I love the learning curve in outpost building. I started with nonfunctional outposts, progressed to dysfunctional outposts, landed in semi-functional outposts, and am now working on simply functional outposts with the goal of chaining them together to manufacture second tier components. I am still at least a couple hundred hours away from the stuff in this video and looking forward to it.

Thanks for this guide. I have been messing around with outposts but have not done anything even close to this. The thing holding me back is the cargo links don't work for me all the time. I had an inter-system cargo link on one planet that didn't have H-3, so I was sending helium to that planet from the one i had it shipping its goods too. But the H-3 kept ending up back in the incoming cargo box on the base where it originated. I also had an inner-system cargo link sending iron to another outpost in that same system, but the cargo ship wouldn't depart with the iron unless I visited that outpost. I just feel there are too many bugs to spend this much time building an elaborate outpost system, but I very much want to do so. Yours is amazing.
@Polemos_RPG
@Polemos_RPG 9 месяцев назад
I understand that, I've been very lucky not to get bugged out yet, I think its where I keep everything very simple and in order. I understand if your getting bugs you might not want to put the time in, but even so, once its all set up, when the patches come it should all work fine.

Not bad. I'd use the starter base that Vash Cowaii made and then in the Advance guide he shows a massive interlink using 1-2 planets as He-3 farms. A few of the planets you showed would benefit from that dedicated He-3 farm and some of the planets he chose have easier climates. I love the storage wall! It'll take a lot of resources but seems well worth it. I know in the end of the video you mentioned Using Venus instead of waiting for resources but have you tested the T2, T3 extractors and storage capacities to see if any of them might help with the bottleneck on He-3 and other slower resources. Maybe a video on comparing the cost > output efficiency would be cool.
@Polemos_RPG

Thanks for a great video, yeah must have taken quite a while to compile all the information. I don’t have nearly as complex a setup, but do some tier 2 and 3 manufacturing with a few outposts and a central hub for resource collections and manufacturing. For XP grind its great, but for credit making it’s a bit of a pain as vendors and merchants has very limited funds to buy your stuff and there are limits to how much you can use yourself …. And the constant bug breaking the links …. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could make our own shop and sell to NPC’s, maybe a (free) DLC down the line :)
@Polemos_RPG

Would be cool, or a mod. I personally would preferer a DLC or mod that gave even more use cases of the fabricated items, I could see the unique tier items being used in something like a moon buggy.

@eMaRDi777
@eMaRDi777 8 месяцев назад
I really love the spreadsheet; I'm looking it up on a daily base when I'm working on Outposts. That said, I don't think that described system works with the planets provided in the list. Why? Helium. In your base building video part on Levathan II I see a single basic He-3 extractor. From recent observation, you need around one Level-3 Helium-3 extractor per Inter-Cargo-Link for it to work (it needs 5x He-3 per trip, one basic HE-Extractor generates around 2 Helium per round trip duration). While your first Interlink might start eventally (as soon as the 5 Helium are produced), all daisy-chained Interlinks will very quickly run dry. I've actually setup your proposal some days ago and it very much didn't work regarding transport back to the base. In this video it is suggested to have Outpost Management 4. This includes the possibility to use 4 (Inter)Links per Outpost. I'd suggest to use a planet with He-3 atmosphere (where you can get He-3 independent inside the whole Outpost boundaries). Build 5-6 Interlinks, link their HE-3 Boxes together with a Gas-Tank and link that Gas Tank to sufficient HE3-Extractors. Then link 1-2 HE3-Extractors to each Interlink-Output-Box. Otherwise you should ensure that sufficient He-3 Extractors (with a large Gas-Stroage inbetween) are feeding the Output box of your first daisy-chained Interlink to ensure ~every~ Output gets enough Helium and then initially fill up the Inboxes of each Outpost (beginning at the last) with Helium. This way you should get the chain going. You should then check on a regular base if the last link get enough Helium to keep filled. Otherwise, as the system always transfers "everything" into each chained Output-Link to its individual limit, you'll get into trouble at some point along the line. I've just setup a variantion of planets which have mostly their share of Helium to ensure each helium producing output serves only directly linked outposts. Let's see if that works. I'm totaling on 24 outposts, without Outpost Management 4.
@Polemos_RPG
@Polemos_RPG 8 месяцев назад
This is a great idea! I found it didn't work instantaneously, but as I slowly built out the outposts one by one, the storages where full by the time I was adding the next outpost and the ships filled each new outpost pretty quickly, once it filled it to the end I didn't run dry.

