(Not spoilers as it nevers comes up): Lord Touch Me, is actually "Touch Me - If You Can". A famous PVP player who befriended Momonga in the game and is credited by Momonga as the reason behind the idea of making a guild in the first place. Touch Me had a sort of chivalrous sense of justice and honor, which can be seen in the NPC he created

Lord Touch Me was one of the top 3 ranked pvp players in the whole game, if not #1, so touch me if you can was sort of a challenge/insult to his opponents.

Second hand info: Don't worry about knight guy who took too many torso piercings from Death Knight, i heard that in anime they didn't include part where he boasted to two girls father how he was going to have his way with older sister and when he was done, he would toss her to his men to have their way.

Ok so I'll explain the magic system, there are 10 tiers with tier 1 being the weakest and tier 10 being the strongest that's all you need to know for now

OK, so this seems to be confusing for a lot of people so i'll try to explain it. The world they are currently in IS NOT the world of the video game he was playing, it is a completely separate world. Suzuki Satoru (Momonga) was not transferred to the game world, he reincarnated as his game character in this completely new world. The servants of Nazarick (i.e. Albedo, Demiurge, Aura, Mare...etc) were all NPC's created by the guildmembers. This is why they are so blindly loyal to Momonga and view him as a god, because he's essentially a PC who created the NPC's (in the same way in a video game you can order troops in a strategy game to do something and they'll do it completely blindly)

By the way, this is not mentioned in the anime, but the name of the guild was originally "Nine's Own Goal", which corresponded to the 9 first players of the guild, among which were Touch Me and Momonga. However, with the increase in the number of members, it became irrelevant and was replaced by a consonant set of words "Ains Ooal Gown".

His name is Momonga (for now), and Yes, he is going by "Ainz Ool Gown" (the name of his guild) so that if any of his guildmates DID make it to this new world, they would recognize it and come to him.

10:47: The magic system in this world goes from 1-10. His intention was to gauge the strength of the humans, which is why he used such a high tier ability, then went down _four_ tiers, only to still be surprised at how they were dying with one hit. 11:56: Momonga specializes in necromancy. Death Knights are not OP, but they have very worthwhile abilities. It's victims turn into zombies under it's control, it can survive any OHKO with 1HP, and can draw aggro toward itself. So its summoner has a near guaranteed chance to plan a counterattack before the Death Knight dies.

The reason Touch Me had that name is because he was a warrior who had figured out how to not only min-max, but how to play at another level. His name is litterally a challenge to his enemies to land a single hit, kinda like Morpheos in The Matrix saying "Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!", because he was that good. Also Grasp Heart is a 9th tier instant death spell. the highest tier is 10.

Ainz, originally Suzuki Satoru, lived in a dystopian Earth (2138) marked by environmental collapse and corporate domination. Mega conglomerates, operating as 'Black Companies' (think sweatshops but worse), controlled all aspects of life and overtook the governments (judicially, legislatively, and executive), overworking people to early death. Environmental degradation made outdoor activities impossible (constant smog, acid rain, the sun rarely ever peaked through the cloud, but you still couldn't see the sky, it killed outside farming and vegetation). So virtual worlds like Yggdrasil offered an escape from the harsh reality. Ainz's excitement about the sky and moon in the previous episode stems from a polluted world where such sights are rare-outside of pictures or videos. Honestly, the amount of lore about Earth in 2138 is so sad and is an obvious cautionary tale to where we're headed. The anime almost doesn't touch the subject at all. But Yggdrasil Online, named after the tree from Norse Mythology, was a game world. Momonga/Ainz & all of the Underground tomb of Nazarick, was transported from the game world to the New World (an alternate universe/it is very real) just as Yggdrasil Online was being shut down.

