We have an OXO Brew 9-Cup machine and have been using it daily for over three years with no issues. My son and I find that it makes a wonderful cup. It is a no fuss machine, just pick the amount of water you need to use and hit start. We use the Melitta #4 bamboo filters and then put the filter and grounds in our compost. Recently we got a Baratza Encore grinder and that upped our game a lot. The first beans that I bought was a can of medium roast Illy beans and it made our best brew to date. We have a lot of roasters nearby so we have a huge variety of coffees to choose from. We even have a Yemini coffee shop near us who is an importer from Yemin. OXO has great customer service BTW. I dropped the carafe and it no longer had an insulating vacuum. I looked on the OXO website but could not see how to buy a replacement. Contacted OXO and asked how I could buy a replacement and they told me to send a copy of my receipt and the serial number and they would send me a replacement for free which they then did.

@@michaelmarquez6133 I do recommend it! I've had it for over a year and it's still performing well. Paid about $160. Easy to clean. I bought one bottle of descaling solution for deep cleaning. For the single cup basket, I've used size 2 melitta style filters and depending on the grind size I didn't notice much difference in taste from the Kalita filters. The carafe works really well, stays hot for 2-4hrs in my experience.

I purchased the Bonavita 8 cup exactly like this one. Best coffee maker I ever had. Best tasting coffee. Only problem it stopped working. Only had it for 7 months. Emailed receipt to see if they will send me a replacement coffee maker. Haven’t heard back yet . Hopefully they will.

We have had the bonavita for several years. It brews very good coffee but has flaws that have led me to purchase the OXO yesterday. The worst flaw of the bonavita is the hinge mechanism in the lid is ridiculously under engineered and breaks even with careful use. If you use the thumb shaped end to secure the lid, as the gentleman in the video did, it will break soon. If you use the spout end to screw the lid down, it will break later. Had the first lid replaced under warrantee but now, even with careful , gentle use, our replacement has also broken. The cause is the hinge pivots on tiny plastic pins inside the lid. The second major flaw of the BV is that without the lid, the carafe is impossible to pour without dribbling all over. This means every time you fill the machine with water, you will spill some. Every. Last. Time. It is laughable how badly it pours. So the lid, even broken, is necessary. After no word from bonavita about another replacement lid, I bought the OXO.

After many many months of trying to decide, I almost went with Bonavita then stumbled on the OXO, saw the CNET review and pulled the trigger on the OXO. Just got it yesterday but already loving it! The ability to brew a single cup is great, and beat out the Bonavita for me. Plus all the complaints about the Bonavita carafe.... Pro tip, I think you can also brew straight into the carafe on the OXO with the lid off by switching to the 'single cup' side. For those that don't want to brew hot liquid directly onto a plastic lid.

@johncooper2790
@johncooper2790 2 года назад
@Logan M. Elliott It is really worth it. The Oxo brewer is CNETs favorite coffee machine. There are discounts available on the Oxo brewer. Even a somewhat decent coffee machine will cost close to $100 but will result in bad coffee. I paid $125 for the Oxo 8 cup machine on a sale. The difference in quality between my old machine and the Oxo is unbelievable! Regarding pre-ground canned coffee, I don't recommend using it. The flavors will be lost right after you open the can. Instead, buy a good burr grinder, which should last10 to 20 years and cost uowards of around $70 after discounts. I am really happy with my Oxo grinder. There are many other excellent grinders. Definitely do your research. Another key point is to grind your beans right before you brew your coffee. You can buy whole bean coffee for about the same price per pound as canned coffee if you buy the whole beans from a wholesale club. Warning: Following these suggestions will will lead to amazing gourmet coffee every day! ☕

I've had the Bonavita for a couple of years, and though the coffee is good, the HORRIBLE carafe design (an interior lip at the top and a very shallow spout that makes pouring awkward) still drives me nuts. Impossible to pour without the lid on tightly, and not all the coffee comes out. They no longer make a glass carafe for the 8-cup Bonavita, which is what I was able to use before to avoid the stainless carafe flaw. About to switch to the Oxo instead. Thanks for the helpful review!

