Check this video out... the easiest Jeep Wrangler switch panel and wiring harness you can possibly install... The Painless Performance Trail Rocker Switch Panel and we wire up a set of JW Speaker TS3001V LED lights mounted to the bumper.
I chose the Painless Trail Rocker because I watched Fred Williams and Dave Chappelle install one in a Jeep on an old episode of Dirt Every Day and it looked like a fantastic kit. The JW Speaker TS3001V lights were a no brainer because I've been extremely happy with all of the other lights I've put on the Jeep.
The Trail Rocker install is super easy and it makes wiring up the lights an absolute piece of cake.
Here's a link to the Painless Trail Rocker Kit:
www.painlessperformance.com/w...
Here's a link to the JW Speaker lights that I chose:
www.jwspeaker.com/products/app...
There are two options, round and oval... I picked the oval to look unique... what do you think?

I installed the SPOD version of the same thing. I only have the halo from my Oracle head and fog lights wired currently, but love the utility of the underhood unit. The SPOD has a voltage sense circuit that cuts off the SPOD when it detects vehicle battery voltage below around 11.8v. Pretty great piece of kit.

Doesn't your Diablo module enable you to use fog lights at the same time as you use high beams ? The Superchip Flashcal I have does...
@Sybridox
@Sybridox 5 лет назад
A possible option to save you from rewiring your fogs is a superchips device. I would imagine, unless you've picked a different option, that you'd want to calibrate your speedo and such for your larger tires and/or gearing. That device would also allow you to make it to where your fogs will work even with high-beams and wouldn't take up a switch spot on your panel.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 5 лет назад
Thanks for the suggestion... I've heard that a few times now about the superchips. I'm ok at this point to dedicate a switch for them and if it's as easy as the locker bypass... should take about 15 minutes!

@@AutoEdits On my install, the hardest part was getting the firewall grommet to fit. I have an automatic and the grommet was just barley too big and I ended up having to trim it to fit. I was surprised by having to trim my firewall hole as well. On the addition of more JW Speaker lights... the tail lights are just plain luxurious... they look high end and are. Hey Jason did you add a diode to the Painless locker circuit so if you happen to use the stock locker switches you're not back feeding 12 volts to the painless? Guess that could work both ways using the painless to turn on the lockers there may be a possibility you're back feeding the stock locker circuit too.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 5 лет назад
Good question. No diodes added. I don't see the problem with back feeding an open relay... signal just ends. I did do tests with both the stock switch activated and then hit the switch panel and everything seemed fine but that doesn't mean it's right. I now only use the switch panel and have many hours of successful operation.
@Stuka87

Another awesome video! I really like the stuff Painless makes. Always top quality, and this kit seems to be no exception. My only comment/complaint is the way the switch kit pushes the rear-view mirror down further into the already vertically challenged forward viewing area. This is the same reason I don't run any dash mounted acc like GPS, cell phone holder, etc. on mine. Also, rear visibility in my stock JKU with stock 31" tires already stinks. I would imagine that once bigger tires (and spare) are added in combination with the lower mirror height, you're not going to be seeing much out of the back end; at least not from the rearview mirror. Jason, as someone who has gone from stock tires to 37" and has this switchkit installed, can you comment on this? My JKU is my DD, so I need all the factory bits to work like they're supposed to if you know what I mean, lol.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 5 лет назад
Moving the mirror down didn't bother me one bit looking forward through the windshield. The back with a 37" tire has always been tricky and after the move just took a bit to get used to. Having the switches is worth it for sure... I think they make a 4 switch panel that mounts down by the center console for automatic Jeeps. Thanks so much for the comment!

That is a lot of relocation for the install of the rocker panel. And not a fan of making holes bigger. My question is why not go with a single lead weather pack instead of the 2 lead? Since you went to chassey ground. I went with the Appolo switch system and no relocation needed for the the switch panel install, rear view stays in its original place. Love the videos this one just seemed like a lot of relocation for a switch panel.

Good for you. I really hate the looks of that volt meter and I like the location of the relays in this kit. Keeping them close to the battery makes sense to me and I have a vacuum pump relocation in the spot the apollo would live in. There are 2 wires coming out of the back of each light and I ground them in a convenient spot near where I Y'd the power lead. Fairly simple stuff here but I think I understand where you are coming from...

Any filter on a light means less overall light output. Yellow for driving or off road might be better or none at all. I’d worry the amber covers may confuse an oncoming driver for a turn signal that isn’t flashing. Not sure if there are laws on that either. I also kind of liked your older videos where you did more detail on the installs. I hate wiring and was hoping for more explanations on how those kits work. Great video as always though!
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 5 лет назад
I found the amber lenses were actually good for on highway driving and when I was off road... pulled them off for max output. I thought the videos were getting too boring with that stuff so I started to cut it down but with your input I can start phasing some more details back in. For this install... it was literally as straight forward as I made it appear... very easy!

According to CA law, all lighting must be white, amber or red on non emergency vehicles. No other colors are allowed. Back in the day, old cars used to come with yellow/amber fog lights stock. Also, the DRL on my 2014 Tundra is actually the amber turn signal bulbs in the headlights.
@The_Alleged_Suspect
@The_Alleged_Suspect 5 лет назад
As far as confusing them for turn signals, the Jeep Wrangler stock turn signals stay illuminated when your headlights are on, so the aux lights aren't likely to be any more confusing than the stock turn signals would be.