Touch Me, Buku Buku Chagama (translated as little teapot), Peroronchino, Blue Planet and others are the players' nicknames. They sound funny and cringy to us because they are meant to be but to NPCs created by them, they are gods

About the name "touch me" it's not the full name, the full name is "touch me if you can" when ever you play a game and you find a player named something weird like "your mom" or something like that that's how touch me was like when he played the game

9th tier skil is really powerful in his world and there are tier above this. He change his name to Ainz Oowl Gown so that if his friend from the game is stuck too than they can come and see him after hearing the name.

Context for the magic system. Momonga (now going by Ainz Ooal Gown) uses the level magic system. The level magic system ranks spells by tiers, from rank 1 spells to rank 10 spells. This is inspired by how dnd and pathfinder 2nd edition does its magic. Each rank is stronger than the last with rank 1 spells being the weakest. Each rank of spell is a significant power increase between ranks, pretty much doubling in power. So a 2nd tier spell is twice as strong as a 1st tier spell and so on. When Ainz came out of the portal he uses Grasp Heat a 9th tier spell (his favourite). He said is it didn’t work he would have ran. This explains his cautious mentality. On the next knight he uses a 5th tier spell and remarks how the knight died to. “mere 5th tier spell”. Fun fact about the game which the anime never mentions: The game Yggdrasil had a lot of mechanics and items which were secrete so players had to figure the game out for themselves. This lead to players hoarding secrets knowledge and game mechanics to themselves. One big example of this is Ainz’s class, as he unlocked a secret class due to other class choices. I won’t mention it in detail, to avoid spoilers.

Yep, in the light novel you are told early on that he got rid of his own name and took on the name of his guild to spread it and hopefully bring any other old guild members to him when they hear of it. He isn't certain he is the only one transported to this new world after all.

btw each season of overlord has a mini series of OVA eps that accompanied their respective seasons, those OVA eps its like 8~10 per season, all like 2~3min long and follow the perspective of the battlemaids for most part, those flesh the background a lil bit more out but are mostly for comedic effect. if ya enjoy the show ya want maybe dedicated an extra ep at the end of each season watching all of them in one go before starting the next season e.g. season 1 > OVA S1 eps > season 2 > OVA S2 eps > etc tanya the evil has those too, and ya will notice that these mini eps all have the same artstyle... like isekai quartet does.

As far as I can tell, there are three worlds at play here. Ours, where our protagonist comes from that isn't ever seen, Yggdrassil, the video game where Nazarith and the NPC's within come from, and then a mysterious third world, where the majority of the series takes place. Basically, Through unknown mechanisms, the moment the servers for Yggdrassil went offline, the entire tomb of Nazarith and everyone in it spontaneously appeared in this third world and were granted sentience, where everyone is now essentially stuck. It's unknown whether or not the protagonists 'real body' woke up in our world after the servers shut down and this is a cloned personality, or if his mind somehow got severed from his body as a result of the dimensional shift. Or maybe it's explained later, IDK, but I suppose we'll find out.

Momonga uses name Ainz because pretty much nobody knows him personally. But his guild is unreally famous. Fuck up an enormous raid accounting 1500 players and NPCs of 100 level, is no small achievement

As something to note, Ainz and the Floor Guardians are all level 100. The Pleides(combat maids) are all level 50, though not sure you've met them yet. Most of the other maids are all level 1 but compensate with numbers. Gazef Stronoff is like level 40 or so, and he's considered one of the strongest known in the world, at least among humans anyways.

This anime got me into reading light novels and boy does this chapter go alit heaver than the anime. When Enri sees Ainz for the first time she literally pisses herself in fear. She even considers offering her little sister as a sacrifice to survive. For context of Ainz strength, he is level 100. He's kitted out with God level items. Gazef (the head worrier and one of the strongest humans in the world is level 30). And like proper leveling, I'm terms of power, half way to level 100 is something like 92. Bone daddy is next level. - oh and the death Knight is level weak AF compared to other things Ainz can summon. In answer to some of the confusion and its something none of the series really explain but this world has had players from the game appear throughout its history. Like when the game switched off items and players still logged on were sprinked thought the timeline of this world. When the first players were found here they used a world item to change the way magic works so that they can use magic. They get referred to as the 6 hero's or 6 gods or something.

