With Kevin having very recently releasing a majority of his Zombies songs that were previously left off music platforms, it gives me hope that he still has a good relationship with Zombies and will be back sooner rather than later.
After firebase z was released, Kevin said that is not that hes no longer a treyarch, but rather there is a lack of time (and budget i would guess lol) and how it's hard to both make a song and also compose the soundtrack of the map, which with each new zombies game/map, there are a lot more of audio design compared to the old days of waw-bo1
I miss whe. Pack a punching would sometimes give your gun a new ability, like the g11 and m16 getting full auto, 1911 getting duel weild explosives, or underbarrel attachments like the m16, even though it sucked
I 100% agree with you man. The care and attention to detail of the older games was much more memorable and awesome. Things like the Map Specific HUD and Round Changes matching up with the music were examples that showed how much care Treyarch put into Zombies. They really cared about the little details.
If I'm not wrong, Kevin couldn't work on Cold War past Firebase Z due to time constraints and being busy with other projects. If he's not back for MWZ, he'll probably be back for Treyarch's next game in 2024.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t do anything for MWZ, but I sure hope he’s back for the next Treyarch game. These maps just don’t quite feel complete without one of his songs
Back in black ops 1, the raygun crosshair was under the metal bracket thing, in black ops 2 and onwards, its been placed above it. That's my little niche thing that I miss
I miss alternate game modes, primarily Grief. Breaking the traditional player count, the PvPvE style, the ways you could choose to work with or against the other team... I felt Cold War had the perfect setup for it with Requiem vs. Omega, but they just didn't do anything like that. I would've even liked it in the Outbreak maps where the teams are trying to complete objectives faster and maybe racing to escape.
there's something so gripping about classic zombies that really gets me. When I think zombies I think bo1 ray gun with the pap camo by the first lander on ascension, the mule kick area on moon, or the ak74u training spot on call of the dead. Crazy thing is I didn't have any of those dlc as a kid because my older brothers would rather buy new games like mw3 and bo2 instead.
2 major things I miss about the classic Zombies (WaW/BO1) is the overall creepy atmosphere, it along with the 2 hit down system always made the first couple rounds pretty scary and I also miss how grounded the story was, it linked a lot of real world conspiracies like the Illuminati and secret bases on the moon etc, sure there was time travel and hints of other dimensions but it was never too over the top, for lack of a better term it was "realistic" in how everything was portrayed, the story now is too fantastical to me imo
The only other games I've seen that have music that ties into the lore are from fighting games, namely Guilty Gear and Killer Instinct. Coincidentally, both of those games also have mostly metal soundtracks.
I always loved the stylistic choices of the previous CoDs. Especially the PaP random attachments, it made you really wanna pack every gun just to see what it'd do to the zombies. Made the game more exciting.
5:16 the fighting game franchise guilty gear also does this with each game and now starting with strive each character has their own well thought vocal theme about the characters’ lore
I do really miss the music, always reminded me of devil may cry and some others where the music related to your game as opposed to the song just being a song.
While I think gameplay wise having the ability to add attachments to weapons is better for gameplay purposes and replay value but PAP attachments were so fun and make guns feel more unique
To be honest I forgot half of these things that were out and I miss them and I want them just like you. I wish there was custom mutations and then 2024 so we can have options like these
A little late but if you are looking for other games that have music based on the narrtives inside them, I would recommend checking out FF14's OST, specifically the raid music. A lot of the music in general tends to use leit motifs to help pull the narrative together, and the trial/raid music with lyrics is often singing about the narrative or from the perspective of the boss itself. A few notable examples; -Scream, its sung by the raid bosses themselves, acting as though you are prey wondering into their den, stalked and soon to be hunted. -Give it All is about the raid bosses struggle to live, giving up on who she was entirely in her fight to cure what is killing her. -Return to Oblivion (personal favorite) being a mix of leit motifs and of how the boss is struggling with their past, weight of all that rests on their shoulders, and trying desperately not to fall under the influence of what has become of her and failing. There are a ton of others as well, but ya.
could not agree with you more man. me and my friend are always playing differing zombies maps and it really shows. he loves spending 45 minutes trying to setup stuff for round 8 on bo3, i love to play WaW, Bo1, and Bo2 maps but i can’t stand the staleness of bo3 and beyond it makes me sad. and the way that the zombies just poof and explode or fall to the ground is so sad to see, black ops 1 had perfect balance between gore and gameplay being simple and fun opposed to the new “collect everything” type of gameplay. loved the details you added to your video tho especially on things like the tally marks going away quicker and such. this video felt like my brain trying to rationalize to my friend in the best way possible! excellent video man
5:05 Speaking of Kevin, all of his songs and other soundtracks throughout zombies are recently uploaded(2 days ago) to various music platforms! Awesome!!
