who the heck watches the "mainstream"? Surely just over 75's. I've tried watching it and it's unwatchable. Just ludicrous "breaking news" sandwiched in between pharma adverts.

This would have actually been enjoyable if it weren't for that one dude hooting and hollaring everytime a joke was even attempted. Seriously, how does an audience member like that remain on a show this established and supposedly well produced?
It seems off putting for Maher as well. The show is live, which means if they want to throw anybody out, it takes time and may not give a good 'look'. But, at the same time, it was distracting and annoying.
@@petesmittrelax there my rather Po faced uptight friend. Nobody else referenced "boastworthy" except you. OP simply jokingly pointed out that Bill couldn't relate.
Dear stage manager. Please shut the audience up and let the guests speak. The fake whooping is doing nothing but annoying viewers and interrupting the flow of serious conversation.
I watched the episode when it aired, these obnoxious assholes kept hooting and guffawing during the entire show. Was kind of expecting Bill to kick them out during the monologue
Yes, I noticed the guffawing while listening to the podcast version. It seemed louder than usual and was enough for me to notice. Seeing all the comments, now I know I’m not the only one who found it annoying.

Yes, it's been there for a while, but seems to get worse every year. It's like an unholy mix of sitcom and late night talk show. It really feels forced to make Bill look good, kind of pathetic 🤷
I thought the same. that or the show was videoed in a synagogue. One sided cheering for Bill and the one next to him. No cheering for the historical truth of the situation from Matt Duss.

@@hectormartinez9657 You definitely aren’t the only one to notice it, and it’s not new. It’s pretty much every episode for a long time now. I started noticing it during Covid and those voices are all pretty much the same from one episode to the next.
What a bonus to have this panel discussion be continued into Overtime. Real Time and Mr. Maher couldn't have picked two more engaging and knowledgeable guests to discuss current events in Israel.
They guy in the beard has zero knowledge, he is a Hamas supporter and doesn't care children were burned alive screaming in sheer terror. Leftists are absolutely disgusting Nazis.
Bill, when are you going to get an audience that doesn`t act like they are at a WWE event. One person applauds and the audience explodes and whoops it up. It`s worse than canned laughter
It is hard to say because when the terrorists are underground even with all the advance technology, even any intelligence agency does not have all the surveillance. Mossad who when after it was formed went out to kill every Nazi member in hiding, if even they don’t have this surveillance of when and where. That is something to worry about. This is not like before 9/11 where the CIA knew the terrorists were here and did not inform the FBI until they lost surveillance and decided to inform the FBI.
He's a reporter, foreign correspondent, author, and columnist. So, he's dressed-up like a typical writer. (Although, if I was a dude on Bill's show, I'd wear a suit & tie, etcetera.)
Respect to Matt Duss for keeping it real, and adding some nuance to the discussion. Bill's (and his other guest's) view is way to simplistic on this issue. To be revolted by Israels actions over recent years is not the same as supporting Hamas. It's deliberate divide and conquer, and the settlements are but one facet of it. It didn't look like he was having much fun, but thanks.
Their actions to survive as a state you mean? Israeli gave Gazans a place to settle despite the danger to their own people (which given this event couldn't more clear). THeir own Muslim brother countries won't let them settle anywhere and now you and Duss give moral equivalency to killing innocent people as a war tactic and a kidnapping children as shield. Yes a much nuanced approach to being a complete moron.
Up early Saturday dealing with computer work & watch on HBO followed by here on RU-vid. Thank you Bill for all you do to explain the week and to give us a few things to laugh about after this tough week. Great guest & great panel.
Another reason Israel was caught off guard is because of Netanyahu's assault on Israels legal norms. He was warned, the military was distracted and he bares some responsibility.
Absolute nonsense. The Israeli supreme court is far far more powerful than any other in the world, and they took this power for themselves in the 90s. Parliament did not give it to them. So it is the court that broke the legal norms, and Netanyahu wants to bring it back in line with every other liberal democracy. Those who oppose the reform are objectively far right.
Exactly. Egypt warned them 3 days prior to the attack that something was afoul. NetanYAHOO had little to no government structure in place. He has been in office since Dec. He was too busy attempting to destroy Isreal's democratic court system. There were thousands and thousands of military reserves in the streets threatening to resign, along w hundreds of thousands of Irealis. The leaders of Hamas had visited Russia and met w Sergi Lavrov twice in the last year. Putin and Iran were partners in this destruction.
This was one of the best shows and guests, a professional debate, no name calling, it's important to hear two different sides, bill let them debate, glad the show is back
Ya, I mostly like Kirchick, but he wasn't trying to have a debate here, he picked a side and ran with it. The other guy was noble in his attempt to have a nuanced debate, and was constantly talked over by his and Maher's overly emotional one sided argument.
@@jeffreycharles4211 He wasn't trying to have a "nuanced debate" he realized he would get slaughtered if he touted his normal "isreal bad, west bad, 3rd world muslim dictatorships good" narrative in an environment with actual counter facts, so like said muslim dictatorships he played moderate for your benefit.
@@janehrahan5116 and you totally missed the point lol. He explained his point of view in a very clear manner, and it was none of what you just lied about it being. Criticism of Israel's actions does not equal being pro-Hamas. That's such a dishonest, disingenuous argument.
Matt Duss was pretty damn good on this ep. Hope more outlets have him on. He is probably the best person to both condemn hamas and provide historical context to the region.