Man, im reminded how good the voice acting cast in Overlord is.

Basically, we have a REALLY CAUTIOUS skeleton who is way overlevelled for the new world.

Ains Ooal Gown, is the name of the staff that was made by him and his guild-mates yes "the staff of Ains Ooal Gown", it is also the name of their guild and thus why the staff that the members worked hard to make has the guild's name. The tomb of Nazarik is the guild hall of the guild Ains Ooal Gown. Mamonga is the name that he chose as his player name in Yggdrassil that is correct, however he's wanting to see if other players from Yggdrassil are playing as well. Momonga isn't a name that a lot of players would recognize even though he was a guild leader, however Ains Ooal Gown is a name that more players would recognize as it was a large guild in Yggdrassil specifically one of the largest non-human guilds (all members of the guild were required to be non-human races to be able to join the guild). Mamonga chose to use the name Ains Ooal Gown to be able to have a more recognizeable name to those players from Yggdrassil like himself, as there were bound to be other people who like him had stayed on playing right til the last second of the game and were expecting to just be booted out when the clock hit 00:00 just like he expected to be, but instead he got transferred here, it stands to reason that it could have been the same for other players who stayed til the end as well. Even though Ains Ooal Gown was a non-human guild, human guilds would regularly go against them, just like humans going against any "monster" in a video game, basically playing as a non-human and especially not allowing humans in makes you their enemy, most of the players in the guild were evil aligned, even "Touch me" who was the guild leader before Mamonga, though Touch-me played as more a lawful character and never broke from his morals which he also instilled into Sebas Tian when he made him. Aside from all that Mamonga, even in the first episode you can see that he misses his old guildmates the other "supreme beings" that created the NPCs that are the denizens of Nazarik. You'll see even more of this later on when he compares different NPC's actions to those of his old guildmates. Like in the second episode where he mentions Aura and Shaltier arguing with eachother being the same as when Bugabugachagama, and Perroranchino who are their respective creators and siblings arguing with eachother in the same way. Long explination short, Mamonga's player name isn't as recognizeable to other players from Yggdrassil, so he's using the name of his guild Ains Ooal Gown instead as it's more recognizeable to the other players of Yggdrassil. He's wanting to see if someone else from Yggdrassil is around, and also wanting to carry with him the memories and desires of his guildmates, as he's still shouldering the guild even though he's the only one there. Originally the guild was named Nine's own Goal...but as more people joined they changed the guild name to be more inclusive and it became Ains Ooal Gown which is in the language of the Yddgrassil game and translates to One's own Goal, because they were one unit with their goals being interlinked and you should always go after your goals, so it was a very supportive term and something to strive for as such it stayed the name of the guild, around the time of the name change was when Touch-me handed over leadership of the guild to Mamonga, and became one of his primary advisors as a means of keeping the guild together because there were two factions within the guild and Mamonga was able to settle the disagreements between the two. Thus he was made the new guild leader and the leaders of each side became his advisors.

there is a reason for everything, the transportation to the new world and the mixing of power systems, but that is never mentioned in the anime or even the light novels explicitly, I won't say the reason since it would be a mild spoiler before finishing season 1

6:05 I know what you're thinking, and it is never explained in the anime because it only sounds weird in english, but Touch Me is his nickname, his username was Touch_Me_If_You_Can, so everyone just called him Touch Me He was basically the coolest guy ever, a true hero, there were absolutely some weirdos in the guild but he was just trying to make a username that sounded cool

