It looks to me that Pagani Design have offset the extra cost of the applied indices by clearly applying smaller lume plots to them. I also prefer the aesthetics of the Seestern dial (the white on orange). While I own several Paganis, I have more confidence in Seestern as a brand when it comes to build quality. Pagani Design usually offer good value for money but they do cut corners to achieve this and you are usually left wondering how your watch has been compromised as a result. That is just my own personal take. Put it this way, if Pagani made planes, I don't think I would buy a ticket. 😉

I’ve been wanting someone to do a comparison video between the two watches and yours was excellent. I bought the Seestern before I saw your comparison and I love the watch. To me it’s very simple, Pagani had the benefit of seeing what Tactical Frog and Seestern produced before they made their watch and yet they still made a watch with crap lume. A diver with poor lume is just lazy! Loved your video, keep them coming!

There's nothing wrong with the markings on the Pagani bezel. The depths are shown in meters instead of feet. Some Doxas bezels use feet and others use meters, so both can be considered "correct." The depths and their locations on the bezel match those on my Doxa Sub 300T almost perfectly. There is one difference in that the 25 meter marking on my Doxa is closer to the 35 minute marking, but on the Pagani it looks like it is closer to the 34 minute marking. All in all, the Seestern is much closer in style to my Doxa than the Pagani (except as previously stated, my bezel uses meters instead of feet for its depth markings). My Doxa has a date at 3 o'clock, white lume pip, flat sapphire crystal, and printed dial. Also, my Doxa has the same downward sloping section of the bezel (the part with the minute markers). And, the teeth on the Seestern's bezel look practically identical to those on my Doxa. So, for anyone who places extra value on closeness to the original, then the Seestern seems to be the winner here.

Yeh the seestern is by far the closest to the Doxa. Funnily enough ive heard from other doxa owners that the bezel rotation and lume is quite poor?

@@TheWatcherReviews My Doxa is pretty old (circa 2005) and so while it isn't as good as my newer watches, I think it's a bit of an unfair comparison because lume compounds have gotten much better in the intervening years. Maybe someone with a newer 300T can weigh in on current generation Doxa lume. I do know that the current Sub 200 is notorious for it's poor lume. I don't have any issues with bezel rotation on my example. I would say that it requires a touch more effort to turn than average, but it isn't difficult at all. The saw teeth on the bezel really help with grip.

Also, the Seestern lost a point for flat sapphire. The Seestern seems to model the 300T and the PD the 300, due to the crystal differences.

Forgot, the markings are the Navy no decompression guidelines for diving. Which is why it's critical as a tool watch that both move together. Vs the tactical frog...

So great to hear this because i just ordered one last night. I could not say no to a $160 Sub 300T homage. Been wanting the real one but im saving for a Seamaster. Now i get to enjoy the look and design of the Sub at less than 1/10th the price, so excited!

Totally agree with you. My Seestern is fabulous for the money. I just don't understand how Pagani almost refuse to use decent Lume, lets em down every time.

It's hard to see from our perspective but most people on AliExpress buying such watches just want the cheapest of a given look and don't care about anything else. So cutting corners can build Pagani a relatively healthy customer base...

I'm lucky in as much I really don't care about lume , one because I'm not a diver and two life is just too short lol I'd rather care about build, colour,fit,etc.

That’s a no comparison, of course the Seestern will win but I would love to see a comparison between Seestern and the V3 of the Tactical Frog because the bezel is fixed and perfect now and the Frog is 10g lighter. Can’t wait to watch this tonight when I have time

After considering both, and initially favoring the Pagani as the price is now (Sep 23) half that of the Seestern, this video clearly shows the difference is probably worth it for the Seestern. Better case, much better bezel, better bracelet, better dial, much better lume. Swapping in a domed crystal would be pretty easy down the line if you were bored.

To me, looking at the bezel and crystal, it seems that the Seestern is the homage of the 300T, while the pagani is the one of the 300 but with many shortcomings like wrong hands and no date...

I purchased my tactical frog Doxa homage watch on EBay for $107 USD. Very happy with it. I believe it's comparable to the Seestern.

