This video shows a 2005 Citroen Berlingo 1.6 petrol with an overheating problem fixed by replacement of the engine cooling fan resistor. The information shown here applies also to other Citroen and Peugeot cars fitted with this engine (and I think also the 1.4, and some other engines), and the general principals apply to most cars.

This video did confirm the initial diagnosis in my 206 1.1L, this was really helpful and it did work, although I had both: a faulty coolant temperature sensor and a Radiator Fan Resistor. expecting More Good Citroen/Peugeot Fix Videos. Thanks.

i have the same car 206 l4 1.1L 60hp drove me crazy until i stumbled upon this useful video ! in fact i didn't even know that this resistor thing existed on my car. thanks to the uploader. you are a life saver

@@mbarizia he saved me from alot of scammer mechanics tbh, I did change them really easy myself. Took me around an hour to change both, however I needed to recalibrate the Coolant Temperature Gauge, Hit Me Up if you need to know how to do so easy and without the use of an OBD2 Diagnostic Tool. The Easy way, if you happen to have a Diagnostic Tool, get into the BSI section, Gauges, then press "Reset All Stepper Motors" once you press that your gauges will reset and stay on the lowest position for like 2 seconds making a ticking noise then your done.

Very helpful. I fitted a new thermostat myself thinking that it would fix the problem, but it didn't. Now at least I can replace the fan resistor after watching this video. Thanks for sharing !!

I have a partner 2012 and this was the reason radiator fan wasn't setting off. It goes off full speed when i switch on ac but doesn't start at all otherwise. I didn't even know this resistance existed . Thank you

Same exact problem on my 1.6 16v 206 - changed thermostat, sensor, and antifreeze, cleaned relays but no effect. One thing I didn't notice earlier is that my A/C doesn't work which is a symptom of the resistor not working the fan on low fan speed because the A/C needs pressure. Another thing I did notice is that the fan would turn sometimes but not always, and sometimes would kick in with a slight physically push but without any bearing issue or mechanical issue on the fan motor. Hope this helps.

I hope you can answer this as it's been two years.... My temp is staying on just over 90 like the end part of the video and then just under to 100 degrees. My question is after this did it continue to stay just above 90 degrees or did it drop?
@iofix
@iofix Год назад
Can't remember exactly - think it just stayed around 90.

Hi, is the fan still can run when the resistor failed and just not activated the high speed fan mode? Or the fan not running at all?
@iofix
@iofix 2 года назад
Yes, but I think on high speed only.

Hi, i have the same motor and noticed the temp stays at 80deg once warmed up is this correct?
@iofix
@iofix 2 года назад
Seems a bit low, 90 is the rule of thumb figure I go by, maybe your thermostat isn't closing as much as it should.

I have an issue where my van goes into limp mode when the revs drop to tick over, could this be related to the cooling fan? The last garage I went to said there was a cooling fan related code showing.
@iofix
@iofix 7 месяцев назад
I doubt the cooling fan issue would make it go into limp mode - but not sure.

@@iofix all sorted now 👍 It was the cooling (radiator) fan resistor. It had corroded, so I fitted a new one and all good now 😊

Would give a thumbs up if 1- lazy,lazy man refilmed how to remove and fit resistor- that's what this video is meant to show- I can get a crap PDF that describes the removal and fit 2- how to test new resistor- not rocket science- borrow a hairdryer, run it on lowest setting, slowly move heat towards resistor- with test meter on OHMS setting, should continuously change as it gets hotter- that's a good way- best way? Find out resistor OHMS at temperatures stated by manufacturer- get resistor (it's actually called a thermistor- thermal resistor) to that temperature,if it's OHMS reading is within manufacturers specifications ( usually a tolerance is allowed) you have a GUARANTEED working replacement...