Hello friend, thanks for continuing to react. Some clarifications of the chapter (without spoilers). Originally in the Ygdrassil game there was a character class called "heteromorph", who unlike the humanoid classes, had high starting power and access to many more abilities and immunities, but also weaknesses. Also, one of the drawbacks was that other players could kill heteromorphic players without "penalty", so in the game it became customary to chase them to level up quickly, to the point of almost cyberbullying. Momonga suffered from this until he was saved by his friend Touchme (the creator of Sebas the butler), who introduced him to his first friends and the 9 together founded their own guild under Toucheme's initial leadership. Since all of them were Heteromorphs and only accepted Heteromorphs instead of having other classes to balance better, which initially put them at a disadvantage, they chose a euphemistic name for their guild: NINE'S OWN GOAL. Later, due to the fights between TouchMe and another fellow named Ulbert (creator of Demiurge), Momonga was chosen to take command of the Guild as he was a person everyone got along with. They then changed his name to an anagram of the former, which became AINZ OWN GOAL. That is the explanation of the Name so particular. In the new world where many things don't work exactly like in the game or have completely new functions, that's why it takes Ainz so long to control the Remote Viewing Mirror. That's also why he's surprised that the Death Knight can abandon him, when in the game the summons had to stay a certain distance from the summoner even if they didn't want to. Being a cautious person, Ainz is afraid that the inhabitants of this new world are stronger than him, so he first tries a level 9 spell and then a weaker level 5 spell that could not harm him, but the knights cannot resist any. I take this opportunity to clarify that in the game there were 10 levels of magic plus a level 11 that worked as a special attack and that I will explain later. Level 5 Lightning is very low by the standards of a level 100 player like Ainz. By the way, those guys aren't actually "Knights", but undercover agents from another nation, but I'll go into more detail in the next chapter. Something you should know is that Overlord is not an Anime of Good guys against Bad guys, adventure or conspiracies, although he has a lot of all this. I don't know the correct term because I live in Latin America, but here we say "dark comedy" to a type of story that is basically like those of the Adams Family: There is a world with structured rules, a story that should have gone certain way... And then a bunch of dysfunctional demigods come along and turn everything upside down! The Mask that Ainz wears has some kind of joke in it. In Japan they celebrate Christmas, but they don't do it following any Christian influence, but they copy from afar what they see in the US and that is why it has become a holiday more similar to "Valentine's Day". In the Ygdrassil game, this item was given away on Christmas Day to all players who were online because they "didn't have a date" that night. Hence the euphemistic name of Mask of Envy. Now it is clear that Ainz and his base are not exactly in the Ygdrassil game, but in a different world, although for some reason there seems to be magic and items that existed in the game. The Great Tomb of Nazarick (the name of the base), is located near the border between 3 great nations: The Kingdom, the Empire and the Theocracy. Awesome having you watch Overlord. I recommended it as one of your first anime. Not sure how many you’d watched then. You can find some parallels between Overlord and Slime, but instead of starting off a low level with an OP ability, Overlord starts off with him as basically a god lol. It’s amazing watching the level of threats keep rising and seeing what it takes to deal with them. He’s OP beyond almost anything you can imagine, but he’s not Saitama lol

few things you should know: 1. You're getting confused because you're overthinking a lot. No need to try to figure out all the rules at once. Just focus on what they're showing you and eventually you'll understand everything. 2. Main character is not very heroic. In the game they role played non-human villains. Keeping this in mind will help all his decisions make more sense 3. Momonga never overestimates his abilities. Since the moment he realized that he is in a different world, he is always very cautious. That's why before leaving Nazarick he raised the security to maximum, in case someone attacks the place. He also took fully armored Albedo with him because she's the toughest Tank he has at his disposal. And a mage needs his Tank. He also practices different magic on them to understand how strong they are to know more about this world and it's system 4. The way I'd describe Overlord is that it's like watching an isekaied Addams Family try to take over the world, except they actually kill people occasionally instead of just saying funny dark things. It can get very dark but they are very much a weird, quirky, loving family and that's what makes the show great.

