies was coming from at the time (nothing but round based maps) outbreak was Treyarch taking a huge risk creating something like that and I think it was extremely successful. Obviously it has its flaws but considering it was the first game mode of that style by Call of Duty, it makes a lot sense why the mode is the way it is. I think they were going for something similar enough to what we had before but not too different so that it was not unrecognizable
Based that you're getting into ROR2, i love the game And yeah its basically an roguelike with extraction shooter elements, it fixes all the tiny BS outbreak did wrong and i love it
Alternate modes in general need to be worked on if they want to emphasize new/refreshing ways to play Zombies. First off, bring back Grief, lol. I think things like ROR2, or even things like Helldivers and Musou games would be a good template for if they want to do larger, more open maps - ROR2 for exploration and an actual difficulty curve, then Helldivers/Musous if they want to focus on high action and killing ridiculously large groups of zombies. If they wanted to crimp from other zombie game franchises, I think Left 4 Dead, Deadrising, and Resident Evil would be the best choices. The exfil system in Cold War already feels similar to the concept of escaping in Left 4 Dead, and it would be neat to get an ACTUAL zombies campaign rather than Nightmares. As for Deadrising, this ties with the Musou concept of plowing through huge groups of zombies, maybe some kind of challenge format where you have to see how fast you can clear an incredibly large horde? Then with Resident Evil, it would be neat to see a more survival horror take on Zombies wherein you have limited ammo, weak weapons, less zombies around but they each individually feel more like a threat. Genuine puzzles would be an interesting extension of the concept of map quests!
Haven’t played Risk of Rain 2, but I loved the first game. It’s super weird seeing it made the jump to 3d, but it still looks fun as hell. I *love* the monster design in those games
