I'm 51 and a recent breast cancer survivor. I'm here learning and preparing to start intermittent fasting. I have a few other health challenges so I want to make sure I do this right.
Carb addict here...I am 51 and started Keto/Carnivore/IF in January 2021 and my body feels better now than it did 10+ years ago. Bonus my weight is down from 205 to 181lbs. Inflammation is down, strength and flexibility are up!! I will continue this lifestyle!!
I started in August of 2020 on my 50th birthday. Never felt better. If you were to add the Wim Hofff method to Keto and fasting. You, would be astounded at how much better you will feel. 🙏🤝
@@danidaw32 the method has had profound benefits for me and my wife. As powerful at fasting and keto on it’s own, but all together it’s like a fountain of youth. Cold showers aren’t fun, but you will feel amazing. The breathing does wonders as well. We’re very fortunate to be Zoomers at this particular time in history. 🙏
@@Justin.Martyr that’s because you aren’t fat adapted and are metabolically unhealthy. I felt that way for the first two weeks when I went on carnivore and fasted. Now I can go three days with out even Blinking an eye. I never loose energy and feel better after three days of fasting. That you can’t do that, should seriously worry you and be huge reason to become metabolically healthy.
I'm 58 and lost 33 pounds so far. Fatty liver got reversed .Wasn't difficult to go no carb even after eating carbs all my life ( I'm Italian). Due to your help on keto and fasting.Thank You So much you helped saved my life.
It reversed mine, was on 40-100 units of insulin daily on December 2020, now in April I’ve been Off insulin for 4 plus weeks, and as of a week ago no more metformin. I joined dr. Fungs group...best money I spend each money. His program is called The Fasting Method. I just finished a 6 day 19 hour fast. Was going for 5 day but I kept on going until my body said it was time to refeed. Fasting and keto - It’s saved my life. I love this channel too.
76 yo. Lost 40 lbs in a year with 16/8 fasting. Feel fine. Not keto but cut carbs a lot. Bread once a week. Sinfull dinner desert once a week. Brisk walking on treadmill 2 miles, 4 days on 1 day off.
Hi Thomas. I started keto 2 years ago when I was 68. I will be 70 next month. I can't tell you all the benefits I have gained. I feel like I've got 15 years back. Perhaps because being older, I had time to accumulate more damage than younger people typically have. So when I went keto, there was a lot more that needed to be fixed. And it was!. I could go on and on and on with examples. Suffice it to say that I am now racing on my old ski team again, doing triathlons, and backpacking long distances, and even some climbing. Your videos have been a tremendous help to me on my keto journey,. Thank you so much, sir! Keep up the great work!
Must stress importance of keeping electrolytes up (sodium, potassium and magnesium) during a fast or you will have a very hard time and could feel sick.
I am almost 53. I do intermittent fasting and keto. I started in september and lost 11 kilo’s until now. (76,5-65,5) 👍🏻😁 I am hooked and will do this the rest of my life.
I was around 265 pounds or so when I turned 70. I was eating healthily. I had oatmeal every morning for breakfast. I saw all sorts of videos telling me the amazing difference eating oatmeal would make. I ate an apple every morning on my way to work because apples are healthy. How do you think I managed to get from 255 pounds to 265? Now I know. I had heard about keto from a friend. All I did was to start to reduce my carb intake. Nothing regimented. I got down to 267. Then I really began to reduce my carb intake which wasn't difficult because I seriously increased my fat and protein intake. I did not count calories. I rarely felt hunger. In May of last year, I turned 71 and I was down to about 235. My objective for the end of August was 225. The last 3 pounds took six weeks but I reached my objective in time. I won't say I have adhered to a ketogenic diet. I just tried to keep to a low carb one. I took to intermittent fasting. I have done a lot of 30 to 40 hour fasts. I have done several 60 hour plus fasts, two were for 67 hours. I felt great and I knew I could go overnight to get to 80 hours or more. To be safe, I chose not to. But it is amazing how well I feel when I fast. I usually do OMAD. I don't plan my longer fasts. I do them as I feel the need. I bounce between 210 and 215 pounds of late. When Canadian summer finally arrives for 2021and I can get to the ocean to swim a few days a week, I expect to be down to 205 by the end of August this year. I will 72 in two weeks. I smoked for nearly 50 years. It's never too late. You have been my guide for over a year now. Thank you.
I’m 71 & have been intermittent fasting for 3 years (8 hr eating window for 2 years, 6 hr window for the last year). I also cut out sugar & grains. Within a month of beginning this, arthritis pain disappeared. I have just begun to include OMAD twice a week.
