If they are mailed in, the envelope would have a Post Office date stamp on it, so not counting it because someone forgot to put the date on the actual ballot is pretty ridiculous.

I live in PA and in Philly...if they recieve a mail in without dates..they contact the person and give them a chance to come date the mail in. Otherwise they can vote provisionally.

I lived in PA for decades. Primarily in the Philly suburbs. I learned very quickly that if wanted to secure my vote in the presidential elections, I had to register Republican so that if I ordered an out of state ballot I could be sure if wouldn't delivered until after the election.

It's Pennsylvania that has this ridiculous rule. Mail-in voting became available in Pennsylvania in 2019. Unfortunately, Republicans insisted on a "non-severability" provision in the Pennsylvania mail-in voting law that says that the law becomes void when any of its requirements are struck down in court. The law has a requirement that mail-in ballots have a voter’s handwritten date on the outside envelope. This is what makes this date issue so complicated; removing that requirement could result in mail-in voting no longer being permitted in Pennsylvania. Democrats had to agree to these things to allow mail-in voting to be available to Pennsylvania voters. (Republicans controlled both the state House and Senate.)

Speaking from another jurisdiction: if a ballot arrives back for counting before polling day, the essential thing is the voter’s signature - not the date. This is a legal fishing expedition to find a reason to deny some voters the franchise because of immaterial nitpicking over whether they dated it correctly (doesn’t matter, it clearly had to be before polling day!).

We got our ballot received confirmation in the mail Friday or Saturday. Philadelphia has an awesome GOTV ground game where they will contact you by email, cellphone, and send someone to your house to cure your ballot if the date or privacy envelope is missing.🥰

In PA, you must sign and date the OUTSIDE RETURN ENVELOPE on the space provided on the back. Double and Triple check that you’ve signed and dated the return envelope. (Not the inside envelope that has your ballot in it).

FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS FULLY if you are doing Mail In Ballots. What is so hard about filling out the ballot correctly, including writing the date and signature on the envelope. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS! You can also go online and check if your ballot cleared. If it hasn’t, make the effort to go to the clerk and correct the issue.

There may be a difference between an absentee ballot and a standard no-excuse-required mail-in ballot. I request a standard Pennsylvania mail-in ballot every year, and I don't have to justify in any way to get one. You may want to contact your election office to see why this is required for you. Were you doing this prior to 2019? (2019 is when the standard no-excuse-required mail-in ballot became available in Pennsylvania.) If so, I suspect that there are two difference kinds of mail-in ballots and you need to request that yours be changed.

The idea Dems need to focus on rural PA to win just doesn't sound right at all to me as somebody who lives in PA. Sure, campaign everywhere, be seen. But to win Dems need to run up the vote totals in Pgh, Harrisburg and Phila and surrounding suburban areas like Delco and Chester Co.
