I bought just enough paint to do my plemum and covers (xr8), and as luck would have it the mechanics scratched the hell out of them so, too much is a must
The ford badge was a brilliant detail, I painted 1 of my v8s rockers, it was a mission and hate the end result, so i give you mad respect for the finish 😎👍🏻
That looks great! The red is soo glossy, it's so shiny it looks wet. The Ford badge really puts it over the top. All of those colour details really look the business. The blue exhaust, red rocker cover, Green Bay, black intake cover, and a crown blue Ford badge taking pride of place front and centre. Well Done. Really Nice Work Sir!
I painted stuff like my Coil cover and fuse relay cover in a nice gloss black, looked absolutely mint with a red rocker. Mines in Vixen to match the car. Might have to re-do her now haha. She looks mint mate. Also did all my plastic intake pipes and exposed bolts and bits and bobs like wipers and my power steering cover thing in gloss black, also did my heat shield in a matte black enamel, looks stealthy and mean. Also suggest getting a black Steele coolant reservoir, picked a second hand one up for $200 and it just completed it. You might like it one, will 110% be doing your blue and white Ford style on the badge up front. Might even paint the 4.0 DOHC in red to make it pop off the gloss black! Enjoying the vids mate. Keen to see you in the spooly boi gang 💯
Looks great Browney. I had previously painted my engine bay and so today I thought I'd give the ford badge paint a go like yours. I tried the silver spray, chap stick then blue but it turned out crap. So I wiped it mate and started again with the blue base and then hand brushed silver onto the raised oval and ford lettering. Turned out much better. Thanks for your great vids.
Nice job mate, looks awesome. I started my rocker cover project 18 months ago and still haven't installed it. I'm hoping for nice weather this weekend so I can do it. Be nice to actually see my hard work , rather than it sitting in the garage.
I am so tempted to do the paint job, which you did so well, but I think I'll just change the gaskets and a sensor and a starter motor. You demonstrated the procedure really well and I can't thank you enough. Pete
Hey Pete, thanks very much. Completely fair, nothing wrong with the stock appearance and most people don't spend as much time as me with the bonnet open looking at it!
Thanks very much mate, high praise coming from yourself! Love your videos mate, particularly the bagged Fairlane (I’ve got a soft spot for E Series Fords). Best of luck with the channel and new merch 👍
Mate well done! Lots of planning and prep really paid off there - cracking result and great tip on the lip balm too! Loved the calendar gag too Browney - sometimes painting jobs just seem to take FOREVER lol!
Thankfully painting went smoothly this time, as you know it doesn't always go that way! But yes prep work is the worst, all that effort and time for little results then 10 mins on the paint and all is worth it haha. Thanks mate 👍
You made good use of the calendar! Good gag lol. I was worried what you had planned with. Great job on the Ford logo! At the beginning I thought you stuck a badge on. Good work Browney.
Just found you , what a great channel. We are stuck overseas and be home in November , my mate is giving me his 2006 BF with a 150,000klm for free!!!!!! Now I want to change a few things , many a front body kit .. plus engine check, new shockers (watch your video on that ) front end parts. What to spend a few dollars on it . Love yor colour and engine
@@BrowneysGarage Mate have you a website, be great if you had one .We were going to get a 2017 car,but when is came along and looked at your car I was hooked. Spend $10,000 on it will have a beautiful car .We have been living in the mountains of northern Thailand for 10 years .When I was young my father promised me his FJ ,wish I had it now ...he sold it for a EK .Have a great day mate
@@BrowneysGarage very interested to see how the turbo goes including cost, it's something not many people include in video's and as a motorcycle guy I wouldn't have a clue.
Welcome back Browney! I have already done plugs and aftermarket coils trying to fix a bit of a miss, which is when I found number 2 or 3 plug hole was full of oil. I finished the job and then stupidly torqued down the RC cover bolts a bit more to see if it would help. I have not had any more missing, but I feel like I may have damaged the threads and gone a bit far. Anyway, I have a spare cover and a gasket kit ready to go. Wanted to paint the cover first of course but am wary of how much to attempt myself. Other videos have shown people struggling to remove the cam phasers but it seems like a lot less of a headache not to have to do this. If 2 RC bolts end up being threaded, will the others be enough to secure the cover? Should I just buy a new engine? haha, thanks for demystifying odd jobs as usual.