@@DivoGo OMAD is short for “One Meal A Day”. Everything you eat that day is consumed within a one or two hour period. It is usually one large, nutrient rich meal. 🤗
IF /Keto lost 50 lbs in 8 months... 62 year old male.. it totally changed my life... wish I’d found this when I was 50... btw in better shape / health then I was at 50
I love these over 50 videos. Please do more!! I decided yesterday to start doing 3 day fasts each week. So this video is just what I needed to help me push through (I have been able to do 1 extended fast for up to 102 hours) I have lost 36 lbs up to this point, but unfortunately I have hit a very stubborn plateau. Hopefully this video will kick start me towards my goal of another 50 lbs. Keep up the excellent sharing of knowledge (50+ were given all the wrong lifestyle advice 😔)
I'm 58 and have gone from 182 to 160 in 3 months while adding muscle though resistance training. In some of Thomas's videos he suggested limited the frequency of extended fasting when over 40 people because it lowers our metabolism. I think in one he suggested taking 2 to 3 weeks off after 4 or 5 weeks. I'm guess that's responsible for your plateau.
Hi, I'm 53 and I've been doing something similar since the beginning of the year (I'm down about 80 pounds, about 40 pounds away from my goal). I haven't done full 3-days every week, but instead I'll go keto on Sunday/Monday, low-cal omega-heavy on Tuesday (just fiber/cruciferous and fish really (under 500cal), then zero intake on Wednesday, then the reverse and into normal eating days (rare breakfasts and low/no sugar on Friday and Saturday (plus cocktails, lol). Excercise throughout. I've found it to work well for me, but as I get more lean I'll move the all-day fasts into a monthly category.
Hi Thomas ! I'm a 61 year old female and I have diabetes. I love IF cause it helps control my sugar levels and I feel so much better. When I eat a breakfast, for me, I start eating throughout the day. It's very rare I'm hungry in the morning. Right now I eat around 2 pm and then a little something about 4 30 pm. I then start my fast at 5. It's working for me ! Thank you Thomas for all you do for us ! ♡♡😘
May not apply since you have Type 1 diabetes, but a small clinical trial of postmenopausal women with prediabetes shows that the compound NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) improved the ability of insulin to increase glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, which often is abnormal in people with obesity, prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes. NMN also improved expression of genes that are involved in muscle structure and remodeling. The trial was done with women since mouse studies showed NMN had the greatest effects in female mice.
@@kimdavis7812 Thomas just did a video a few days ago on it and I think the description has a link for where to get one that also has trans-resveratrol. I'm considering combining that with niacin and taking both sublingually based on what I've read.
I am 51 and have been doing keto for 30 days and I have lost 35lbs, I have been diabetic since 2007. My sugar runs 80-100 at waking and my fatigue and pain are almost gone and I now can workout and walk more than a block I am up to a mile a day! Keto has changed and saved my life! Love your videos!
I started a 20 hour I F yesterday at 1 pm... By 8:30 I was sooo hungry and shakey that I decided to eat a few 100 calories of keto friendly foods.. A judgement call because often my 20 hour fasts are quite easy.. Woke up at 8:30 after a great sleep and will eat as 4 pm . Not hungry at all. I used to stick to my fasts no matter what but at 57 years old I have to go by feel. I've lost a ton of weight but have to listen to my body... I'll enjoy some poached shrimp at 4 pm( a 20 hour fast) and follow with a meal in an hour. Probably will lose more weight anyway and not be awake all night watching muckbang videos...
i started 16 days ago and lost 7 kgs. from 110 to 103. I'll be the happiest for a moment if i see two digit numbers after 10 years. I'll keep going and become 85 in a few months .thank you for all the advices!
Thomas, I am 69 years old and have lost 75 lbs in the last 14 months just doing Intermittent Fasting. This was without understanding the physiology of our body's energy management. You have been very helpful in learning the benefits of Ketosis. My weight has been plateaued for about three months. I have just started on a ketogenic diet in addition to Intermittent Fasting and I am seeing weight loss again. Per your video, age is not a barrier to IF or Keto! Thanks for the information and inspiration.
Some suggest to switch up the hours when on a plateau. If doing 16:8, try 18:6 or 20:4 for 3-4 days. Then go back to your normal once the weight loss starts again. They say it's good to do this once weight loss is achieved too. Mix it up. Also a a day once in awhile with no fasting, or a 24 hour fast.
I love your “old people” videos. Very inspiring. I know IF works for me but the pandemic really did a bad thing to my eating windows. I’m retiring in a week and ready to start my new life with IF and keto again. When I’m in my rhythm of eating I feel fabulous.