Just purchased the OXO last week and so far it`s been great.Ironically I still had the Gold Tone metal filter for the 2 failed Bonavita`s,the 1st one the beeping would not shut off and was warrantied.The second unit completely failed just barley out of warranty and Bonavita would not replace it and at the time there was no service center available.They failed to stand behind their product.The past several years we've been F/P and percolating our coffee and hope the OXO works out.BTW before Bonavita we had a Zojirushi for 5-7 years.Stay away from the poorly built Bonavita and their lousy customer service.

Funny the tiny design issues that can make it or break it. My new OXO (replacing my older model Bonavita) wouldn’t easily slide from the corner under my cabinet to my sink, making it hard to move. It was driving me nuts. I turned it over, popped out the 4 rubber feet & replaced them with small, sticky felt chair leg pads.Voila! Problem solved! It’s now much more user-friendly for me..

I chose the Bonavita for my partner, to replace her terrible Mr. Coffee, because it fits under her cabinets including when the water reservoir door is open. The height of devices can be a major consideration. She does pour-over on the weekend, but she loves the quality of brew and simplicity of the Bonavita. I’m sure the Oxo is very nice as well, but it wouldn’t have fit under her cabinets.

I have only had my OXO 8 a week, and I am not gonna lie, I am not sure I like it. I think the recommended 1 scoop of coffee to one cup of 5 oz water makes for some weak brew and I have made a huge mess every time I have tried to fill the filter up with 10 scoops to get it stronger. Gonna order some 14 cup filters on line and see if that fixs things. But at the moment this is more like a 30 oz coffee maker if you want a strong cup. And, I use quality/strong beans. That is not the issue.

When you poured the coffee into the cups you confirmed one of reasons why I bought the Bonavita. My old coffee maker dripped all over the place like the Oxo did. Big reason why it’s gone. I’m not saying my new 5 cup Bonavita is perfect, but much better than my old 4 cup Cuisinart which dripped all over the place. Less acidity is good for my tastebuds as well.

@pbakai182
@pbakai182 2 года назад
bonavita's pre-infusion mode is a half-assed version of Blooming the coffee grounds. their machines simply slow down the introduction of water at the start, allowing the grounds to degas. the correct way would be to add 1/3rd of the water into the grounds and *holding* that water there for a period of ~45s before draining the water into the carafe.

The Amazon reviews seem to indicate a lot more build quality issues with the Bonavita. Any feedback from users here on that?
@iamalandstander
@iamalandstander 3 года назад
I bought an OXO and found the build quality better than most coffee makers at this price point. The Bonavita's units are flimsy by comparison. Bonavita's makers are a frame of thin plastic with the metal snapped onto it. Removing the top for cleaning flexes the whole machine and stresses thin plastic tabs. If you get the glass carafe version, the glass is really thin, the design uniquely built by Bonavita and expensive to replace WHEN you break them. OXO's 8-cup is made of thick hunks of plastic, like just about everything else OXO makes. It seems remarkably solid. I rally have no idea what the Amazon complaints are about.

Ima Landstander ..Funny-ish story..my older model Bonavita had a carafe lined with glass. It was prone to exploding when not in use & for no apparent reason..they voluntarily sent out replacement carafes. @kalywi12
@kalywi12 3 года назад
No, the water levels are 4,6 & 8 cups and the basket sits right on top of carafe, it wouldn't sit securely on top of a cup. But you could do the 4 cup and that would give you 10 ounces of coffee or you could halve the 4 cup by just eyeing the water level.
@paulkabbash4106
@paulkabbash4106 3 года назад
Yes! My Hario V60 (size 02) drippers completely surround all of the holes in the Bonavita Connoisseur. I use a 14oz coffee cup, so I measure water at 12oz, plus an extra "smidge" which will be lost as steam. I place the coffee cup on a few cork trivets to make the dripper almost touch the hot water shower. My ceramic dripper gives coffee at around 172 degrees, and the (way more expensive) copper one always seems to add an extra 5 degrees.

@@shinzman87 Brewing with a lower temp just decreases extraction, over extraction is why you were getting bitterness. I prefer to brew with water just off boiling and let the grind size be the determining force in extraction.