One way to find out mate! 🤣 Remembering that I have no real answer I'd have a stab and say that with a fresh gasket under there you may get away with it even if one or two do turn out to be threaded, but if they're in there and holding now they may not be damaged anyway. That extra height and new rubber of the new gasket I would think will help with the seal. Good luck and just see how it goes, don't burn the car to the ground or bin it just yet! 👍
@@BrowneysGarage haha, cheers bud. I was picking up a few things at Repco yesterday and noticed some thread repair kits on the shelf. Not game to attempt if it comes to that, but I'll have a crack at the rest and hope it all hangs together. Thanks for the inspiration, been working on the wagon for a couple days and got plenty of good things done : )
Was a real pain, you may be right! Slipping a corner of the gasket in and putting one of the tops bolts in, then swinging the gasket round on the bolt into position seemed to work ok.
You making good videos brother. Keep it up bro and love the work done to it =) I always had a thought to get the Ford logo painted on the rocker cover but pretty much you have anwered my wish haha. Keep it up brother =) I enjoy youd DIY's.
welcome back Brownie. come on why didnt you paint it Green like all the pretty green stuff it used to have. love the ford emblem part my misses will never know where her chapstick went
Top video, Awesome job. I was thinking about painting my tappet cover, Now I will defiantly paint it. My XR6 is red so I think I will go with the same colour to keep it matching.
@@Mr-Broccoli ZF swap kit is $2000 compared to a TR6060 swap kit @$2500‐ $5000k depending on the k's on the box; throw another $700- $ 1000 for a decent clutch, machined flywheel, new seals, new CSC & remote bleeder. Don't waste money on a T56 unless it is the T56 Magnum box TR6060 that has been blueprinted & clearanced will outlast the T56 (which i did with my BF MK2 XR8/ GT500 hybrid)
Play nice you 2 but I definitely agree, you both have good points but the ZF swap seems like a real pain and not something I would likely ever want. The BTR can be built to handle good power and isn't AS bad as some make out but if I was to upgrade it would likely be to go manual so the 6 speed in whatever form I'd say would be more than enough.
Definitely need to do mine, my plug hole gaskets are gone in the first 3 cylinders and it's making the car surge, oil is getting between the speak plug and coil 😮💨
Very nice vid mate! Think im gonna tear our Territory apart and do something similar. Only down side....Barra parts are SUPER hard to come by here in South Africa!
Browney's my man love your vibe bro just want to say thank you for your support to help me build my na Barra bf by watching yours videos which also encourage me to Upgrade etc cold air intake which I added plazaman piping, cat back exhaust system as she sound like a beast and my favourite was painting rocker cover which I done Anodized purple absolutely love the results. I do have one question wondering if you have a na cam build or any support be much appreciated cheers
Very cool to hear, thanks for sharing mate. And that anodised purple would look sweet! No NA can build, got to be some detail out there though to help. Even a workshop manual maybe?
..... Well done Mate, FYI, Symptom, BF stuck in 1st (Not limp mode), cause, (Took me 2 Days to find). Previous owner spilt Coke into centre console increasing resistance on 'Hall effect' manual sports mode circuit track.
Welcome back Browney!! Just sat through the ads gotta keep the revenue up!! Any chance You got the Flybuys bird number ? could be a fun weekend!! 🤣🍻👍That red looks sick!👌
Thanks mate, keep those cents rolling in! Haven't seen the Flybuys ad yet but I'll be keeping a real eye out for it now! Thanks for the support mate, really appreciate it 👍
Hey Mate awesome job, How did you get the spark plug seals to stay in position when you turned her over to place , I’ve tried this however mine keeps failing out
ive been putting off doing my rocker cover gasket, i get oil in my plugs haha, any chance you could do a sump plug gasket vid? i got a bit of a leak coming from there and contemplating just rubbing some gasket goo on the outside where the leak is coming from hahah
Sump gasket? I'd be very tempted to do the same thing you're contemplating mate. Would be a nightmare of a job at home so no sorry, probably no video on that one in the future!
Check Cam Phaser seals too- not long did my FG MK2 with 73,000km on it, and first 3 plug wells filled with oil every 300km; which also lead to the coil issues i now have (waiting on parts...)
I've had pretty good luck in the past with the rattle cans lasting ok on this sort of stuff, but hey if you have access to some 2K even better! Sounds like it will be come out mint, good luck 👍
Wow mate looks unbelievable good on ya.. and great clear direction with the touchy subject on the paint.. lol but cant argue with your results. Any plans on throwing in any polished aluminum covers in the bay. Like the brake res cylinder? I cast aluminum and mirror polish such covers if you might be interested. As always great vids and looking forward to the turb conversion
Thanks very much mate. Sounds awesome. I'm done with the engine bay for now I think, pretty happy with where it is and I normally prefer things understated/minimal in there. But always enjoy checking out the work of people who are more talented than me! Got any links to your work so I could have a look/admire?