I completely agree with the round-changing system in bo3. Every single zombies player can tell you how they felt when they first saw the rounds change from tally marks to the number 11. It felt like you were making huge progress. Getting the number 6 just isn't as impactful, and it's much more likely that a new player can get there on their first couple of attempts. Also agree that the round should change with the music, like, there was no practical motive to make that change
Never noticed the zombies talking before being decimated by a monkey bomb! Just like in your videos, the attention to detail in early zombies was what made it truly special 🤌🏽
I miss cool PaP'd gun names, seems like ever since BO2 they've gotten more and more formulaic over time but it's something WaW/BO1 did to great effect.
I agree with most of these. However, I like the BO3 attachments system and I really like the BO3 3 hit down. Anything more is crazy, but anything less… well I wasn’t very good at zombies so maybe that’s why
I love the previous cods a lot especially WaW Zombies. I literally played it from October 25th, 2021 until September 7, 2022 every day because the game captivated me that much. The game has such a unique atmosphere that can only be found in World at War. I wish I could have been mature enough to share the experiences with everyone who is now older, but I’m glad that despite being part of a shitty generation full of shitty apathetic people, I found a legendary game that got me through covid lol
I also miss when everyone started off with just a pistol and had to work their way to the better weapons, be it from the wall or box. Spawning in with whatever weapon you want in CW doesn't work in zombies IMO as it really ruins the threat of early rounds. Without starting barebones it just makes getting to higher rounds more of a slog
Call me soft but I am happy they never went back to the classic two-hit downs. It makes those early rounds on solo a little bit more fair especially considering the BO1 & BO2 zombies could double hit you when you knifed them then your whole run would be over
I miss the idea of it , playing whit some friends afthe school or some cousins in a wekend But not the truth of it , the decline afther black ops 3 , there was no future on that
What do you mean by limited weapons on maps? I didn't notice a change to how weapons worked and am not sure what you mean here. Also what I miss most is how cryptic easter eggs used to be. Main Easter Eggs especially, but as the mode got more popular and racing to find them became more of the point of the mode instead of hidden secrets, we've gotten to a weird place where we are still calling them "easter eggs" even though games are just... telling you what to do outright.
It’s about how some guns weren’t available in Zombies, like how the AK-47 wasn’t in Black Ops 1. They probably did this to make sure each weapon was unique. But after Black Ops 3, they started putting every single gun into Zombies, with maybe one or two exceptions. And with camo grinding, purchasable bundles, and battle pass weapons, this will probably be sticking around.
@@theGODZILLA150 Ah okay, I understand now. Though to be fair, BO3 DIDN'T have all weapons available in Zombies. It was kinda unique in how it handled some weapon stats. The Argus for example in Zombies is a completely different gun than in Multiplayer or Campaign, as it fires a slug with massively increased range and accuracy, instead of just being the most accurate shotgun at the expense of damage. Two vanilla weapons in Multiplayer were unavailable in Zombies, the XR2 rifle, and the Blackcell launcher. Most DLC guns added would also not be added to Zombies, with some making one-off appearances such as the Marshalls, and then others being added to the box like the RPK (which interestingly enough, ignores Bullet Resistance against enemies that have it, giving it a unique Zombies-only function). And then of course you have a few niche Campaign-only weapons, like the spike launcher, micro missile launcher, flechette, etc
5:30 "Come back Kevin" It feels weird hearing that specially when You remember How people were mad that Elena Siegman was gone from being the singer in "Carrion" in Tranzit like... there is even a stickman animation video making fun of Black Ops 2 and one of the jokes is exactly that Kevin was singing Music for Zombies now in Tranzit and not Elena Siegman
Kevin writes the songs and plays guitar, he wrote every single song in zombies since WaW and had Elena sing them, you're thinking of Clark S. Nova who sings Carrion and WAFD
