This starts with a brief description of How I make my brick walls but mostly focuses on the painting process, in my opinion paint can bring ANY sculpt to life so I chose to FOCUS on the painting process for this video.
This is ONE way I paint my "Classic Red" Brick. I mix a custom main color every time and I paint layers wet on wet and I have ADD so I move fast, thanks for watching!

Just so you know...each row of brick or block is called a coarse. Each line between the bricks or blocks is called a joint. Just a tiny tip of information from a former brick Mason who also loves art.

Excellent work, that brick wall and door would be perfect for an automotive diorama I'd like to do. I love the backdrop of an old garage.

I tried to make darker joints with gray wall filler and a bit of black paint. The other tutorials advise a paper towel wipe. But your damp towel method made things way better and easier. Thanks!

I use gel acrylic medium paste...but I bet the spackling is cheaper and may be easier to use a a grout/mortar material in between the bricks.

@@OilersWorkshop Definitely, I just happen to see a lot of realism in your tutorials on concrete and brick painting. I usually look at a few tutorials but yours are extremely well presented and take some of the stress off of that first attempt. Thank you very much. I would love to see maybe a dio of the month like you used to do before.

I’m always in a hurry too. I use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process. I don’t dry it completely just enough to get it to a point when I’m wiping down not as much of the color is wiped off with the micro cloth.

Amazing informative video! Would it be OK to seal with say a future acrylic floor finish, or would that be too glossy? I'm thinking the spackle would negate that gloss anyway. Or maybe just use a matte acrylic sealer? Thanks
@OilersWorkshop
@OilersWorkshop 2 месяца назад
You can use matte acrylic but just be aware water based sealer over water based paint with water based spackle can cause reconstitution of paints and smear, so just experiment on a small test piece first

I love all of your work, nan!! I sit here and see all your videos so I can learn & use in my dio’s… do you mind telling me the measurements for this wall, please? Both the length & width, but also the size of the bricks, please? I see that they’re not the regular 0.5 inch by 1 inch… at least to me it doesn’t look that way, I could be wrong… Also, if I can suggest a “how to” video on how you design & cut those accents & archway please? Thanks again
@OilersWorkshop
@OilersWorkshop Год назад
Thanks man, the bricks are 1/4 inch tall I don’t know what the dimensions are lol should be about 22wide by 14 tall, I encourage you to start with a door size (3x7) and then extrapolate from there to get measurements your comfortable with, the arch is just carved on n a separate piece of foam and then cut off and glued on, really straightforward
@williambrown1172
@williambrown1172 Год назад
Do you seal the foam first before your flat black? Not sure if I missed it if you mentioned that step.
@OilersWorkshop
@OilersWorkshop Год назад
Not necessary at all unless you’re using a caustic paint. I’m using brush on acrylic

I’ll do a JUST brick carving video eventually also but for now that’s what’s here on the channel

How do you create the protruding areas? Like the brickwork along the building? Thinner foam? I can only find the insulation foam in 1” thickness. I build ww2 1:18 dioramas. I’m a beginner, but already selling them quite fast.
@OilersWorkshop
@OilersWorkshop Год назад
Wow I wish I sold mine fast lol, you just have to cut the foam thinner my man.

@@OilersWorkshopthey’re no where near as good as yours. But I make mine ww2 1:18, and they sell very quickly. Would getting thinner foam and gluing on top be ok? Thanks.

fabulous work! the arch bricks and the others that were not part of the wall per se, but decorative - how did you make those? is there a video where you created the wall itself, specifically the arch?

Can I use modell plaster the same way?
@OilersWorkshop

I have no idea what specific brand or thickness it is but, I would say probably not, because it’s too water based, but you should try it on a sample piece and see how it goess

@OilersWorkshop
@OilersWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Just keep going and learn from the results, you might like the way it turns out, not every brick needs to be done with a black undercoat, although some primer or flat base coat is preferable, sometimes it’s fine without it too. Just keep going and see how it looks
