Hello friend, thanks for continuing to watch Overlord. As always, I want to complement some information based on information from the light novels. As I mentioned earlier: While the imperial army are professional knights paid by the government, the army of the Re-estize Kingdom are mainly conscripts, citizens of the countryside who are forced to quit their jobs and go to war along with the nobles. In the meantime, there is hardly anyone working the fields or doing the work of generating wealth. So, each war is much harder financially on the Kingdom, while the Empire hardly feels it. That is why the Jirvich Emperor, who wished to conquer the kingdom, made an "annual war" and attacked them every year, ending in a draw, but knowing that he was slowly depleting the kingdom's forces and creating the conditions for a famine. The king, some intelligent nobles like Marquis Raven have realized this, but the rest of the nobles have not noticed it and have become accustomed to seeing the War against the empire as an event where they can gain fame. This is especially important now, because after the Jaldabaoth event, the nobles lost a lot of prestige as cowards who only guarded their property, while the king and the second prince are considered heroes who risked their lives for the people. That is why most do not take Ainz's threat seriously and believe that it is an excuse for the usual conflict. They also don't notice the first sign that this war is different: The Empire has mustered triple the number of soldiers compared to all previous wars. However, concerns begin when a statement arrives from the Slane Theocracy declaring their neutrality. The news causes the nobles to suspect the countries wariness as they were all making such an overreaction over a single magic caster. Due to the nobles' ignorance about magic, they believed that magic casters were just performers, who used tricks such as fireballs and flight on the battlefield. They believed that a single magic spell that could cause great destruction is just a myth. After Gazef's constant warning and persuasion not to underestimate Ainz, they decided to send five thousand men to fight Ainz as an estimation of his power in the war, but Gazef still thinks that they are underestimating him. The king's main problem is his eldest son and heir to the throne, Barbro, who is a good warrior, but he is a corrupt man who has already sold out to the aristocratic faction and even accepted bribes from the 8 Fingers. There is no way to allow him to be king and he would have had to be disinherited or killed. But the king loves his children very much and that is why he cannot take the necessary step; this has allowed the aristocratic faction to grow a lot around prince Barbro. Now the first prince wanted to be on the front lines during the battle and that would have been an excellent opportunity for him to die with honor, but the king saves him again by sending him to investigate Villa Carne and the corrupt faction of aristocrats agrees because they don't want to risk it. to lose his future "puppet". Marquis Raven complains about it, but he himself loves his own son too much. In the novel we are told that Raven married for purely political reasons and all he wanted was to gain more power. Neither he loved his wife nor his wife him, but everything changed when his son was born and since then he decided to work with all his might to make the kingdom a better country where his son could live. We then see the scene where Gazef, Brain, and Climb meet up. Then the most "Death Flag" phrase among all existing "Death Flag" phrase is uttered: “Let's meet again here when it's all over.” If you're someone who often watches anime, you'll know that this always means that they won't all get together again. At the Empire's Imperial Castrum, Nimble Arc Dale Anoch (the last of the four imperial knights) meets up with the army commander. They talk about this war being a bloody battle to capture E-Rantel as a gift to honor the alliance between the Empire and Ainz Ooal Gown while building a friendly relationship. The empire also requests for Ainz to cast one of his powerful magic, to determine his power. But in the novel, Nimble makes it clear to the general that Ainz is not really an ally, but a potential enemy, and that this is all just an attempt to gather information. They then welcome the Sorcerer King's arrival with great hospitality. Afterward, Ainz's army is teleported and their arrival made everyone realize, with just their appearance alone, that the small army of five hundred is not to be underestimated. While marching towards Carne Village, the first prince is angry at the king for not allowing him to join the war at Katze Plains. Thinking of his siblings, fearing that he was being cast off and that the future of the throne was being decided by the king already, he then decides to make an outstanding achievement. He concludes that he would make the villagers there join his army, and return to the war at Katze Plains. Well, that would be all that happened in this chapter. I love anime, there’s no guarantee of a happy ending, and you never know what’s going to happen. It makes you feel more for the characters they created.