No clear coat on that part. Sure it would be fine but being plastic and having a bit more flex and movement than most metal parts I didn't want to add too many coats of paints, making it thicker and perhaps more prone to cracking/damage with this movement. Again, sure it's not an issue but just being a little cautious.
Nah- Mackilec system really tidies the bay up. Also grab the PCM relocation braket. Couple hundred Dollarydoos, but the best i have found & used- and that's during my BA/ BF/ FPV & FG MK2 ownership.
G'day Browney, firstly awesome video mate. I followed this to remove the rocker cover for my MK2.5 08 XR6 but when I went to gently pry off the VCT phaser gaskets the passengers side solenoid came out with it - alarmingly not the whole assembly! Just half of it. So part of the assembly is still in the housing above the end of the cams. The only information I found online was about FG's where the whole vct solenoid can simply be pulled out. For BA's there's a screw which holds the VCT phaser in place. Do you have any idea for a BF if you're able to extract the rest of the VCT phaser without removing/affecting the cam??
Patiently waiting for the update on the turbo conversion Browney sir. I've owned my auto BA XR6 about 6 weeks now and love it, only thing I don't like is the insanely long 1st gear, which feels like forever since my XR6 appears to be only running on 5 cylinders lol
Thanks mate, it's coming - just wish there were more days in the week to do this stuff. Yep that first gear is loooonng, imagine your XR5 would be making that pretty rough! Good luck with mate and hope you enjoy 👍
Fair enough but everything can be fixed as well. Maybe start by just doing the coil cover, not a great deal you can do there that will stop you from driving the car? Thanks for watching mate.
Hey mate I’m doing the same thing to my car I was wondering if you have to empty your oil out before taking the rocker cover off the car or does the oil have no effect to taking off the rocker cover cheers
Happy with factory premium audio for now, although I know it’s not a great system and wouldn’t rule it out in future. No plans yet though as I say sorry mate. Hope you enjoy what we have coming up anyway
One thing i have always done with an oily surface- is to get it to 80- 100° in an oven or clean BBQ for about 40 mins to burn any oil off. Reclean again with degreaser & wax/ grease remover and apply your primer & paint.
I don't have enough time to work on and service my own cars Bryan, I don't need to be fixing yours too! 🤣 Glad you're here and looking forward to the next video mate, I'm working on it 👍
@@gore1978 Can definitely relate to that mate. Sounds dumb but it helps me just to go out and tidy up the garage/work area a little. Even if just a sweep up regardless of whether it really needed, somehow helps a little. What's on the list to do mate?
@@BrowneysGarage I work out under a carport so limited time due to weather. I have coils and spark to change, air and fuel filter on the territory. Air, fuel & oil filters on the ba and air and oil on the fg. Mind you that's on top of swapping trailer loom and connecting up extra reverse cams
@@gore1978 Bugger none of it's fun but at least most of them aren't hard jobs. Sounds like a long list but I'm sure once you got going you'd knock it out nice and quick mate 👍
Had seen another comment mention this as well, are you sure this is the case on the BA/BF with the cover having to be moved backwards first to clear the camshaft phasers/actuators? Honestly would probably continue to remove them for this job in the future anyway, its tight already and gives me one less thing to worry about breaking on the way out/in, but curious nonetheless.
@@BrowneysGarage I was a mechanic for Ford for 3 years man and still continue the trade from my own shop now, trust me Browney, there’s no need to remove them. Ive done this job countless times and I also own a BF turbo myself haha. Definitely remove coil packs but spark plugs can stay. You’re just making extra work for yourself my man but it’s each to their own I guess. Regardless, I love watching your vids haha keep doing what you’re doing and look after your car man it’s a SUPER clean example and a part of Australian history.
@SD. Hey I try make it very clear that I’m not an expert and this is just how I’ve done the jobs, always happy to learn so thanks for the info. Cheers mate 👍
@@BrowneysGarage we all have our methods, thought I’d just give you a tip for future time management and etc. Look forward to more videos in the future. If you need any help and info with your turbo build just hit me up man. atpenquiries@hotmail.com
Not going to lie, it'll happen again. These videos take way too long and I enjoy too many things outside of cars, balance is good. I do love doing this as well though so there will be plenty more to come, hope you can bear with me and enjoy them as they come 👍
Well 12 has Aaaaaaaaand anodised orange runs everywhere.... light coats etc and still fucked. So now not only do I have to redo but I have fix holes in wall as well