Since 1966, I became obsessed w/ optimum health & thus religiously, consistently have read approx 1 health book per month ever since. ( over 650 books is OCD but I lecture on health) Yet, I still learn so very much from your vids.
I'll be 50 next year. I started keto with intermittent fasting 2 months ago. I'm down 30 pounds, feel like I have more energy and muscle. I feel terrific!
I'm 60 and last year had a back injury so I'm unable to exercise properly.i started following your videos and am doing 3x a week 40 hr fasts I feel great and lost 22 pds in 3mths yeah. Thanks
I'm glad I don't like eating in the morning which makes 16 to 18 hours of IF come naturally. Even though I eat a lot of carbs back in the days I never had a problem with my weight. I'm now 56 yo and try to eat healthily.
It was the same for me when I was younger. Never liked breakfast, always made me feel nauseous. Didn't eat school lunches either, only broke my fast when I got back from school at like 4pm. Would have two big meals from 4-10pm. Didn't even know what IF was. The next day, I always had so much energy in school, never experienced the crash after lunch like many people, would play sports on an empty stomach and have more stamina than everyone else. I basically stayed around the same weight from sophomore of high-school till I was in my senior year in college.
I’m 63 years old and am coming up in 2 years of straight keto diet and intermittent fasting. Lost almost 50 lbs in the first year and have remained stable weight for the last year. Feeling great and have much more energy. Lots of other benefits as well. No more heartburn, sleeping much, much better and generally much better stomach and digestive hiccups.
I'm 70. I started IF and keto a month ago. I aim for and 18/6 schedule. Within 2 weeks I was surprised at the increase in my energy. I have only lost 5.5 lbs but my ankles and hands no longer swell in the heat. I am no longer bloated. It's not as hard as I thought it would be as I make keto coffee in the morning. I dont have to be a fat old woman. I can keep this up.
Im 51 and do a 24 hr fast every other week….and the rest of the time i do 16-8……kept the weight off….have built some muscles….my shoulders and chest have never been so big. I also do sauna daily after my workouts. I feel 20 again.
Hey! Use 50 yr old images to make us not look like 90 year old. I’m fifty and I still look younger than you Thomas, jk 😝 kidding aside, thank you for the info.
I started Keto rougly 3 months ago I am 51. I have dropped 10.5 kg (24 pounds). I feel so much better. I get in and out of the car without pain or making a funny noise, my sleep has improved and my BP is down although I am still on one BP med. It has been life changing for me, and I really enjoy how much better I feel. Keto or very low carb works.
Good advice. I am 67 and started low carb no grains with fasting three years ago to cure prediabetes. After loosing 20 kg I added 7kg of muscle with regular weight lifting. For the first time I am in total control of my weight and health after decades of allergies and inflamed guts. Adding lean body mass also protects the brain as you age.
72 year old woman here, my husband and I started keto a few months back, I've done IF for a few years now, but hubby started when we went keto, he's lost 10kgs, his blood pressure is coming down, hopefully he can come off his pills eventually, he's taking them every three days now instead of every day. Thank you Thomas, you and dr. Ken Berry have enabled us to learn so much!
I’m not over 50 but I shared this video with my parents. I’ve been intermittent fasting and exercising 6 days a week for over a month now and after years of struggling with insulin resistance I am officially down 30 pounds!! With more to go.. but I’m feeling better and younger then I did when I was a teenager. This video will definitely inspire my parents to join me on this journey. Thank you for that!
At age 52, I have found that fasting has helped me lose the weight on a constant basis. Currently I have lost 35lbs in the past month and a half. How beneficial is it to do a long 48 hour fast ?
Thank you Thomas, for researching and talking about all age groups especially us seniors. After all, isn't everyone wanting to age well and stay healthy and active as long as possible? I am a 64 year old female who discovered keto about 5 years ago, added IF about 2 years ago. Best thing ever, for me. Keep up the good work.
Off topic but I’ve seen some of your other videos. Please do a video on fermentation. I only ask because you talk about sauerkraut? But is cabbage really the best vegetable to ferment for keto probiotics and ? What about fermented beets for nos and probiotics etc? Should we Ferment somthing already low carb or should you just ferment a healthy vegetable just to take down the carb content for keto and probiotic sake? Post workout fermented beets? What about fermented kale, asparagus, or broccoli? Just thoughts that I have no idea about the results?
Oh another several who are certified health care profession including Dr's and Nurses, you are educating as well and they are proud to say so... I consider you a True functional medicine as in food Professional....
