This video reminded me on my biggest crash this summer on a 40ft jump...Almost broke my neck and since then I just don't feel it anymore, no confidence... Thanks for the tips dude will try to apply them, cheers!
Hey Tom Cardy! Interesting and inspiring vid! Hearing you speak of your crash history makes me respect you even more! Most folks will never try anything even close to the jumps you do and you've found the courage to jump again after serious injury! Stay safe and hydrated! Ride ride ride!
Overcoming fear truly is one of the greatest things about mountain biking. That intense feeling of accomplishment after you finally nailed that scary descent, jump, ridge, trail or whatever is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. You can see your progression grow and know that (in most cases) it was the fear that held you back, not your what you tought lack of skills. Off course it's all easier said than done, but having mates that are a few leagues ahead of you REALLY helps a lot. In these last few weeks I've done some amazing downhill stuff that I always wanted to do but never had the guts for, but thanks to great help and confidence from friends and a great mindset I enjoy mountain biking now more than ever. And yes off course there's always a chance of failing or crashing and hurting yourself, but that's also part of the progress. Just wear lots of protection and keep calm yet focused. Push your limits and have more fun than ever before. Peace.
Hi Tom. Super appreciate this video. Well done and very informative. I crashed couple month ago and I have no recollection how and what happened. So I was dealing with this for a while. I think these tips might help! Thanks mate! :)
Great information Tom! I actually watched the entire video!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences, who said you can't teach an Old dog New tricks?? Keep on keeping on!!
I crashed hard on shale at Betteshanger, whacked my shoulder on a rock and travelled a long way without my bike. I got straight back up to do it again although I did it much slower than I wanted to as there was some fear of course, but next time I go I don't think I will be as scared as if I had just walked away. Nice video!
I really liked this video, it's all true, Can you do another video where you explain your story, what age did you start riding, how much time do you ride a day, what age did you start races and contests. Thanks man for your videos💪🙂
What causes fear? Breaking your shiny new bike bought by your hard earn money through selling everything in your possesion(exaggeration). LOL This is the cause of my fear.
Really good information 💪but my Personal pushin trick is learning without friends because then there is no one around me that can make me nervous with watching me 😂👍
You suggested like a professional psychiatrist!!! All we need is a good mindset and you explained it really well!!! You are a good medicine for me to overcome and build confidence... thanks bro!!!
Hello everyone! I don't realy know why, but i am really, really scared of small jumps around 1-2 meters. I know i can make them and even overjump them, but lately i crashed really bad and i broke my arm :(. Please if you have any reccomendations say them
Just subscribed after catching you guesting in on Sp’s how to jump down at Danbury. A lot of common sense there. Any guidance on how to get used to the speed you need to come in to the kickier launches for an average rider, the sort which are 35-45 degree take offs but perhaps only 2-3 foot high? The landings often a couple of bike lengths away or a little road gap kind of thing.
I learned 360's at a foampit and i know that i can do them but when i try them at dirt jumps i underrotate everytime next time i use your tipps i hope it works
Excellent 👌👍👍👍. Fear is healthy but in my case a little over dramatic. I hate crashing big and breaking things, keeping me from getting back on the horse?
A tip: If you’re building jumps or learning a double or something just do it small or without the double. then make it bigger, and gradually keep doing that until you think of the first ever small evolution of that jump. Then you will think that that evolution of that jump is tiny.
That worked with my dirtbike to jump a smaller jump before you send a big one so you’re confident jumping I was jumping my small jump because I was afraid to hit a big one at my friends house then when I went back And sent it
Take some heavy anxiety pills for people with flight problems and you want be scared, anyhow it will probably take away your skills but it's probably fun
Gonna try and take this advice and hope it helps me, I’m having a mental block with a steep sharp left turn at local downhill track at the moment I just can’t ride it and it’s really frustrating, I think half of the reason is because I can’t see properly in my left eye so when I get to the corner I have to turn my head too much to the left to see where I’m heading but it’s driving me nuts because I’ve ridden way harder stuff. So frustrating! I’ve always had poor, blurred vision in my left eye but never got in the way of my life and hobbies before I started mountain biking, I notice it alot more now!
I have a fear of breaking my bike becuz its my only bike and my family is broke af and we have no money to repair or buy a new one, I can't even upgrade my bike, so if I break my bike while doing tricks and do some high jumps it would be probably my last ride with my bike, so how should I overcome it?
This is easily better than all those so-called motivational vids. Definitely getting payback on the jump I crashed real hard this season in the next one. (was nothing too bad, really, but I got my chest smashed into the ground and couldn't breathe properly for like an hour, sucked a lot)
Hey man This is the vid Ive been looking for for ages! Thanks great tips will be watching this over n over again! I broke a collar bone pissin about of a jump first time so sent my confidence up my arse lol but now two years later im ready to get stoked n start from the beginning n learning thnx man 👍😎✌️😎✌️
Sick video tom I wonder if you could do a video or share some of you thorts on the different versions of barspins and what you can do with catching your hand on the brake as you land?
A great video. Really enjoying your content - pragmatic advice (from someone who actually knows what they are talking about) and really well delivered.
When u have fckd up coordination and ur afraid of injury. Yeah, its me... I'll fkn fix it! Im building my first bike now and in the next year I'll be trying to overcome my fears 😏 wish my luck 😎🤙
Some of the BEST things you can do as a rider to be safe and overcome fear are: 1.) ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET 2.) WEAR KNEE PADS 3.) WEAR ELBOW PADS This is such a simple and highly effective way to avoid unnecessary injuries and give you peace of mind when you are riding.
What kind of workout do you do to help your shoulder? I fractured and dislocated mine along with broken ribs 3 months ago and it's still not great, definitely makes you want to stay on the bike after a crash like that, seem to be overthinking every obstacle now with fear of doing it again...