The sad part is that I believe there are many Palestinians who object to Hamas and could help Israel to fight against that ideology, but over the years the relationship between these two cultures has not been cultivated and nurtured.
Indeed...many Palestinians don't like hamas, but it's their only line of security, so many voted them in. Kind of like so many people voting for Trump buy don't even like him that much. Also got to remember that hamas members are not all Palestinians...they're made up of various nationalities.
It is all on Hamas the same way it is all on Putin. Ukraine is not at fault, Putin is for brainwashing and controlling his population just like Hamas. Except Hamas is funnily enough many times worse.
This was a refreshing episode, not for the subject matter, but the way that it was addressed. For me, it was not nearly as humorous, as I am inclined to look for when I want to watch Bill. But that was because of the current situation. And it also gave me reason to think about my own situation and the level of isolation. I have self imposed. Not because I can’t go anywhere without scrolling through my phone. But more because I find interacting with a lot of my fellow Americans, a lot less attractive with the number of Trump supporters, I encounter. I know I have a serious problem with my filter when interacting with people who I have found to support ideologies and politicians that I find disgusting. So the only way I find for me too not get into a knock down drag out fight is to not interact with them. But kudos Bill for the best show you have put out in the last six months. (See I haven’t lost my sense of humor.)
So I disagree with the Trump crowd as well . However it is the over whelping proportion of people I talk with on social media . I do so because we have to interact with those whom we disagree. The other reason is I doubt I have changed any minds but every once in a while I can find common ground . The other thing too , is not to disparage everything about Trump . He did some things I agree with . I would encourage you to talk too them . Yes you will be frustrated , but you will find there is a reoccurring theme , and you can break through it

