Overnight camping in an SUV | Tata Harrier | Overlanding

I love cars and my ultimate dream is to go on an Overlanding trip. However, to test the waters, I tried overnight camping in the Tata Harrier. In this video, I'll walk you through:
1. How we finalised the camp spot
2. What our sleeping setup was like
3. Our overall experience at the camp
4. Experience sleeping in the car
Please share your comments and thoughts with me. Which car do you think is best to do this without a lot of modifications?

I think the harrier may have fold-flat seats so if you do it that way you won’t have that bump when you fold the back seats down. The entire back will be perfectly flat.

Do you mean, lifting up/removing the seat base? It might work but them storing the seat base away becomes an issue. We kept all our luggage on the front seat so there was no space for the seat base. However, if this works, the Harrier will be near perfect for sleeping.

Hi, Sure. I'll try it out. The XUV500 had really nice setup with flat folding seats, haven't had a chance to check the XUV700 yet:)

Hi, This was also a safe spot as the camping ground owner suggested this place to us. However, people could get in as it wasn't fenced.

Nice vlog, and your video entices me to camp with my Harrier. You should have used a air bed, that would have made the floor flat and comfortable.

Nope, these are stock headlights, I think. This was not the top trim, if that helps. Btw, this was a rental from MyChoize so I'm not 100% sure. But from what I remember, no projectors in this variant. I hope that helps:)

Great video bro! Was it not possible to change the direction of sleep position with feet towards the driver seat. I guess your legs could have been rested on top of the uneven second row folded seat. Also since you are close to 6 feet and your legs could be extending outside the folded seat. Still, that would be better off than legs getting blocked by space crunch. Please do let me know as I have plans to buy the Harrier and also want to double it up as a camping vehicle, I m around 6 ft 1 inch tall.

Hi, thanks for the compliment bro :) 1. To be honest I didn't think about sleeping with the feet towards driver seat. That's a great idea! 2. Also we were two people in the car so sleeping with head towards the driver seat gave us extra shoulder room. Please see 2:15 for the layout. 3. If you are planning to buy the Harrier, I'd suggest that you put a plywood sheet on top of the boot floor to make it level with the rear seat. This, combined with your idea of sleeping with the feet towards the driver seat, will be a great setup.

11:28 overall night sleep got screwed...u cant sleep in the back of car without having made some good modification. Looks like a very isolated location

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. The place was isolated but not unsafe. It was a registered campsite, but not fenced, which is why a few folks walked in. Also, I rented this car, so couldn't make any modifications to it. But it was a testing ground for my long term goal:)

People simply do not have the common sense of camping courtesy here in India. I mean if you see someone already camping in a spot and fast asleep at 4 am, why the f would you camp in the same spot. On top of that play loud music? THE WHOLE POINT OF CAMPING IN AN OFF BEAT LOCATION IS TO EXPERIENCE THE SILENCE AND CALMNESS. I mean F me dead mate. Sorry that you had to experience that, and I don't know when will people develop a courteous mindset. 🙏🏼 BTW, I've never seen anyone bake pizzas while camping. Haha so bizarre, but something I would try in the future.

Haha, thanks mate for your kind words. Maybe the other folks didn't notice me sleeping in the car, the window line is quite up in the Harrier and it was dark. But you are right, playing music loudly in the middle of the night affects the animals in the surrounding as well. Do try the pizzas and let me know how it goes :P

Is your harrier xma camo. How did you manage to buy one? I called and tata guys told me. They have only 2 colors. White and red. Please help me with this. Malpractice with them is not new. Please be safe next time. Good place, bad place. Its about bad people. Nice review. Take care. Good luck.

Hi Prasad, This Harrier was a rental from MyChoize. It was a 2019 XM model in Grey color (not the Camo). I hope this helps :)

Sir, is this legal to use black number plate on cars?

Hi, This was actually a Self Drive rental from MyChoize. I don't own this car:) I believe the rules for plates are: 1. White : Private 2. Yellow plates with black font : Commercial 3. Black plates with yellow font: Commercial Self drive However, government recently allowed regular licences on Yellow plates as well. So you would see a lot of self drive cars on Yellow plates as well.

Hi @@vishmaster123 , My experience with Mychoize has been ~70% positive. However, both the times I rented the Harrier, it was great. The car was clean and in good condition mechanically as well (something Zoomcar doesn't give these days). I have had a few bad experiences with Mychoize for i10 and Innova rentals but overall it's positive. The best experiences I've had were with Revv. Their cars are neat and clean, and also in great mechanical condition. Had other issues with them, but the car has always been in top shape.

How can you risk your and your family safety like this, really strange. The people could have been anybody and they could harm you to steal your car very easily. I don’t think its a wise decision what you guys did. In India it is very normal what I said above and it can happen with anybody.

Hi Hemant, That's a fair point. This place we had selected was a camp ground and the owner stays close to it. There is an element of risk but we felt it was limited given the proximity to the owner.
