Considering Naoki's cred and the fact Bandai produced this... it's disappointing that its more aesthetic mods, rather than function improvements. Still glad to have it in my backlog, as Kampfer is def one of my favorite designs!
Of course it's mostly just aesthetic modifications. They weren't going to heavily modify the frame of a kit that old. The Dom was an exception because it's inner frame was already good. Not to mention it was always a big bulky suit so extreme posing was never what people expected. A new Kampfer would be fantastic, but with how MG kits have been going lately I didn't have a hint of expectations about an updated standard Kampfer.
This was my first kit I've built using the old frame with screws. For a first time it was interesting, but I can already see that I much prefer the build process of the newer kits. I do hope that the kampher will get at least a 1.5 treatment. Its such a nice looking design.
Ah yes, one of the few Naoki designs that I feel kinda clashes with itself too much (hard angles vs classic Zeon curves). Funny story: if you have 2 Kampfers you can have them have symmetrical legs (basically one with no boosters on the lower legs and one that have twin boosters on each lower leg) since the parts are mirrored, effectively allowing one to make the poor man's Greifer variant
Just a heads up it seems like you didnt manage to catch the email P-bandai sent about the Kampfer Schwer and the fact they screwed up and misprinted the manual. They where suppose show you adding thrusters in the new side leg armor but didnt and when they realized that they sent out an email to who bought the kit saying this and linking back to the updated p-bandai preorder Schwer page of the May-Sep closed preorder with the correction for the manual which shows you needed to add parts A1 6&7 to the part J2 11 in the 6(10) section of the manual and parts A1 9&10 to the part J2 11 in the section of 7(7) of the build manual. It seems they didnt make a large enough announcement for people to hear about this. I got the email on Sep 29 if you need to check around there.
the biggest problem for the kampfer was the weak knee joints and other stability issues but they did not fix that :/, also some fixed pose hands would be good to hold all those weapons.
The hands not seeing an upgrade to be more inline with modern MG hands is probably the most shocking bit to me with this kit. After that, its sandwich firearm design from two decades ago where you're going to have to clean up those gaps with puddy to make the kit look a little less toyish.
Haven't been around for a video in maybe a couple years now, good to see you still going. I'm building the HG Kämpfer now and scribing in new panel lines by copying the Kämpfer in Gundam Evolution, since it's a bit more detailed. Then I'll paint it white with gold accessories and thrusters, so I'm enjoying Kämpfer related content right now
Are the frame parts still in ABS? That was one of my major gripes with the old MG. Plus the proportions were off. Kämpfer deserves a 2.0 to go with the Alex
I definitely prefer the base Kampfer. This redesign seems kinda… confused I guess would be a good word for it? This looks more like a customized Sazabi than a Kampfer.
@@optiondezzo1513 An MG 2.0 or something would be great, I was just confused why someone would want an RE of something that already exists as an MG, since an RE would make it even more basic. I think in general MGs from the 00s are pretty good for their age, especially compared to the 90s.
Happy to hear that Bandai tooled an AB adapter, at least. I find myself frustrated when P-Bandai updates of older MGs don't. Especially in the case of Crossbone X-0, as they shipped an adapter with Patchwork.
It's an awesome looking variant but hearing that all the innards are basically unchanged makes me kinda glad that I missed out on it. The joint which connected the leg to the pelvis/hip section snapped on my old Kampfer so I don't wanna see that happen again.
Main con with all of the 'builder' custom kits is that none of them improved articulation. I'm still annoyed I missed the rush on the Quebeley Crash, that customization was actually pretty sharp.
This was a tough kit to get through but was still enjoyable for the sake of it feeling like a time capsule. I noticed you missed a few thrusters at the feet since there was an error in the instructions for skipping those. P bandai had to email people the correction which was a first for me. I also think Bandai got lazy with this one. The "new" feet don't match the design much mostly because how they're molded. They're just hollow solid chunks. This was the perfect candidate for a 1.5 and sell oodles. Kampfer is a top tier design and this kit still looks gorgeous but sad they dropped the ball.
I did a review on this guy when he just came out a month ago,his legs kinda sagged down cause the extra parts added a little weight, plus it seems like bandai did forget to add the new yellow parts on the 2 sides of the legs and have to correct it
It's weird, because I just got the MG Powered GM and all of the parts that were ABS in my GM Kai kits have been replaced with a different, softer plastic. I am surprised there is still ABS in the Schwer.
I just finished building the original Kampfer, and the parts that are ABS here were ABS originally - maybe something with the way they make molds accounts for the type of plastic used?
I think we need more Build series designs in 1/100 scale as in the 1/144 kits that has a Master Grade counterpart like the 00 Diver/Sky, heck I want a Gundam Tryon 3 made out of the MG Ver.Ka ZZ Gundam kit.
