Hello, I suffer from a lack of water in the car, and there is no leaking hoses or radiators, does the thermostat do that in case it is damaged, as I notice a sudden drop in the temperature of the car and it did not rise from its normal position to 80C when Stuck Open Thermostat is to cause to lack of water , the weather is summer ??
To anyone who’s automotive educated; If a radiator fan is constantly running, wouldn’t a properly working thermostat opening and closing help regulate the temperature to its operating state thus making a running fan not an issue?? Only wondering bcz I keep having this code pop up occasionally. Looking at date, code came on when engine was at 165F and vehicle was still in a closed loop. Rpm was around 3400 when the code was capture. Currently pending a thermostat replacement so hopefully that solves my issue.
Okay when I’m driving on colder days it hovers around 77 degrees Celsius. Then it always trips the light. If the cars idle and not moving for say 5 minutes the temperature goes up to the normal range 90 degrees Celsius. I have good heat in the cabin I can put my hand ontop of the engine and not get burned the hoses feel nice and hot so do you think this is faulty temp sensor. It’s strange when moving it dosnt heat up quick enough when parked and idling it dose.
In my case Opel Astra 1.4 Turbo A14NET, P0128 was the only code, Thermostat was faulty indeed, but dash prompt messages ENGINE GOT TOO HOT so car ECU had to shut down the A/C. Once I open the hood, noticed the fan was constantly working on full, which indicates a CRITICAL problem, the water were not extremely hot, it's because of the faulty thermostat resulting in no water circulation. Button line I want to say this error code can be CRITICAL and severely damage the engine.
Also if you replaced your OEM thermostat with a race thermostat, that opens at 160 instead of 180 you will get a code. Replaced mine with a mishimoto amd got the code.
if this engine check light code was not repaired for long time, what will happen ? i hear loud noise after 20 - 30 min of driving which is increased by pushing on accelerator !!! is it related to unrepaired coolant thermostat ? or something else ! in dodge durango 2012
p0128 is for coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature. Most of the times this is caused by a thermostat sticking open or a faulty coolant temp sensor. This issue can be related to other issues, however most of the time it's a simple fix. A good indication of your thermostat failing is the temp gauge on the car not reaching operating temperature, heat not working well etc. If your in-vehicle temp gauge stays on the lower end while driving this is a good indication its a thermostat.
got check engine light (p 0128) , replaced the thermostat but the check engine light still on even after driving the car for around 70 miles (coolant level is OK and cooling sensor is OK also) is that normal ? Yeah, the car is 2014 Dodge grand caravan
When you replace the part, always make sure to reset the ecu by removing the negative front battery for 5-10min and your check engine code should be off and code should be removed.
Nice video but you're mixed up on open vs. Closed loop. All cars start off in open loop and after reaching operating temperature they go into closed loop
I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic. I’ve changed thermostat, temp sensor(X2), new radiator, radiator sensor, coolant flush, check wiring, tested fans and still the code comes back.... my last resort is to go buy dealer thermostat thinking autopart stores China products are faulty.
@@lakerphan17 yes! I saved the original parts and remove the aftermarket thermostat to compare them. The original was totally different from the aftermarket one.. I cleaned the original one up with a wire brush and brake cleaner... let it dry and reinstall it(original) and have not had any problem since but now know that if something goes wrong with the thermostat that I will be taking it with me to the dealer to get the exact same one. My dash says engine, hot AC off and the fan. Keep running after I turn off the car even when the car is cold the fan will just kick in soon as I start the car.

When I see this code the first thing in my mind is "what is the thermostat regulating temp? Are we talking 180 or 190?" a better way to of worded this is "engine coolant temp is out of thermostat regulating temp."