Background info time. Ok so the Empires been going to war each year a bit earlier than they do this time, aiming for the peak of harvest time. They delay for Ainz this time. Since the kingdom uses a conscript army of peasants this means they are off to face the empire instead of working the fields. The empire uses professional soldiers who don't effect such things when going to the battles. It's mostly posturing with few casualties, but the loss of production is slowly destroying the Kingdoms economic security. Jircnivs long term goal with the fights has been to destabilise then mop up rather than conquer. Also once again maneuvering between two factions here, The royals supporing the king, and the nobles looking to gain more influence (supporting the elder prince). Marquis Raeven is knowing for playing both sides. E-Rantel (Area Ainz is claiming) contains a fortified city where the army gathers and large grain stockpiles to feed them, large amounts of food producing land, and is part of the kings domain. So The king losing E-Rantel weakens him politically, as well as being a massive blow to the kingdoms ability to feed itself. So losing it would shift the political power balance heavily. Jircniv intends for Ainz to use his largest spell to show the other countries they need to team up against him. Plan being by showing what a danger he is the different human nations should unite and destroy Nazarick.

Raven was before like any other noble and held the desire to seize the throne for himself and married his wife as a political tool to reach that goal (and was sure to discard her when necesary) All that came crashing down when his son was born, he (in the fatherly way), fell in love with his son and wanted nothing more than ensure his safety and happiness. As for his wife he now cares for her and even wishes to thank her for the son she gave him, but he is a little too much of a proud man to do so. The nobles in the kingdom disregard magic and that is why they do not acknoledge Ains as a problem and think they can deal easily with him, also that is the reason why magic is not as advance as it is in other countries since they do not believe in it as a viable tool for war.

The 3 Amigos each have a piece of the mystery they don't even know they have, and like a leaf in the wind blows right past them.... 🤣 The King may be "good" but Re-Estize has been circling the drain for years. Full GoT drama at every turn. Even needing double agents undercover like Marquis Raevan to police the nobles is a bad sign. 😱

Please please please do a double bill for the season final. It honestly deserves it

Just as a fun fact as the anime portrays Ainz's army differently than what it is in the Light Novel. In the anime the army he brings consists of only Death Knights which are around level 35 with the offensive stats of a level 25 and the defensive states of a level 40, and Ainz estimates that in order to solo a Death Knight you would need to be around level 45. However, in the Light Novel the army Ainz brings... is unimaginably more terrifying and powerful. He brings an army of 200 Death Knights, 300 Death Warriors, and 500 Soul Eaters as the Death Knights and Death Warriors mounts. A Death Warrior is the opposite of a Death Knight as they are around level 35 with the defensive stats of a level 25 and offensive stats of a level 40. And the Soul Eaters are around level 40 with the ability to consume the souls of the dead around them to buff their stats and heal their HP. 3 Soul Eaters once naturally appeared and wiped out a beast man city with 100,000 people, making them a national level threat. Ainz's army of 1000 level 35-40 literally has the power to wipe out 98% of the world with only 2 countries possessing the strength to oppose them and a handful of scattered individuals. But even those countries would be mostly destroyed after dealing with those 1000. And this is only a fraction of Nazarick's power as Nazarick literally has tens of thousands of Old Guarders, Elder Guarders, and Master Guarders who range from Mithril to Adamantite rank or level 20-29 that just spawn in for free. And then the hundreds if not a few thousand npcs and area guardians that possess levels between 30-90 and then the level 100 floor guardians on top of that.

Reminder, Little Lee is who Golden Princess is to marry to cover up so she can go live with Climb, and you can maybe see why he was very distressed by her proposal Edit: it's not important for anything. I'm just pointing it out for the sake of it.

Climb, Gazef and Blaine are the trio of Overlord

This is also another set up episode so not too much to discuss except to clarify a couple things. The portion of Ainz's "army" that is sent through the gate is 500 strong, in the anime its entirely Death Knights but in the LN it's 200 Death Knights and 300 Death Warriors ALL of which are mounted on Soul Eaters (flaming skeleton horses). Everyone panics when they see Death Knights because it's a known fact in the New World that just ONE of them is strong enough to completely destroy a city, while the denizens would be powerless to stop it. Fluder keeps 1 single Death Knight locked up in the deepest part of the castle in the Empire under heavy guard and kept in heavy chains because if it broke free the capital city wouldn't survive the onslaught without Fluder's intervention.

