In today's video, we wrap up our Canadian-inspired Astra Militarum Combat Patrol series by focusing on the heavy hardware, including mortars and the sentinel. We’ll delve into painting techniques that make your models stand out on the tabletop with a quick and effective approach. Starting with the metallic effects, we use a dark brown contrast base to easily flow into recesses, followed by dark bronze or dark gold overbrushing to achieve a clean metallic look. To enhance the overall brightness, we use brighter gold drybrushing and then apply a flesh wash to add warmth and detail, creating a balanced look with both shine and shadows.
Our layering techniques involve mixing metals and building layers with drybrushing to pick out edges and flat panels, ensuring the metallics pop without overwhelming the model. For the armor panels, we apply dark red contrast as a base, followed by light flesh drybrushing and red contrast layering to achieve a cohesive and vibrant look. To integrate white into the color scheme, we add decals and pale silver highlights to balance the paint job. Detailing the smaller sections involves matching them to your base color, adding green tones and highlights for consistency.