@johncage5368
@johncage5368 8 месяцев назад
Very good approach to get this sorted out and some excellent diagrams to work with! Did you publish the Excels somewhere? I assume the "which planet has a serious subset of the resources I need" part will be done by everyone individually, as that should vary for each player (more precise: each game a player started) as that is likely highly dependent on the procedural generation of planet surfaces with landscape patches and the combination of those. But it's definitely an excellent guide to figure that out.
@Polemos_RPG
@Polemos_RPG 8 месяцев назад
That's what I thought when making this video but it turns out, the landscapes for a pixel perfect selection in the same place provide the same topography and outpost resources, its only POI, hand collectable resources and creatures that are generated, the rest was procedurally generated, prier to the game release and everyone has the same seed.

While I'm already on quite a few of the planets you listed, what you have done goes much further than BGS did in providing a rss guide that is useful. The idea of our characters being more than space cowboys really IMO speaks to the RPG reality-based side the Game inherently has. My BIG question is one that has creeper into some comments that denounce the Outposts... the ships that do the outpost transport are major contributors to frame rate stutter and loss. Have you with your system seen that too? GREAT VID pls post more. I'm new sub now

@cmpoliver3499
@cmpoliver3499 8 месяцев назад

Just a reminder to everyone that for resources on planets it does NOT matter what you see on the planet view of resources when scanning the entire planet. Resources on planets are BIOME based which will always be the same for that planet. All the scanning skill does is show you which resources are in which biomes. For instance if Neon is found on the planet and rank 4 scanning says its only found on one side of the planet in a craters biome, it will be found in ALL the craters biomes on the planet regardless if the scanner view says it is at the landing spot. The best way to get as much resources in one outpost as possible is to land in a spot that is between two biomes and set up a outpost with the resources from both biomes in the divide.
@Polemos_RPG
@Polemos_RPG 8 месяцев назад
Yep this is a great call out, there can be literally no resources shown at the landing spot and the resources will still be there. that's a even better way of explaining it.

Couple of adjustments for this. First, make sure that you have buffer storages between your incoming Cargo link, and the outgoing Cargo link. This is to help with filtering back to the main base. Each supply ship has a limit of 600 units of cargo per trip. Second, build your main base on Venus or another high-gravity location to take advantage of the rest of your chain always producing faster. Additionally, you will want to have 1-2 cargo boxes of buffer for each resource generation building, this allows you to easily to drop in and grab things if you are in a rush or near by and dont want to go back.

I found using storage for the cargolinks or building up extra resources stored at the outposts broke the system, because the resources produce at different rates, you want small amounts of everything trickling though the system. By creating space for resources to build up along the way, this contributes to the overflow glitch that breaks the system sometimes. Just thought id let you know

This doesn't work, not because you didn't theoretically have it correct, but I have done this in practice using an easier set of planets and only 8 outposts (many hours searching for resource sweet spots.) The problem is not the theory or the hard work, the problem is that the resources do not transfer properly from the "incoming" section of the cargo link on your outpost into the "outgoing" link of another cargo link in your outpost. I have tried many many solutions to make this work. And still, it does not. I have tried to calculate the output power of each extractor versus the rarity of the mineral and actually have succeeded in getting all minerals to farm at about the same rate regardless of rarity. And yet, the incoming-outgoing problem still exists and I end up with 4 out 6 resources at my final target outpost. Sometimes only 3 of 6 resources at the final target. If ANYONE has found a fix for this please send me a message. I spent about 10 hours on the theory and the connection mapping. At least 14 hours finding sweet spots on planets for all resources and about 10 hours building the outposts and making the links. So I have wasted an enormous amount of time and am very very frustrated (especially having to quicksave and quit everytime the overhead view of outpost builder bugs.) So if there are any answers out there...PLEASE lets hear them

With my set up I'm getting small amounts of every resource being delivered to my main base, the only problem I get is that they are not being used up at the same rate in my fabrication, so occasionally I empty out some resources in the main base and sell them as they stack up. You are directly linking the cargo links and not using any storage in between on the other outposts? I have added my google sheet in the description, I don't think it will solve this for you but I thought I'd let you know just in case.

@@Polemos_RPGyou have to supply each extraction with its own full feed of resources to make this work. To leave them all powered and backed up would take a lot of incoming resources. I’m assuming it can be done because Bethesda would have built this backwards. For example if you need 2 iron and one nickel you’d need your stream to be 66% iron and 33% nickel. Also if the fabricators aren’t fully fed they’ll suck up all the resources until they are. I recommended sending in full power feeds of resources and switching production on and off between fabricators or multiple full powered streams of resources. What I mean by full power is like a tear 1 fab will do 10 per min. So a frame fab needs 10 iron and 10 aluminum per min. Only then can you move on to the next. On top of that different extractors produce deferent amounts right so we still have to match 1/1 3/2 whatever the stream requires. This will efficiently use whatever resource needed when both production and streams match.

