the huge neck pickup doesn’t have a preamp for each string, it has a trim pot that acts as volume for each string, so you can balance and get the tone you want for each string
Look at the manual on line, it explains all about adjustments. Equalizer is no t stereo, and the adjustment pots should be done after adjusting pick-up height
I bought one of these new in 1979 but it was the Magnum I which was the passive version with regular tone and volume pots instead of the active EQ. Mine was black. Great bass. I regret selling it.
10:44 Carbon fiber strips in the neck and below the fingerboard. The glued and screwed neck joint has paper in the glue joint is to allow for d'assy 5:41 regarding the EQ, the paired slide pots: one is tone, the other is Vol. compensation for each pair
See how the pole pieces on the neck pickup diagonally alternate? That because it has 4 separate round magnets which are each individually wound. I once had the opportunity to play around with one of these for a while and I felt like there were certain tones you could get out of it that were absolutely unique to this instrument.
Fantastic tone control! Did you pay a lot? My favorite bass player plays one of those. Jah Wobble. Fat and groovy tunes. Worth checking him out on Spotify. Cheers from Brazil.
I have a 78. mag 1. The skunk stripe is carbon graphite. Mine failed due to wood shrinkage. Popped out since the stripe doesn't shrink like the wood does. Mine also has a twisted neck. Still fighting it.
I've had my Magnum II since 1980.Here is a link to the manual: www.ovationtribute.com/Catalogues/Magnum%20Bass%20Owner%20Manual/Magnum%20Bass%20Owner%20Manual.html