the first time I've entered a Maher episode into my never watch again category solely because of Bill and not a guest. I think him and Dumbo are gonna get naked, put on suit jackets and go to Club Random to get drunk and cheer the bombing runs.
This is not new; it's been well over 5 years. Started when his Millennial audiences back then were so purist about cancel culture and started to boo him during segments of his shows because they found one of his jokes "in bad taste". It just started to grow and grow and he began knocking his extra-sensitive audience -- which I agreed with at the time. But then it developed into a cancer in Bill where he turned practically authoritarian and associated all progressives as "bad" and full of shit like his sensitive Millennials. That's the dime-store version of the story.
If Palestine will not accept a deal with their land split in half, would Israel accept their land split in half? I think the one state solution is the only one that makes sense because both Israel and Palestine both have historical valid claims to the same land. Where is King Salmon when you need him?
I think Israel’s claim to land is questionable based on the mass exodus of the Jewish people out of Eastern Europe after WWII so not sure how they have the right to claim it’s their land. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m not so sure; I.e., the Bush Jr. Admin had everybody fooled about the pressing need to invade Iraq; during the course of that 9/11 revenge spirited wrong turn, Americans voted to retain the entire cabal, regardless of how wrong it was. People tend to stick to, NOT firing the Coach sometimes, methinks it’s fear of changing the Chairman. It is ambiguous to me, but it could go that way again.
This week these people are experts on Israel/Palestine....last week they were experts on the Ukraine. Before that they were experts in science and Covid.
Reminding people Bibi helps keep Hamas in power should be on every program discussing this issue. You didn`t discuss this. Harvard students over reacted because of Isreal`s terrible treatment of the Palestinians. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THE LEFT`S VIEW!
The PLO and Arafat not taking that deal is the one thing that exposes them as not wanting peace under any circumstances. There is blame on both sides but that point in history is glaring.
I guess. But Israel started it all back when they were founded. There were people on that land, and they were forcibly removed. Now, responding to this by sawing the heads off of babies....well.
Watched the full show, and probably learned more from this conversation on this topic than I had in 50 years of life beforehand. That said, it does kind of show the situation for what it is. And sadly that is a problem that simply will not stop. Both sides (and as covered here it is not everyone in the populations, but those with power) do not appear to want to solve the problem peacefully, they appear to want the destruction of the other. Tragic, truly tragic.
The problem is occupation. No human has gotten rid of their oppressor marching or with flowers. They had to die for it. Power concedes nothing, you have to take it. Slave revolts were more bloody than this and slaves were also called animals by the same racist mindset, as if the slaves just woke one day mad. USSR soldiers were killed by the millions trying to liberate humanity. People just expect the oppressed to roll over and die. The Natives preferred death rather than live in oppression. That's why the majority of this country doesn't know any indigenous peoples. Israel is trying to normalize the same insanity and many of you are embracing this racist colonial/settler mindset. It's legal to resist when occupied. Many of you clearly understand it when it's white people in Ukraine resisting. They are also committing war crimes as well. Hamas is subject to the same rules of engagement and can the be prosecuted for war crimes when targeting civilians like Israel. Guess why they never prosecute them? Like the lies that got us into the 1st Gulf War, which I was front and center to see (5th/158th Aviation in Germany - my unit went), they also spread propaganda about babies being taken out of incubators. The reality, Kuwait was slant drilling into Iraq. Western people accept lies easily. No wonder the West is great targets for online scams. The population has been effectively dumbed down.

I found Matt Duss to be interesting, most of his responses seemed to be long forum which isn't the best for Real Time but would come across better on a podcast
Thankfully, Matt was there to steer the ship back on course. Most Americans need to start thinking about politics in context, not soundbites. They were discussing an issue containing a lot of angles & subtleties, many of which neither Bill, nor James, knew squat about. Additionally, Bill typically gets nervous, even dismissive, when somebody on the panel is smarter than he is...Russell Brand comes to mind.
Yeah, weird that Bill can't even humor that analogy. I think when people were reading Tolkien or watching the movies, he was passed out drugged out of his mind.
@anthonystevens7594 The difference? Democrats want people like him to resign. Give me examples of the gop asking people to resign for whatever they do. For Trump, there's no law or the constitution, that they would betray him for
it's a logical assumption, but i dont' think they have any actual intelligence confirming it. i could be wrong, unlike the orange man, these ppl can protect their sources. otoh, this whole, 'money is fungible' assumes iran was actually spending money on humantarian aid to its ppl. i think it's much more likely they have been spending that money on Hamas anyway, so actually buying humanitarian aid for iranians won't free up any money.
More reasons to dislike Netanyahu: His hard line may have pushed/provoked Hamas; his hubris prevented him from anticipating what he had provoked; and his dishonesty caused him to blame others instead of apologizing. He continues to be poison.
Bill, PLEASE have your producers make a quick announcement before taping that if you over laugh, hoot and holler JUST so that you can go back to your mother's basement bedroom, replay the show and tell no-one..."that's me, the banshee" you will be asked to leave.