This episode, calm before the storm. Cant wait for the last 3 episodes!

Honnestly i’ve just been waiting patiently for episode 11’s reaction. One of the best hype moments for me :) Too bad i have to wait till next week :(

In most anime... you typically know who will survive because you get that background for that one specific character, but in Overlord... you have no idea. Young Maiden, Old Man, Naga... 2mins, 10 mins, whole episodes... it is just so random and it keeps you locked hoping your favorite characters survive!

the reason the empire fights a yearly war is to weaken the kingdoms food reserved since the farmers have to stop and even fight during the war it weakens the kingdoms overall strength just enough to keep them in check so that they dont get stronger and make a final war, is kinda like pressing the alarm button to give you a few more minutes of rest

Note, the anime didn't show all that came out of that gate. Pretrty sure you should have had mounted death knights as well riding on Soul eaters (Burninng Undead Horses)

I adore this part, but I’m gonna drop this reminder. Ainz uses whatever method he finds most effective to win, and some times he is The Villan of this series.

The Undead Army isn't as powerful as one might think. The LNs have him bring with him Soul Eaters as well. Even still, the army from Season 2 that was a display of power against the Lizardmen, the one after the botched attack, was far more powerful. Ainz isn't demonstrating his full power right now. The fact that every nation fears this much of what he has shown is hilarious, knowing what true horrors are yet to be unleashed.

The king is not nice, he is a fool who causes the death of ten if not hundreds of thousand people. Even before the appearance of Nazarick he prioritised his nobles lives and so on over the normal people. His people, which you do not see in the anime, are constantly living in suffering and starvation. Instead of actually developing a standing army and advancing in magic, the kingdom prefers to forcefully conscript the men, farmers and other as such. They do this until they have 2 to 5 times as many soldiers as their enemy and force them to fight regardless how many people they lose until they have won. This causes major food shortages and other issues which is why adventures are in such high demand and why they can request such high pay. The reason the illegal slave trade and stuff is going so strong and 8 fingers could do all that is because all that was normal occurrence only a few years, not even a decade ago. Renner with her genius managed to influence things in a way that allowed slavery to be outlawed. Before that anyone with a little bit of power could just make a commoner his or her personal slave and do whatever with them. The kingdom is actually lowest of the low human countries, that is why the slane theocracy tried to kill Gazeff. They wanted the kingdom to fall to the empire to rebuild it and better it. For most of these nobles owning slaves is totally normal and commoners amount to nothing for them. The king is willing to let hundred thousands of commoners die for sake of one corrupt noble that wronged their kingdoms partner. He basically only cares about his children and nobility. He did not take Gazeff's warnings seriously enough and all the good stuff you saw him do was either to strengthen his own position or because his children Renner or Zeke influenced him to do so.

Marquis Raeven has a politically arranged marriage so he was aloof to his wife once his son was born he had something to shower affection on and is slowly warming to his wife. Death flags waving throughout this episode. The Kingdom is like a little kid putting on his toy store cowboy outfit and cap gun going out to have a showdown against The Sundance Kid.

compare the empires bloddy emperor el nix who did brutal things to get power and cleaned up the rotten nobles in his land he is by far not nice but his people live happy safe lives compare that to the nice king whose citizens live in near poverty with criminals everywhere and rotten nobles leeching off taxes and doing whatever they want cos again he is too nice

the king is too soft and because he is too soft is why half his kingdom was being controlled by the 8 fingers his eldest son corrupted his farmlands barely keeping up with demand and half the nobles being paid by other countries this kingdom was like a red apple with a rotten core just a matter of time before it all went to pot

Just a quick note that you'll definitely notice. The 3D animation will be, and already is to some extent, complete dog-shit. It's just unfortunately how it is. iirc the studio was both low on budget and low on time. I think that some of the episode releases had to be pushed back by few hours just so that they had enough time to get them ready. Not 100% sure on that one so don't quote me on it.
