I painted this after a recent camping trip in British Columbia when we had two barred owls duetting immediately above our camper. So memorable it deserved to be memorialized in a painting.
My 193th.a painting which earns much more vieuws😮. Thanks for the lesson how to draw the oack leaves. My son was in his childhood very fond of owls, so it is a trigger for me to give this a try. 😊wim
Your owl is fantastic! Not a easy subject, I painted one a few years ago. My oldest son asked for it for his birthday and it hangs in his home. I was inspired by a very good photo on the cover of a magazine in October, Halloween themed. I painted him on a snowy branch.
Hi Deb, thanks so much for your kind comment. You're right, owls are notoriously hard to paint! Glad you have tried and succeeded! I think a snowy branch is a very good setting for an owl. Did you use watercolor or acrylic?
thank you Diane for the very useful information you give to us all like mixing colours and drawing made easier no matter how many of your videos I watch you manage to inspire me thank you so much
Oh so beautiful!!! ❤️ Love all the original vocal encouragement you had today! Encouraged me too! This was perfect to prime us up for the fall challenge. Thank you for the reminder to use a card to make veins!! I forget 🙃 🙂
What a beautiful owl. I will definitely try to paint this one. I really enjoy painting leaves now. I go back and compare and can immediately see the difference. My eyes get lost in the different colors and take it all in. The old way was a quick glance and off the page I went. I continue to be inspired and learn something with every lesson. I have joined your channel. I look forward to the interactions.
Thanks so much Ann for everything, and for joining the Channel Membership! Much appreciated and I'm going to do my best to provide quality content for you gals. x
The last sketch I can access is the budgies. I cant find the last 2, the hedgerow of flowers and butterflies or the owl, and they are both fantastic! I cant wait to try!
Yaaay!! I love it!! I knew your version of an owl would be beautiful! By the way, I loved hearing your kitten, doggie, & sheep (was that Jerome by chance? lol) in the background. :)
You can get a substitute for Davy's grey by mixing Paynes Grey with a touch of Burnt Sienna. The key is to keep it very dilute so it is very pale. You could add a touch of Chinese white also to increase the opacity a bit, depending on where you were using it. Hope this helps.
