Painting Diecast Cars - 1970 Roadrunner. This is one of my favorite cars ever. I love Roadrunners, GTX, Satellites etc. I was a little disappointed in the paint when I bought this 1:32 Jada Toys from Walmart and it hardly had any paint details at all. I redid paint and detailed up the interior and now I feel its much better, have a look!

I have really enjoyed watching your videos & learning. I have decided to give the hobby a go @ the ripe age of 52. Bought some supplies & took my first 2 cars apart today & stripped them. Nothing fancy,just a couple of new cars. Looking forward to painting them tomorrow. Wish me luck & keep them videos coming brother!!!✌

Ralph O'Neal are you going to video them? I've always got room for another channel, I have a collection of 36 Maisto brand mini Harley's and I'm thinking how cool it would be to customize them. I need paint for my airbrush so I was going to buy it from this site. " Diecast Reserrection" but even though I'm Canadian there is no one that can send them to me. Plus I have to pay in American dollars and that sucks. I'm on a fixed income man, that just means I'm freakin broke. So not sure what to buy for paint. I will hopefully find some locally a bit cheaper. But this should be fun. Plus I've got a good collection of 1/8 muscle cars if things work out with the bikes lmao. All thanks to the young fella on Diecast Resurrection and his blub bulbs hahaha I love the way he does that. His humour is beautiful. I wish you all the luck Ralph and it you put it out there I will watch bro.

I got a little nervous when you said Pink, but I must say that it turned out awesome. You are the "Best" paint guy in the genre of diecast restoration and customization. An idea for your stripper jar, you can use a mason jar with a screw on lid. Plus it will be air tight. You can get the large mouth jar to make it easier to put stuff in and take out.

That was such a kick ass custom. awesome paint job, i too love the 1/32nd scale diecast . great details but still small enough.if you do win the lottery please restore and custom a full size one to match this small one.

I've started doing tins for motorcycles, helmets and other small things that i don't need a huge paint booth for. I said this because you saod something about doing real life scale. Cool video, nice paint job as well. As someone who was a teenager when these cars were fairly new, or just a couple years old, and they roamed the streets sucking up good old Sunoco 260 this brought back memeories. The one thing with Mopars was they had lots of room in the wheel wells and you could stuff some massive meats under the back with no modifications. I remember seeing a few with L60 and N50 tires cruising around. I'm with you on the Lottery dreams although I'm a Chevy guy, I've owned 6 Camaros over the last 40 years or so, I'd pack my garage with a few nice 1st generation, '67-'69, cars. :)

To get that pink highlights look that you are looking for, you need to spray whatever base color you want, then clear. After one coat of clear, you need to spray a heavy coat of clear with pink pearl mixed in it. It's in a powder form, and you can get it at your local auto paint supplier, and it comes in many colors. A little bit goes a long way! I use a tablespoon worth mixed in a quart of clear to do a full size car. One coat of the pearl is all you need, then add a coat clear. If you're going to sand and buff, add two coats of clear so you don't sand through to the pearl. If you do, it's a mess... You could add the pearl directly over the basecoat, but it tends to hide and bury the effect you're looking for, sorta like what happened to your Roadrunner. You want it floating between the base and clear. In painting terms, it's called a mid-coat. Give it a try, you'll like the effect. I've been doing it for decades. My paint store sells it for 3 dollars a tablespoon, and puts it in a baby food jar. If you can't find any, I'll send you some.

Had a thought about a paint job. Actually, a memory of one. Long time back, I saw a 66 charger that had a base white paint on it, but also had dark blue highlights. The highlights looked like they had been created by positioning a spotlight at the front of the car, shining down the sides. Everywhere there was a shadow was painted blue. (Including pretty much the entire rear end behind the doors) It looked really cool. This car has similar body contours and I think it would've worked well.
