Tip on the razor blade; tape the corners/ends of the blade so there’s no risk of cutting a scratch into the surrounding clear.

I used this exact method prep for paint protection film on my 2 week old car that got two rock chips. It saved me a ton of money... and a body shop supplied me the needed paint and clear for the job! The razr blade worked way better then sanding over and over again. This takes patience and time. You cannot rush this!

That looks great. Seriously good stuff. I'm in the industry myself, as a service tech. This body stuff is a WHOLE different ballgame. Different tools, skills, and everything. I'm looking at repairing some chips and whatnot on my own personal vehicle since she's in fairly rough shape. This video is by far the best how-to I've seen, and I'm really not into these how-to/ DIY videos since I am a professional...just with engines and suspension etc.. heh.. Thanks for sharing that information. I'll be looking at Eastwood for supplies if I need. If the supplies match the work I'm sure I'll be happy. Still can't believe how well that blended!! I hope black is easier.

the new trick was the razor blade to flatten the touch up paint. Greatly appreciate that advise. Thanks

So don't fear the sand paper. Thank you. Good tip with the razor blade. OK I will try this on my 2015 Town and Country. On areas that are not visible. Then if that looks good the more visible areas. Yikes...............Wise me luck.

Hi Kevin, you mention 7.58 into the clip, you can do a simple respray. I assume that is clear coating the whole guard. Would that require matting the entire guard to, make the clear coat stick to the old clear coat?

Instead of using the razor to level out the 1st clear coat, can you also wet sand it with grit paper (1500 or higher)?

If there is no rust, isn't it a good idea to try and get some etching primer down as your first layer? That way you have sealed the steel and better tying in of the paint?

i tired this but i think i messed up somewhere along the way while using the razorblade, a little intimidating. and still have light visible scratches after polishing by hand any advice do i need a buffer?
@eastwoodco

You can try buffing if the scratches aren't too deep. You may want to discuss with an Eastwood Tech at 800-343-9353

You use your razor blade at a near 90 degree angle. and you are scrapping the raised area of clear until it is level with the surrounding clear. I detailed cars for years. it takes a little practice. if you put your razor at any slanted angle you can dig into your repair and the clear around it.
@barbaramcilvaine

you should you a sanding block when sanding the car. Otherwise your fingers when pressing, will cause indentations in the paint..
@Normanb15
@Normanb15 9 лет назад
Doesnt the razor blade take off the surrounding paint clear coat?
@stallen
@stallen 9 лет назад
You are shaving everything level with the razor. Just like when you shave hair off your face you don't take off the surrounding skin.... if you are careful.
@theydontknowmeson007
@theydontknowmeson007 8 лет назад
also a reason why you always want a layer or two of wax on your car at all times, to protect the clearcoat from scratching.
@squirrelkilla7371
@squirrelkilla7371 3 года назад
How did you prepare the razor blade?
@suchgr8hieghts

uhhh....by picking up a fresh blade, hold it between your fingers... then scrape the paint...

I just did a BMW lease return , touched up the paint scratches and chips cleared with nail polish ( its lacquer ) masked the surrounding areas with aluminum tape sanded the clear then removed the tape finished sanding to level out, buffed those areas then polish the whole car got paid 400.00 it came out absolutely perfect ( the dealer wanted 800.00) , the tape keeps the repair to a minimum even when I have to use filler , forget duck tape

why did you sand it with 1500 grit with no water? dry sanding is okay?
@benbecic7401
@benbecic7401 6 лет назад
Dry sanding is actually okay, you might just rub more of the particles coming off into the paint that will cause scratching, you have to buff for this method anyway so those will come out before the actual sanding marks. Im assuming you dry sand because wet sanding might activate the paint/clear and cause it to smear