@milehijones

Well done video and great effort putting it all together for sure! I had to stop about halfway through setting up all of the bases for several reasons. First, when I got to Sparta I the wheels came off the bus :-) I spent about 10 real life hours trying to find a location where Vanadium, Tantalum and Iridium all exist together. I watched on your video where you roughly had your outpost - looked like a volcanic area between a big Tantalum and Vanadium area - but never could find a spot even close to having all of those resources. I think I walked the planet from east to west, north to sound and never could get a spot where they exist in harmony 🙂 Secondly, the fact that I am constantly messing with the HE-3 loop to try to keep the transports moving is tiresome. I have to remove and recreate the output links constantly to get the resources moving - they get stuck constantly. For example, I would show up on Zeta Ophuichi I, and on the incoming side for He-3, it will be sitting in the incoming hopper not moving over to the gas storage and ultimately over to the next inter sytem cargo link. So I delete and recreate the output link each and every time I log into the game, then the resource moves on down the line. It then gets stuck at the next base sometimes and other times it works for a few hops - no rhyme or reason to it that I can find. Added to this, there is the problem at Levathan where my He-3 resource randomly turns into Beryllum doesn't help either. So while I want to continue to create this to the end just to see it all work, there are just too many game bugs to constantly troubleshoot to see this all come to fruition. @Polemos_RPG - thank you for the video and the effort on the spreadsheet - well done! I am glad you can get it to all work! I will enjoy your success vicariously through you 🙂

I went for the start of the cycle with 17K Helium with me, my only variation I put the big gas storages in between the cargo transports. I think this might be my downfall because it didn't take. I kept everything else simple like you recommended, in one of the outposts I found another Helium vain kind of half way in the chain which I though it would help, but to no avail. Is there an issue with the helium that you know of? Later I'll try again with the small tanks in between the cargo once I pile up the Helium again. At least I have all the resources in my main hub that I can put in manually, Damn! I though I had it. I would love to here your thoughts or ideas to try to make this work. I have a question regarding production rates and miners. I read online that depending on the rarity of the resources the production rate is lower when being mined. Also do you have any idea how many miners are needed to make it efficient enough to work with the star ports, as they collect every 3:30 mins. In terms of setup on each base did you just keep it consistent or did you change it depending on the resource. Number of miners, greenhouses etc. Could you give some insight. As I fear having one large storage facility if and one resource is over produced it will eventually become the majority as the other resources aren’t being replenished fast enough when being fed into the production line. Thanks for the video trying to replicate it now.
@Polemos_RPG
@Polemos_RPG 9 месяцев назад
I defiantly do get more of certain types of resources, but they tend to be the less rare base resources as you said, I take these and craft things at the industrial bench to get XP and clear out the stock. Then I go and sell what I crafted like adaptive frames and I just take the lower value when the vendor runs out as it will just refill later, The thing about the rarer resource is you don't need as much of them to craft with anyway, so it doesn't interrupt my process. I have actually stuck with a single tier 1 extractor for each resource. With waiting in the game, the bottleneck isn't the production, but the shipping.

To deal with excess helium and helium backups, What I'm thinking is to have the helium split at each planet, so that it fills up a reserve for the links to work and then ships the rest down the line, once it hits the end of the line, I ship the left over helium back up to leviathan and have that split so that it fills up my reserves first and then the rest gets sent to a storage that's hooked up to like 100 generators to instantly burn it. @IronyImpact
@IronyImpact 8 месяцев назад
@@Zergor I'm still trying to deal with it. Now I don't have enough. Because of a really stupid issue with how interstellar cargo links work. Basically, the input and output containers only take 300 weight, even though the ship takes 500. Therefore, if you have the output container being fed from a storage container, and the output container has 300/300 weight and the storage container has anything in it, the ship will take all of it up to 500 weight, but then when it goes to drop it off, it can only unload 300 of it and holds on to 200 weight to bring back and that's why you see it bringing back soo much H3 and putting random ores in the wrong container at your other links. To fix this, you basically have to make sure that the outputs aren't hooked up to ANY type of storage, so that the ship can never pick up more that 300 weight. You do this by linking your miners directly to the outputs and hope that it doesn't fill up when you get a shipment from another ship. So basically, I had to get rid of all helium reserves, and just feed the output directly to the miners, which is not nearly enough output. There is a console command you can do to completely fix cargo links if you're cool with disabling achievements. But yeah, kinda dumb. Lmk if you need me to clarify any of that, I'm sure it came out a garbled mess and I did not proof read.

@@Zergor that does happen, but it also happens when the ship has over 300 weight, it can't unload it all so it also returns it and as if the import doesn't have anywhere to go, it stays in the incoming bin and then if there's anything in there when the ship takes off, that ship is now broken until you delete the two cargo links to reset. One possible workaround is to link dry storage to the incoming, but I haven't tested that yet, I might make a RU-vid video on all the workarounds I'm doing and testing, I don't really make RU-vid videos, so it'll probably be crappy, but I'll send a link if I do