Nice explanation. Just something foes not work for me. I am 7 month on keto. Eating window is 6 h. On blood test dies not show any ketons about 0.4 and glucose 5.5. I cant find explanation. Any suggestion I
62 and it works! Keeping my muscle and losing fat. Feel amazing as well with alternate carnivore, fasting weekly 4:2:1 and Once a month I do 3 to 5 day water fasts and in and out of ketosis. Less body pain. More cognitive function and no brain fog. So many benefits to share!💕🙏👍
Just entered my 50s this passed Birthday. Just entering into my last 6 hours of my 72he fast. I feel amazing. I got everything I need for a successful fast break .
Hi Thomas, I have follow your video for "Over Age 40 IF" and now "Over Age 50 Intermittent Fasting : Complete Benefits Guide." As I am now 86 years old [as on 01-02-2023], is the Over Age 50 IF guide applicable to those Over Age 80. Currently, I'm on 16:8 protocol for more than 2 years now? Thank you and awaiting for your kind reply.
I am 58 years old and I lost 30 pounds in 3 months with Keto and IF. I am still learning it but I feel better than ever, even my sexual life got much better! I don't know what will be the long term results but for only 3 months and the results have blow my mind and everything that I have try in the past, all just makes sense to me.
Hi Thomas & All. I follow your channel and also Keto. I do 18:6 fasting.....I LOVE !! I am 50. Everyday I do around 2.5 - 3 hrs training, being weights, cardio and boxing. My question is this, by any chance do you have a video regarding Keto & Fasting for people over 50 and being active? Any suggestions as to how keep shredded and gain weight for our age cohort please? Keep Up your good & professional work buddy!
Hi,I am 56.I have been on intermittent fasting for last 10 months and my insulin levels have come to nearly normal level.i was on 30 unit insulin before but now on 8 unit only, lost 6 kg weight now 72 kg.(5'11"ht). problem is losing muscle mass.could you tell how to correct that problem.and energy levels are also ok.
I'm 59 yr old female who is losing muscle as I'm getting weaker. I'm 5ft 2.5" n weigh 167lb. I used to go to the gym but struggled to use even the lightest weights they had, n I'd just get injured. Not stronger. I also get light headed from low sugar. I recently tried keto but had a bad migraine which I never have. So bad I thought it was a stroke! I'm starting keto with IF again from today but easing back on carbs slowly. I did just fasting for 2.5 months (not keto) 18/6 n lost only 2lb!!! Fat won't budge!!!
bro, after a very informative and well broken down explanation. there are still those of us over 50 that don't understand half of what you Said. ( SORRY). Is there any chance that you could please write out the do and don't s , as far as what precise foods to eat and when all the while including the fastinportion of the program, PLEASE Just break it down for us by foods and length of fasting. an is black coffee ok during the fasting phase to keep the hunger pains away. In general terms? PLEASE!
Some people (especially older people) are on medications called beta blockers - I’m one of these people. Doing a diet which involves getting into a state of ketosis actually makes us gain weight. I was around 235lbs and went on low carbs. After 12 weeks I actually went up to 266 lbs without even trying. It was dreadful. I have never felt so ill. This added weight was even more incredibly difficult to shift. Higher carbs and calorie restrictions eventually shifted it but it is so incredibly easy for me to put weight on. I can put 15lbs on in a fortnight without too much trouble at all, just by cutting down carbs and eating high protein/fats. I’m loathe to try fasting just in case!
🎵 A - G - L - E - T, that's the aglet! 🎶 Thanks to my kids for watching Phineas and Ferb over and over again when they were young! 😊 (Aglets are the plastic thingies at the end of shoelaces.)
This channel has really really helped me out. It’s easier to fast with this guy’s videos … I am down over 30 pounds, over 55, I really enjoy this channel and it is so helpful. Thanks man!
Fasting and dry fasting has lowered my blood pressure from 150/110 to 120/80. I gave the blood pressure of a 20 yr old I went from 270-245 in three weeks. My body was retained water from my bp pills. If I monk fast ones a week I could come off my pills all together
Thanks Thomas, I have learned so much from your channel regarding IF and see a major difference in my body/mental fitness. Keep up with the great content, your a bloody legend! Oh, incidentally, the creatine has helped me tremendously.
Thank you SO much for doing these videos, I’m 55 & lost 140 pounds after gastric bypass surgery 22 years ago. I gained weight & lost weight my whole life, please do more of these specifically targeting Menopausal Women over 50. Thanks!
I am 56 and intermittent fasting has helped me lean up and it has also helped my asthma tremendously. It works!! At 56 i feel better than when i was 40. And i was in good shape then.
