This demo shows how to get the sense of movement and light in a small waterfall. I'm working on a handmade hot pink coloured paper to get a lovely sense of warmth behind all that cool water and trees.

Lindy, I adore your approach to working with pastels! I never would have thought of using charcoal along with my Conte sticks. Your combination is just breathtaking. I have a photo of a small waterfall from a trip that I just could not get the right perspective. Now, I know that I was missing the application of the darker shading as a first step. Your water and the reflection from the sun is so lovely. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent.

Is there a ticking sound in this video or am I just hearing things? It's a lovely little painting! I can definitely relate to calling a painting done and then going back in for just a little bit more lol.

yes- I had a technical glitch and the ticking went unnoticed till it was all videoed!

So glad I have discovered you. What a treat! Your artwork and instruction are great. Do you take questions? If so, what I want to know is, should I peel the paper labels off of my pastels? Seems I might want to preserve what the color name is, but maybe that doesn't matter? Thanks in advance.

I always peel off the labels and break the pastels in half. Some artists will peel off some of the label and keep the bit with the name. Some will make a colour chart and write the name. To be honest I mix my pastels and if I run out of a colour I like I just try and replace with a similar colour. So you can see you can do it both ways! I find the paper gets in the way.