I had the seestern, I loved it and sold it as it was too top heavy for my small wrist. The pagani would have been perfect for modding if the bezel was correct, it looks like the bezel was designed by a different department than the case.

I have the Seestern and like it very much. However, I would have preferred if it had come with the style of case of the PD and the top hat crystal... Nothing major and if I had to pick again today, I'd take the Seestern again.

Yup my frog has the exact same clasp as on the PD, but I’m ok with it because the trade-off are the screw pins on the Frog. I do like the flushness of the back cover on the PD because I like a thinner watch.

I liked our review, however there was a detail about the two watches you failed to point out. These are homage watches and as far as homage, the Seestern comes the closest. Flat crystal, painted indices and date complication all follow the Doxa design.

I’ve been looking into throwing one of these in my cart next time I buy some watches it’s between the pagani the seestern, steel dive , thorn and the tactical frog between these two I’m taking the pagani that orange just looks richer and the applied indices are a plus the longer lug to lug doesn’t bother me and I’m a sucker for a boxed sapphire crystal especially on a retro design watch like this I have a few paganis and lume is never a strong suit so you kind of figure that going in although I’m sure people would gladly pay a little extra if they were to upgrade it but I’m more worried about what it looks like in the light and for me that’s the pagani that orange really pops

I know how this one ends. To be fair, the Pagani isn't a terrible watch they just need to tweak it a bit. Having now watched the video the Pagani did better than I thought. The bezel markings are different on the real Doxa's depending on the model. I believe the Pagani is based on the top end Sub 300. I notice the price has been hiked up quite a bit since I got mine. At £110 it was a good alternative but now the Seestern is a much better choice at only £25 more.

Nice review - Seestern wins by about 4 points only. Clasps no logo on Seestern. There is a price difference.

Was watching a vid when an Aliexpress email came through, price drop on the PD down to £64... you really can't go wrong for that sort of money :D So I dusted off the emergency card and now is on its merry way and the final movement in the NH3x department also crossed off lol

The Tactical Frog v3 is spot on to the sub 300, minus the bezel printing. The a Seestern is spot on to the sub 300T. The Pagani is some hybrid.

Love these comparison style reviews You have mastered these comparison reviews as well as the usual style I am wondering why Jason and yourself didn't give the Thorn Doxa homage much love I did pull the trigger on the steel with baby blue dial and most likely going for the orange dial variant next Mainly because they look the least like a direct copy and have some stand alone features that I found quite impressive and the 139$ price point didn't hurt either Thanks for another killer review my friend 👍

I think its because i like the doxa styling and seestern is closest. While thorn does have stand alone features and is well made i think most people liked the doxa and ended up overlooking the thorn

Great comparison! How can we achieve to get a smoother crown action? These are essentially the same movements and I find differences from a nh35 to another in my collection. Is it oil related?

The crown action isnt anything to do with movement, its the crown tube and the threading/machining. Seems to be polished after or well deburred giving a smooth operation

Btw I thought you were talking about the winding action which can be clicky or butter smooth on different nh35/36/38, and moreover the way their crown can be pushed easily or not when you want to set the date or the time. If you are able to fix it or make it smoother it would be a useful subject for a video.👍

Hey dude! I have an unrelated question. I am asking cause you seem to be knowledgeable about modding. Are all watch crowns and crown stems universally threaded? Meaning any crown would fit any stem? I ask because I'm thinking of taking on a peoject of swapping Addiesdive quartz sub homage's miyota 2115 to a seiko VH31 sweeping second hand movement. From my research the hands and even the dial will fit bar the stem height difference that can be fixed with a dial spacer. Now my only concern is would the Addiesdive crown fit the VH31 stem?

@@TheWatcherReviews that's the thing. I've been looking at the datasheet of both and at the stem section. But don't understand the units there. The only thing that matches is S0.9, P=0.225mm in Miyota (they use 1/1000mm as unit) while VH31 datasheet has S90 P22.5 in theirs (Seiko uses 1/100mm as unit).

i have the seestern and the hour markers are terrible and kind of ruin the watch for me... the black and white don't look even or aligned and its noticeable, otherwise it'd be good

As with everything in life you get what you pay for where quality is concerned
