Oztent RV5 Review 

A fourth target audience for the RV tents in my opinion is the solo traveller, because of the ease of setting it up solo.

Thanks for the honest, practical review. One thing i would have probably skipped if i purchase one would be the floor piece for under the awning - your recommendation to get one makes a lot of sense.

I have had my RV5 for 12plus years and it is still my favourite (also have hiking tent, swagger, 2 x swags, 3 sizes of wild camp awnings and a camper trailer 🥲). I leave the fly on permanently and use the RV5 option when 4wd is close and2 of us, or staying more than 2 nights. Good review

Very happy with my rv3plus. I also have the 2 side panels which for me are worth the added expense. They help keep bad weather out, while offering good ventilation, and add privacy if you want it. Very easy to install too. I don't see a need for a front panel, I prefer to leave the front open for the views and for cooking.

Great review of features, pros and cons! And you are now officially an enabler! I did not know that there was a fly available to fit this tent (I own one that gets attached to my Batwing when extra friends come along) so I just placed an order for one...(OzTent should give you a bit of credit for that sale! Great review mate, had the full set up myself with peaked side panels / front panel about 8 years ago and loved it. In the end had to move it on purely due to the packed length and weight. Purchased the Jet Tent f30x with all panels (by Oztent) which had it's pros for walk in head room but again cons due to packed down weight & 1500mm length. Between the two I owned a Darche AT6 Air Volution but it was MASSIVE and a real pain in the ar$e to put up particularly on my own or even with two people. All these tents were overkill for me and the Mrs so hence we all now looking at the smaller Darche AT4 for a much simpler set up and pack down but I must say I really miss the ease of putting up and packing down an RV / RX Oztent so perhaps we may return in the future. Anyway great video, will be sure to check out that spot if anywhere down in VIC should we get there someday, it looks magic! Little inside scoop for you in return being from Brisbane check out Teewah or Freshwater in Cooloola NP (just across the river to Noosa Northshore from Tewantin) miles and miles of beach to explore. It's the gateway to Fraser Island without the huge costs involved of going over from Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point) or Hervey Bay. Anyway if you are ever up this way with your young family check it out it's the most cost effective beach 4WD / Camping experience to have in SE QLD and its one of the best spots you'll ever explore. Not only that the you'll have heaps of beach to drive well past 3 hours either side of tide and its not thick and boggy dry sand that you'll get at our other well known sand beach 4WDriving hot spots of Moreton Island, Bribie Island and Fraser (K'gari) Just word of warning avoid peak times of school holidays in particular Easter / Xmas as it's a carpark! Mid week outside of school holidays (March - mid May) or early October - early December) is best. Mate if you want more info don't hesitate to reach out as I enjoy helping fellow sensible campers out where I can with local knowledge. Have a good one 👍

have had one for 10 years will zip fly on for first time this year to preserve roof , bullet proof in storms ( cyclones ) , only guyed out twice

The front awning rolls up like you did not designed to zip down the front, that’s for the side walls. To clean/dry the bottom when packing up, whilst the tent is still up, flip it onto the door side. The frame is flat and allows you to dry out the bottom

Thanks for your video mate! I have 2 x RV5 tents and just love them! Kids in one, wife and I in the other - works a treat! I agree that the only real negative is the awkward size. Thankfully I have a Patrol with a full-size roof rack which holds them no problem. Greetings from South Africa

We stick a fishing bell on and around our zips overnight. I do a lot of fishing and very tuned to the noise

Easy to dry the underside. Get it home, pop it up in 30 seconds and flip it onto the front face. Just remember to peg it down!

Terrific review, thanks a lot, helped me decide on which model I wanted to buy. Went for an RX5 in the end due to the zip in flooring. I really would like one of those spreader bars for the fly sheet but am finding it hard to stomach $60 shipping to Victoria for a $45 tent pole 😆 ☘

Great review and answered so many of my questions. Would you consider it useful to back a 4x4 up to the awning to give shelter for cooking or to keep dry when accessing stuff from the rear of the vehicle? Enjoy your family camping guys you look to have a great set up😊 my question is because my use is for the UK and Europe where sadly the weather is as I am sure you know to be colder and wetter than in Aus😢

Nice review mate!! I’ve got the RX-5 but interested to k ow more about the ‘crab spreader pole’ would the spreader pole not go on the underside of the fly like the awning ones? I’ve found when windy the fly can be a bit flappy/noisy. Also what were the awning poles you got? That’s really good you can peg them down, recently had the awning skipping around in heavy winds! Hello there, quick question. In hot summer night, I felt like fly stopping air circulation. If you dont use tent in day time is there any other point other than protecting it?

Cheers for the detailed review! I'm keen to know if the RV5 still suits your needs with two kids? Mine are 1 and 4, so the tent is no use to me if the whole family (and I guess luggage) doesn't fit. Also, any issues with setting it up on sand?

Excellent review. I really like the look of these tents but 2m packed! That's no good for me. I want something that will fit in the wagon, seats up. Back to the drawing board 🤔

Mate just wondering if its cheaper to get the extra spreader poles from say BCF instead of getting the drifta kit? The drifta kit is $230

Great review. Probably the best one I’ve watched. I’m considering it. Hopefully you can help me to take a decision. I have a 1,5 year old son, and I was thinking on a rooftop tent for aloud 4x4 adventures, but I find the OZTent very convenient for my needs. Of course both the rtt and the OZTent have its pros & cons. I really like the rtt way, but now I’m not sure if the oz tent will fit better my needs. What do you think? Thanks!
