[OUTDATED] Bonus Playable Characters in Castlevania Games 

Alright, don't lie. If you made it to the very end, you started singing/humming/whistling that song at least once. Thanks for watching! I know other, non-Metroidvania games in this series have bonus characters as well, but I haven't tried them. Are there any more really good ones?

In Curse of darkness you can play as Trevor Belmont, in Lament of innocence you can play as Joachim once you end the game with Leon.

Can't tell if this video was supposed to be trolling us or not with the grossly inaccurate statements being made in them..

Ha I was about to give this video a thumb DOWN due to all the grossly inaccurate and misinformed evaluation of the bonus characters... only to discovered that I've already gave it a thumb DOWN in the past lol! This is truly a pretty bad run through of said topic.

This video is so wrong it's not even funny. SotN has great music (except the inverted castle), Richter doesn't have transformations, magic, or access to weapons or items, and instead has reduced subweapon cost and the item crash, which is hella different. "...except he only has the whip to attack with" AND SUBWEAPONS "dashing like Mega Man X" _shows charge_ Except dashing doesn't kill enemies and you don't dash jump like that. "...and I've never had the opportunity to play either Maria mode" Kind of an important thing to pass up the video is about extra characters, and she is one. "...and Maria has some special attacks." Dude, Maria is awesome. She's way better than Richter, especially in Portrait of Ruin. "[Albus] does make up for the fact that the game is extremely hard though." He doesn't have items or equipment. That actually makes him harder since he's basically weaker Shanoa. 3:06 While amusingly true, if you beat the game once you should NOT be dying in the first goddamn area of the game.

I honestly think they could've made Hugh Baldwin a playable character in Circle of the Moon, such a cool character that I would've love to play back in the day

A lot of other people pointed out some of the flaws in the video, but probably the biggest one is not mentioning the ability to play as Simon in Harmony of Dissonance...granted it's boss rush mode only, but still.

Julius Belmont is literally the strongest Belmont ever. I like Leon, Simon, Richter and the others, but Julius is where it’s at. He literally made the castle crumble just be using Grand Cross.

Imagine if there were a Samus mode in SotN, or an Alucard mode in Super Metroid

Portrait of Ruin as Richter and Maria is one of my favorite Castlevania experiences. The whole castle is open to you at once like Richter mode in SotN, but you can level up, so you aren't constantly killed by 1 hitters in the later game.

Order of Ecclesia was so good IGA decided to make his revival of the casltevania metroidvania basically be a spiritual successor to it

I didn't think anyone could be worse than the gamegrumps at talking about castlevania.

When it comes to Circle, yeah I was also kinda bummed Hugh wasnt playable, but the alternative game modes were still fun. Hell Dagger mode has enemy seeking daggers that are pretty awesome. Portrait had bonus character based on its story, which was pretty cool, aside from the randon ad hell Axe armor. Sega saturn Symphony has all three characters unlocked and Maria is a bloody blast to play. Bigger castle with more content, only it bnb was ported by a not so stellar team to ne honest. Mean it has some stretching and longer load times. Maria and Richter both use Sub weapons differently and have different types of attacks. Richter has his dash, slide kick, back flip, uppercut, and the almighty Item Crash Maria has a tripple jump, kick attacks, Super jump, and magical spells that trigger like Alucards spells during the main game. Flamenthrowers, giant controllable dragons, healing spells, summoning Owls, and even an invincibility spell. Her alternate attack is a chargable shot like Megaman, but unlike megaman all of her magical attacks including her shots and super jump take magic energy. R and M dont level up either but they can get more HP by collecting the Hp max power ups. The Saturn version also has two additional areas in the castle, a haunted prison that works as a semi convenient short cut, and the Underground Garden. Dawn was really cool because the story expanded on the team work Julius and Co use, and that you then got to play with. One thing not mentioned here is that you need to FIND Alucard and Yoko to add them to the party. Cv is one of my alltime fave game series and the 3d games have bonus forms too, hell just about every game in the series has alternate modes to play. Extra shoutout to the Sorrow games for unlocking Julius mode at both good and bad endings. Turn evil and Bam now you get to play as the clean up crew. Its like an alternate story progression as well.

Richter mode in portrait of ruin has the dash attack and 2 other combos, Maria has some hp steal. Sisters is fun to play with I don't remember if they have a combo.

Ouch... Talk about one hell of a inaccurate analysis. I've played about all Castlevania's and highly disagree with all your statements besides Maxim mode, though Harmony of Dissonance is probably one of the worst Castlvania's in my opinion

You forgot to mention Lament of Innocence. That one lets you play as Joachim and a Pumpkin man. Curse of Darkness also lets you unlock Trevor Belmont

This was a nice, informative video. :) It's just a shame it sounds like you either don't really like the Classicvanias or haven't played them, because they are fairly standout among the genre of action/platformers, imo, and do a really good job a painting a dire horror atmosphere a lot of the time

Idk I loved sisters mode in PoR ahahahaha. Their designs were fun, but yeah would have been nice to see them... Not just float around with no animations. I get why they did it though, to utilise the unique feature of the NDS at the time.