It looks like you missed a pair of booster nozzles under the new armor piece on the leg, and I think you put some of the boosters on the back backwards.
I did miss the ones on the side of the legs cause it was an error in the manual- that step was left out. Apparently Bandai sent out an email correction to people but I missed that
yeah thats been a problem on every kampfer except the ver ANIME figure, which let them move out of the way allowing full knee bend, a 2.0 could still happen it is a popular unit and its not unlike bandai to make a new model kit after releasing the metal robot or metal build version of it, which that is coming the kampfer in March, I remember it happened with the F91 2.0, Wing zero ver ka and maybe a seed one but dont remember, all starting with metal build releases
this kit looks so good but was wandering if the knee construction holds up, have heard from some other mg kampfer reviews that it isnt so solid feeling
I absolutely love the design, but honestly the thing that made me pass on it was the price. I knew from the first time I saw it, given Bandai's trends, that this was just going to be a normal MG Kampfer with new external armor. So when I saw this had an almost $30 price premium on it over the normal MG Kampfer, I had to pass. I can't justify an almost-doubling of the cost for some new armor on a roughly 20 year old frame, especially when it doesn't even come with all the original's accessories like the chain mine whip. I'll probably just pick up the inevitable Daban one for 1/3 the cost when it comes out.
Now that I look at it, the Schwer, kinda looks like a Gundam UC version of the Gespenst from SRW. Really cool to see this in detail, I really want to get this now
I hope this sells well enough to raise interest in making a 1.5 or 2.0 MG. As for this kit in particular im glad I decided not to get it. The clashing of shapes really ruined it for me and there was really not much when it came to "new stuff".
It's a cool enough mobile suit on its own, but as a Kampfer variant it doesn't work for me. Don't like adding front skirts and replacing the spiky asymmetrical shoulders nor the dark color scheme that obscures all the details. I'd rather get that High Mobility Kampfer abomination even though it's only going to be available as an overpriced G Frame.
Kinda lousy release considering it’s a premium Bandai with a hefty markup and availability constraints. I have built the original MG Kampfer and the weakest point was the inner frame. It looks fantastic outside even in its original shape.
I'm surprised Bandai did so little to change up the original kit. Admittedly, that's not much of a departure for this line of kit redesigns, but you would expect at least taking a look at the firearms and hands.
I really don't know why Bandai and other plamo companies don't just have a system where they chop off unneeded parts from the runners and recycle them. Would probably bring the price down and leave you with less useless parts...
I like extra stuffs. I've only completed a few kits. Extra parts give me pieces to practice modifications and painting techniques on without potentially screwing up my kits.
I'd bet a lot of thought on Bandai's end has gone into this, with the conclusion being that just charging the consumer more for the extra parts is cheaper on their end. Or at least something like that.
@@benquinnobi6461 Modellers in general like having surplus parts because they're extra bits and bobs to use in other projects or for customization of the original kit.
@@ascensionindustries9631 while I get that angle, it gets a bit ridiculous here to see what feels like 1/3rd of the entire kit rendered unusable in it's intended build.
It's actually cheaper for them to just pay for the extra bit of plastic to print the old runner and give us the extra parts. Then it would be for them to pay a person to cut all the unneeded parts off and even cheaper then making a new mold for the older parts being used and not including the not needed older bits. At least for the limited run Kits. You could argue for a full scale production you could save cost by making new molds depending on scale of the printed kit.
@razrafz it's based off the RE100 bawoo so duh Personally I really like it, especially after filling in the panels with a wash and applying the water decals. Tho I might be biased because I'm a suckered for anything zeta related
I wish I would of ordered this! I waited forever for it and then didn’t have the money when it dropped! To the people that expected a complete new frame: wtf were you expecting!? Of coarse it’s just aesthetics and armor! Just build it, pose it, put it on your shelf and enjoy it!
@@snowy9587 pfft I’ll buy it off you. I’ll give you 60 bucks for it, that’s a fair deal. I build model kits, not action figures and I don’t need to make stop motion videos with it so it’s perfect for me. I just snap it, customize it, then paint it. I’m a simple man I guess 🤷♂️
@Gundumb_guy I'll accept 70 USD depending on whether or not the current ebay auctioneer actually pays for it I was hoping for something like the Dom 1.5, cuz it started with the dwadge which updated the old frame for more modern standards. I was REALLY hoping that was the case with this kit and that we'd be getting a modernized 0080 Kampfer MG, but clearly it didn't turn out that way Those dumb butt thrusters and flimsy knee assemblies are still the things Achilles heel, and without modification, I doubt we'll ever get a decently articulated 1/100 Kampfer model kit (not metal build) anytime soon
