Mark Helfrich joins Colin Cowherd on The Herd to talk about the latest big moves in college football, as teams continue to flee the Pac-12 for other conferences. With Oregon and Washington headed to the Big 10 and teams like Arizona, Arizona State and Utah joining the Big 12, Colin asks Helfrich to lay out what benefits teams gain by making the switch. Plus, Helfrich talks his experience coaching Justin Herbert after the quarterback signs a huge deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Come on, stop with the cold weather argument. Southern California native here in Ohio and I’m out running in shorts and a shirt in 28° temperatures. Ohio State had a hard time handling the weather in Ann Arbor when it snowed in '21. But yea, as a Michigan native who's lives here for 39 years, we get far more days in November where it's closer to 50° than days in November when it's snowing. But it's really just the unpredictability of the weather in the Midwest in November, though I'm sure the weather in Oregon and Washington is just as unpredictable in November and UCLA and USC have been doing that for decades.

@@Chiefqueef- I know Oregon is pretty diverse when it comes to weather right? People always think typical Pac NW, but isn't it pretty arid/desert-ish in SE Oregon? Crazy difference there. I know Eugene isn't close to SE Oregon but I was wondering what fall weather can be like there; say on Halloween and on Thanksgiving. Because I'd guess it probably isn't too far off from many of the Big Ten campuses. Perhaps the main difference is that there is a not insignificant chance that it could snow in a lot of the Big Ten campuses. For example, I live in Kalamazoo, MI and we got snow during the second week of November this past year, but then two days later it was over 50. And in any case, East Lansing very rarely gets Lake Effect snow and Ann Arbor never does. But that doesn't mean a random storm system can't come in and dump 4 or 6 inches during a random November Saturday. In any case, would love to hear your thoughts on how the weather will affect the Ducks and what the weather is like out there. Welcome to the Big Ten!

@michaelwall3393
@michaelwall3393 Год назад
@@tc16169actually you both are a bit incorrect but you are more accurate than the guys comparing Helfrich to Scott and so on. The Oregon University and Oregon State University were both in a bit of trouble for recruiting violations and use of recruiting firms that when Bellotti first took job at Oregon and Riley took job at Oregon State in the 90s it was a loophole that many colleges used. When the NCAA and Federal government and state’s’ legislatures implemented new policies and rules to change on use of recruiting firms, damage was done and hard to quit breaking certain rules due to contractual obligations and policies. Someone was going to be the fall guy at both schools and just so happened at UCLA too along with back east at three schools. It happens often in college when you have been doing something that was kind of shady to questionable but not illegal at the moment but knowing full well in time will be. Helfrich is an excellent coach and decent recruiter contrary to what is out there. Larry Fedora is a damn great coach and even better recruiter but along with potential NCAA tutor scandal across all sports at UNC and they too were using a recruiting system firm similar to the other schools without making necessary adjustments, he became the fall guy or scape goat.

Cowherd has been correct regarding the bloated irrelevant game schedule in college football. 95% are irrelevant outside of their local fan base or campus. No one gives a damn about Howard vs Eastern Michigan. There are only 4 relevant conferences- ACC, B1G, SEC, Big 12. Even in those conferences, over half of the teams are low to mid tier competition that occasionally become temporarily relevant or play spoiler from time to time. These conference realignments are a GOOD thing. USC vs OSU. Michigan vs Oregon. Yes please. The rivalries like Oregon vs Oregon St can still be scheduled out of conference. Not every year though. That will have to be sacrificed upon the alter of modernity. In its place you get Georgia at Texas. LSU at Oklahoma. Those games will be awesome. And the 4 corner schools keep the B12 relevant and a stronger brand than it would be without them. I am curious where the Pac 4 end up. Mountain West? Stanford and Cal to the B1G? Also with the new CFP expansion, scheduling big games will no longer be so discouraging. Loss you go up the ladder. Lose and you may still get in.
