Assuming the thing was built and serviced somehow with a heaping dose of somehow working artillery, bombing and concentrated fire would kill it quickly. Any of the three would kill it. The arty simply would hammer it and causing spalling and eventually break armor through the stresses involved well after the crew had been rendered into a salsa. Bombing would likely occur with a antistructure bomb like the grand slam which would either pen and kill it over go off on the roof and make everyone inside very very dead. And concentrated fire would take some time but eventually parts would begin to buckle and crack before finally the armor fails but first crew will end up shredded by shrapnel. To be honest as a conventional tank the P.1000 would realistically be useless overall.

Pretty much. Nothing on the ground has a realistic chance of killing a tank this massive. Problem is that mobility is a foreign concept to the Ratte, they’re stupid expensive and losing one is one hell of a loss.

​@@spartanonxywell the Rate has enough Armor that most common artillery wouldn't even budge it. The only thing that could would be bombers, and that's because they can drop the bombs through the roof of the turret.

@@Cesp43 Sure one or two or even a hundred shells might not kill it. But physics says hit it often enough and hard enough and it will fail full stop eventually. Just the deformation of the plates from hundreds of shells landing would render it all but unusable top that off with the structural failures that would occur from plates buckling and eventually collapsing and it is literally just a mobile target. Bombers just get to go straight from hit it enough to killing it. Now to be fair rarely with man portable stuff is the destruction by volume method a valid option but at this scale? Yeah it really is especially when you are polite enough to put lots of expensive resources and manpower all in one place.

no, the armor specifications on the P1000 would be between 150mm and 360mm of armor, it would've taken a mid-cold war era tank to even penetrate its armor, it also would've had 40+ crew, etc etc, this thing would be painful to fight even for some cruisers. the only things (within its domain) that would probably knock it out in the second world war would be medium or heavy bombers

the ratte would be unstoppable with like 4 veteran tigers to cover the blindspots, and recon.

T34 84 and kv1 could not have hoped to pen the armour no matter the situation and well i doubt the t34 would even see it

Now that we have better armor, lighter as well, and more advanced offensive and defensive systems maybe revisiting these monsters is possible. Imagine one or 3 of them using missiles, and anti-air systems for protection covering an attack delivering long range artillery and missile barrages on the enemy defenses. Slow, sure, but deadly effective at probably half their weigh I think. The only thing preventing them from being considered is the immense power needed to move them I think, so the same problem they had back then still exists.

Theoretically, if the nazis would have decided to build a thousand of these abominations, this would mean that they would have needed roughly one megaton of steel. In material alone that's roughly as much as all Panzer III (~5.800), Tiger I and II (~1.800), as well as all Panther tanks (~6.000) and all StuG III armoured fighting vehicles (~11.400) combined. Taking into account that some of the tanks were made from recycled material it would be safe to say that you would have to add the ca. 8.600 Panzer IV tanks to the pot. But even if that's not the case: This comparison alone (and taking into account that military production went as fast as it could so that Germany had as much tanks as they possibly could have) means you can either have 1.000 overly heavy, extremly clumsy, rolling forts that will destroy every road they drive on, cannot cross bridges and surely can't maneuver through difficult terrain without damaging themselves or getting stuck. Or you can have about 25.000 tanks and other AFVs giving you a lot of maneuverability. I don't even know if gravity would have allowed these monsters to drive over large gaps (like trench systems or Dragon's teeth) without cracking here and there. And don't forget that you have to fuel them. They would have been the perfect target for air raids because there's no way in hell you could hide a P.1000. The Allies wouldn't even have needed to attack the Ratte itself. Bombing every fuel truck in the perimeter would have been enough.

Even then it’s so heavy it can’t move anywhere and bombers can easily target it it’s powerful just not mobile

They would be able to perform for instance a similar situation the Bismarck took over 200 direct hits from allied Navy ships main guns alone never mind smaller cannons aircraft strafing and bombing over the day with the crew still being able to scuttle the ship to prevent capture only after the rudder was disabled because there was no possible port it could go for repairs