In castlevania curse of darkness you can use Trevor Belmont and his gameplay his fantastic.

You forgot the secret Simon Belmont in the boss rush in Castlevania Harmony Of Dissonance.

In Lament of Innocence you can play as Pumpkin and as the vampire. In Lords of Shadow 1 you switch off between Gabriel and Laura after you beat the game.

U didn't mention in the video that Julius can also use a cross,holy water,an axe and some weird cross thing that makes u use something that look like an Ultimate/special move in a video game

I actually prefer Dawn to Aria, probably because I was actually able to get Dawn as a physical cartridge.. Maxim mode was pretty darn fun, but you forgot to mention the most important part. It's any% TAS (tool assisted speedrun) is about a minute long..

I think I got my old copy of PoR used bc I could play as the sisters right away. I was just a kid when I got it and I've lost it somehow since. Really sad I can't play it anymore :(

Castlevania s playable are kinda fun to play,but they cant use potions or any other item to use like the character that you play first to finish,but its still fun to play

I dont think I would say Richter controls anything like Alucard in SoTN. Alucard starts off with fairly basic movement at the start then slowly gaining powers that help him travel. While Richter is zooming around from the very start using fighting game like command inputs. Even a full power Alucard controls pretty differently, the only similar move between them is the super jump, even then they behave a bit different.

While not as celebrated or appreciated as the other Castlevania titles, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (N64) has an extra playable character, "Henry," who is a blast to play with. He has a pistol for a weapon, similar to Albus in Order of Ecclessia. Nicely done with the video!

Tbh, all of the bonus characters are really good and add new fun playstyle to the game..... Of course, except Sisters Mode and Julius from Dawn of Sorrow lol

You left out Maria Renard from Rondo of Blood and Dracula X Chronicles. She's like a glass cannon. Her attacks are very powerful, as are her item crashes, has a double jump and 2 different slides, but much lower health. In SOTN for Saturn she's a beast. In the Dracula X version of SOTN she was a pathetic ghost of her Saturn Version.

Julius and Maria are my favourites, I'm sad you didn't give Eric Lecarde any love tho! I know he's not a bonus character but the Alucard spear, man, that thing is dooooope. Decent vid, but sorry bruh, because Maria in Symphony? Ya girl wrecks that game. The glitchless speedrun WR is like seven minutes, Maria is the bombdotcom. And Maria in Rondo? Hoooooooo dat double jump gurl. Getchu a PSP my man. Treat yoself.

Julius mode in Aria is pretty epic due to drop kick, high jump, whip range and generous damage Seen julius TASS speedrun? This is how playing Julius feels like. Hours of castle exploring are 30 minutes of steamrolling through every boss now. All of those rooms and bosses that gave you a trouble now die in less than 1 minute if you play your cards right.

I love all bonus modes, Im gonna be that guy and say I did like Sisters mode yeah I liked touchscreen stuff come at me!!, other than that both Richter mode and Arias Julius mode felt like going for a "Classic" castlevania ride and the Down Julius mode... it really only missed the high jump, everything is just really cool

SotN: Richter plays a way more different than Alucard, Richter can't use items, he starts with 50 Hp, he can only collect 99 hearts and also he has the ability to make item crashes (powerful attacks with the subweapons) and some abilities to pass through the castle, also Richter can't fight some bosses. Maria (Saturn): She's Satan, she can collect more hearts than Richter, she uses the subweapons in a different way, and like Alucard, if you use some button combinations, you can make powerful spells Maria (Psp): impossible mode, you don't have Spells and you can only collect 99 hearts Also, if you press up and C in the Saturn version while you're selecting Richter, he will appear with a New costumes PoR: Richter/Maria Richter plays similar to his SotN version just with a little extras, he can make a spin kick, now he can't use item crashes (bad idea) except for a new Grand Cross. Maria plays like her Rondo of blood version, just a bit too powerful, her "sub weapons" a.k.a animals, have elemental abilities, also she can regain Mp faster. While Richter can resist more attacks, Maria is way too powerful, while she's very strong, Richter is very faster. Sisters mode: It's like a story, about the events before Johnathan/Charlotte arrived, Eric is lost and his two daughters decided to search for him. This mode is pure Touch pad, Stella has cutting abilities while Loretta has ice abilities. Also if I remember correctly, Loretta regains mp faster than Stella. Axe armor: Hard mode, you can't run, you only count with axes and the puppet master ability, it's just to test your skills in-game, it's quite funny.
