Another great addition to this series Nick. Sad to see the public denied access to a place of interest, thought you might have been tempted to fence hop and have a look around.Enjoyed tagging along as always. Atb. Mick.
Done this part of the walk today, for the first time. Got lost off from the track a little bit, but managed to find my way back onto it (I must get a map). The POW site used to be open to the public (my mam informed me) until fairly recently, as there used to be a little cafe on the site. Not sure why they closed it (?). It was extremely muddy around Wadsley farm where it came over my boots, and every step I took came with a swear word to accompany it! Enjoyed the walk, and the weather was decent considering its late November. Keep up the good work 👍
I really enjoyed the Weardale Way. I was a bit disappointed that we took a long detour to see the camp but couldn't gain access - especially as they received a lot of public money to develop and protect the site. Yeh, I can well imagine the mud. That's a bit of an obstacle course getting through that. We nearly missed the trail on the other side too and had to double back on ourselves - and we had a map - lol. Thank you for watching. I've got a load of footage I need to edit but I started work last month and just haven't had a chance to edit any videos yet.
Love the intro tune! And super jealous of the green you have your way. Waiting to see that colour again over here. That river looks like a fun paddle! Lovely walk!
Really nice hike! We’re always careful when there’s cows in fields, especially with young! We’ve heard so many nightmare stories... Thanks for sharing, liked 👍
Been to the Harpley Hall police forensics unit about 10 years ago for a visit and meeting, real interesting place. Shame you could not get into the old POW camp, I thought it was supposed to stop getting out, not in! Cheers Alan
Well if it was then, I would say either the Weatherspoon's in Crook or Bishop Auckland, not that I have been in either on a Sunday mind but they tend to do 7 days a week.
A right shame you couldnt get closer to that old camp...bet it was a real deflated feeling. However did you get a feeling of hauntedness about the area? A chill down the spine?. ATB Mark.
Hi nick hope you and family ok. Bit of a disappointment with pow camp. Should be open for viewing even if guided by appointment as important part of history and education. Moving house at moment to barleymow Chester-Le-Street so speak soon and take care bud.
Ok I’ve had a look loads of interesting places until you hit Washington then everything has been changed or hidden over years. Finchale priory is a great place park charge is bad but if on foot ok as you get in for free also through the caravan site there is a place called st aidens tomb. A lot of myth about it but I’ll speak to my mother tomorrow as she knows a lot about it. The route takes you through Lumley which is nice has a so castle and used to be a safari park but lambton castle is the gem just over the river. After this I don’t know the only hidden jem in Sunderland or Washington apart from mines with housing estates built on top of them is Hilton castle but well worth a visit nick. The air museum at Washington is interesting with a Vulcan bomber there. I’ll keep looking bud and try find more interesting things if you have any ideas of places let me know as I know locals that can tell more take care nick
