You got to get yourself a sander mate. Now we have extractors and high end sanders, it’s a no brainer, clean house, clean lungs, fantastic finish..

Hi , for ceilings I use Tikkurila anti relflex paint, best in the market, I wouldn’t use anything else 👍

I was taught how to use a roller while working in the painters union DC 35 in Boston. I had previously used one the way Brian does here. Then I was taught how to use one properly.

Nice video. Only thing that surprised me after decorating 20+ years is cutting in with a 1.5/2 inch brush. Always use a 3 if you have the control, gives a far better cut in, and far faster.

Great tips. I think if your plasterer is solid, no need to sand down. Perfect finish though.

Alway a need, you sand the mist coat, there may be bits in the paint, plaster water splashes, saw dust etc etc. Always worth a quick rub down.

As a Painter decorator it's good watching others but one thing I've found is these promote the if you can pee you can paint mentality in people. I tend to use Hamilton and Viper trims for different applications. Should a mixed a hard stop filler to fill on the first coat that was applied but that's all I'd have done differently.

you have to spot prime those patches. if you don't the spots will flash.

And l there was me thinking you had to use heat resistant radiator enamel paint because of the heat otherwise paint that is Not designed for painting Rads always goes yellow even cracks & blisters after short time .

Hi, please could you ask Brian, after he’s sanded the mist coat and rubbed it down, does he then go over it with a cloth or damp rag or anything to wipe the dust away that’s been created or does he just put the topcoat on ?

He goes straight from from sanding down, to painting. He said you can wipe down with a cloth if you want to, but it's not strictly necessary if the walls are plumb because the dust falls mainly onto the ground.

If the radiator is different colour. Quick sand. Undercoat first. Stops cracking once grossed

Brian charges based on a mixture of day-rate and price per room...it's not an exact science really...if you're in the south east, contact him!

Doesn’t the filler after painting causes patches? I have this problem, how do i get rid of it?

From speaking to Brian, you need to lightly rub down, and then go over the area with a couple of coats; blending in the newly painted areas 👍

I always go over filler patches with a watered down mist coat as the filler can suck the moisture out of the paint like new plaster also it helps stop the filler showing Through...

You're are right and l would normally wrap them in a cheap plastic food bag held in place with either a rubber band or some form of tape. I know it's sometimes easier said then done but they should all be electrically isolated.

Yeah it would, and on a number of the ones that are going to be replaced for new ones, we did just that, but there were some that had already been changed and fixed in place. For the average DIY'er who doesn't want to be taking them away from the wall, the Masking tape trick is a great work around.

at last someone who knows how to tip paint out a paint tin, from the correct side. .. and working out one side of the kettle. Brian has let me down with not having a proper duster brush though lol

Personally, I’d never use satinwood on radiators. Specific radiator paints are produced to account for the thermal expansion of a radiator and therefore leave a very durable finish as opposed to gloss/satinwood which will end up peeling off over time

@@johnwayne2182 its more for painters who don't enjoy their job or don't care its is hard competing on pricing casue you do have to charge more with oil but we never used them years ago so why change over to water when its obviously not as good the amount of rads i have to strip cause the water over oil it's ridiculous and varnish and woodstains what so called painters have done none them trained just pick up a brush and call themselves a painter putting in stupid prices their killing the industry.

Fair question - simple answer is sheer washing capacity for drying clothes! Those rads get absolutely roasting hot, and if they were doubles, but half as long, we wouldn't have as much space to dry clothing on!

@@OfficeBoyBuilder be careful of the excess humidty when clothes drying indoors without adequate Ventilation as mold can form quite quickley, especially now you've got the "sealed" extension

@@OfficeBoyBuilder in an ideal world you shouldn’t be running your boiler at such high temperatures. The lower you can run the boiler temp, the more efficient it will be.