I just recently turned 60 years of age. I started the 16-8 intermittent fasting on April 19th, 2021. In doing so, I went from being Type 2 Diabetic, to getting off of my meds in December and have stayed off the meds to the point that the doctor stopped the diabetic meds. So, I can attest to this working for that. My concern about being diabetic, was my mother was diabetic and suffered from Dementia and passed because she was forgetting to eat. So, I took it upon myself to take action and not possibly suffer from the same thing at the same age. Thank you Thomas for the information you have provided to me during this time I have chosen to take by doing the intermittent fasting.
I started keto Dec 31st starting weight 227 current weight 207, why is the weight loss so darn slow I go up and down like a yo yo all the time, totally frustrated....
Follow your blood work. I am very lean, do weighted workouts to maintain muscle mass and just did my blood work and insulin level was 3.1. I Go 14 to 16 hrs. Everyday it’s just a natural thing now..
Wondering if fasting is so much of a hormonic stressor that it may contribute to high blood pressure? Would resistance training while fasted contribute?
I'll be 66 next week and I've been using IF for a while now. It's the ONLY eating protocol that I have been able to stick with and not feel deprived at all!! I've been trying to lose weight and keep it off since I was in my 20's! Yes, seriously! But I could never stick with it. I'd always miss the foods I had cut out and revert back to my old habits. Well, with IF, I haven't cut out anything. I have reduced how often I eat certain things but I still eat them on occasion. As I have continued on this journey, my desire for the 'junk' has almost completely disappeared...I don't even miss it. Perhaps it's because it isn't forbidden anymore? I absolutely LOVE this lifestyle!!! It's falling off a log easy! I'm almost 100lbs down...closing in on a weight I haven''t seen in like 40 years! It's a wonderful thing to feel so free FINALLY!!! I thank God daily because He led me to this, I believe and it's the greatest thing going. I feel better, I look better, of course I'm tossing out clothes left and right, I'm eating better too because I'm fasting a lot and I want to make sure I stay as healthy as possible. But when I want to celebrate, I do it and without any guilt! My appetite has reduced a great deal...I hardly ever get hungry anymore. I love this...I will NEVER go back to eating three meals and snacks. Why would I? I wish all of you who are using it or who hope to, the same success that I am having. Skinny jeans are waiting for me! Yippee!!!
i am 73. i went on keto and intermittent fasting , 17/1/2022 to day 30/6/2022 .. 7 days 22 / 2 h lost 3 st go to gym 3 days a week thanks , i am 5ft 6" 12st
Hi Tomas I just started my intermittent fasting to reverse my rumatoid AR pl guide me, I am watching your videos and getting instructions for which I am thanking you for your efforts.
Thomas- I am 76yrs and fairly new to IF, but let me tell you- I’m well impressed with your knowledge and your statement claim of not being a Doctor. I wish my Doctors had a telomere fraction of your experience and learned information- they would do a vastly better job than they are now! Thank you for these YT clips!
I’m 53 and I started keto and IF when I hit an all time high on the scale. Heavy, tired, inflamed, sore.... I’ve dropped over 40 lbs so far, feeling so much more awake and alive. Thank you TD, I have learned so much from you.
I think people over 50 need to fast rather than younger people because by age 50 weight gain is easy and health issues are a real challenge. Fasting definitely helps.
Fasting with A.L.S. gave me ability to walk much better! My legs are stronger! My voice is is also more pronounced, as previously, before fasting / before getting on the Keto diet, I could barely talk, and barely walk! Woohoo! THANK YOU! 🙏⚡️💪✅ #ALS #reversingals (!!)
Thomas. 2:45am here N.Z getting up shortly. My son's 16th birthday today which is Sunday Anzac day here in New Zealand. We've been going to celebrate & Appreciate each & everyone of them. Respect R.I.P ✌🏾🌏🖤's🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️
I must say this your dedication and research is saving lives literally as well as the quality of lives for millions . Keep up the wonderful work you do and May God bless you and your family 🙏
I’m turning 59 in November. Been calorie restricting over the years...always gained it back. Got up to 237. Cut out alcohol M-TH. Started working out 3 days a week and doing IF pretty much every day. Usually 18:6 during the week and 16:8 on weekends with a couple 24 hour fasts thrown in when I think I can pull it off. Don’t do keto cuz I love everything keto doesn’t allow...LOL! Still lost 31 lbs in 4 months. Easy to keep up and don’t have to really calorie restrict...amazing!
I do 16 hr IF about 6 days a week. Also do various You Tube exercise vids, usually 2-3 15 min ones per day...Tai Chi, stretching, strengthening. Amazed how many squats I can do now. Also do a 30-45 min walk with my dogs. I'm 68. Start with senior exercises if you haven't been exercising. Baby steps! See Wendy Ida on You Tube...she's 68!