The Death Knight has a generic personality created from Momonga's idea of what a knight should be, even a monster like the Death Knight holds honor as a high ideal so takes the noble trying to literally bribe other to die so he can escape as an insult. That's why he doesn't just kill but torturously kills him. But the knights who stand and fight get a quick death. Also from the novel, anything killed by a Death Knight (who are level 35) can spawn as a level 17 Squire Zombie, though it can only have 3-6 at a time (It seems to be different between 'natural', summoned, and created Death Knights, and Momonga's skill set makes his even stronger.) Death Knights are the ultimate bodyguard and meat shield having a defense 40 but an attack of 25, but the main ability that makes them so is they can survive one attack a day that would have been lethal with a few HP. With a Necromancer like Momonga this makes them really hard to kill as he can bolster and heal other undead.

information to grasp heart (can't remember if it was mentioned in the anime) it's an instant death spell. so it doesn't deal damage like the dragon lightning. the spell instantly kills the target. of course there are ways to be immune to that and I think at a certain level you are automaticially immune. BUT if the spell doesn't kill you, you get a stun debuff

He’s OP as hell and has thousands of skills. He’s been transported into a real isekai world. So have many of the players that stayed for the server shutdown but other players were transported hundreds of years before him. Timey Wimey Stuff. So he’s OP no other player can stop him.

a 9th tier spell is basically one of the top tier spells.. spells have tier from 1st-10th tier being 10th tier the highest. there's also the super tier spells which is above the tenth tier. tho super tier are more of a skill than spell in nature. edit: in the new world, the highest people can achieve is 4th tier and that's only if they have talent for it. Some exceptions are those who have lived more than a century and can only barely touch 5th-6th tier.

The fake name he uses is the name of his former game guild. Since it was well-known, he expects other former players like him to pick up and go meet him.

Back in the Game Ygdrassil not "EVERYONE" knew the guild Ainz Ooal Gown... but not everyone knew every individual player that belonged to it... so by changing his name he will spread the AOG name which everyone knows and he is expecting players from his world who re in this one like him to react to the name... that is why he changed his name...

Death knights is level 30 if I remember right. Feels low when max is 100. That's just how insane Ains is!

So, from what manga readers have pieced together, spell levels are more or less like OD&D spell levels. Which is broken af. And Ains is a full on god made mortal. The world they are in is… basically a land where apprentices are considered masters haha

Well you have to recall that the 'Higher beings' were just gamers. So a character named Touch Me isn't so unusual. Although as you saw in the flashback. The funny thing about his name is that other players couldn't 'touch him' because he was such a badass. Also that touches on something I was going to point out in the first episode about Yggdrasil, but the comment became to long. So the short version. The reason those players were ganging up on Ainz is because Inhumans races could be attacked like NPC monsters without any penalty. Giving gold, experience and even unlocking skills for certain job classes depending on how many inhumans the player had killed. I know that might sound BS, but there were pros and cons to playing any of the three race types. Humanoid, Demi-human and inhuman. Inhumans for example started with much higher stats, get greater bonuses from leveling race and could evolve into stronger versions of their race. Ah You finally noticed it. The reason his internal voice and external voice are different is so you can tell them apart easily. Since he doesn't need to move his skull to talk.

Just to give you an idea of something, Death Knight's are level 35 but possess the defense of a level 40 and the offense of a level 25. In order for someone to solo a death knight they would need to be around level 45 or higher.

Grasp of Heart is Momonga`s fave spell. If enemy is weak, it will kill. If enemy is strong then it will weaken him

The name Ainz Ooal Gown is the name of their clan and I believe at the time the number 1 guild for the game. So if he spreads the name. People may know it if they are from the same world.

15:24 that thing, the death knight is a lvl40 defensive monster, they're the tanky bait you summon to protect yourself while you cast magic, basically fodder. so yeah, as a level 100 necromancer he can summon a bunch of those. The story itself is adapted from a novel, the game itself has an intricate class system based on DnD. The lore is quite deep, the characters are interesting and the story is quite dark. The anime cut off most of that sadly. The main difference between the anime and novel is that in the novel, the pov character is rarely Ainz/Momonga and his guild. You usually follow the story from the pov of other characters, so they're all quite fleshed out. More on that as you progress the episodes, for now, enjoy and have fun
