We used the roll and tip method to paint the exterior of our RV.
We also used the Rust-oleum Marine Coatings Primer for use on wood & fiberglass and the Rust-oleum Marine Coatings Topside Paint (white semi-gloss).

Hey guys! Just wondering what grit sandpaper you guys started with when wet sanding and what the lowest grit you went to was. Thanks!

It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure we only used 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper (we used 3M brand and it was black). It didn't take much to smooth of the exposed fibers and was easier than I expected. Good luck!

Hi just wondering if you remember house much paint and primer you used
@PAKfromFYCB
@PAKfromFYCB Год назад
i just shot mine with acrylic enamel auto paint and it took about a gallon and a half of each. i used an hvlp for the primer with a 1.7 tip and a HTE for the paint with a 1.3 tip. sprayed the window frames and bumper with black polyurethane so theyd be super shiny. for those i used a small hvlp with 1.0 but probably would use the hte if i were doing it again it leaves a killer finish

It’s looking good! Did you guys decide to remove all the walls and roof to be replaced before you got the dolphin? I was hoping to replace only the water damaged areas on mine but the more I remove the more I think I should rebuild. Is there a way i can contact you and Craig for questions? Thanks!

Thank you! We're getting super close to being done, I'm just a bit behind on making the videos. haha we did not, we thought we would repaint the cabinets, take out the carpet, make new cushions, rebuild the upper cabinet on the passenger side, a few other things, and call it good. It wasn't until we took out that cabinet and saw that the whole wall was rotten that we knew it had to be rebuilt. We also didn't know how rotten the subfloor was until we ripped out all of the carpet. Same for the roof; we didn't see the pinholes until we started gutting the RV. Now we know we have a sturdy foundation and no leaks in the roof (hopefully) haha. What areas are water damaged on yours? You're welcome to ask us questions on here! Other people might have similar questions :)

Copy all! Haha well I have the usual damage, the front left and right corner have rot. The plan was initially to seal the roof, re seal around all roof components, and redo the corner trim. As I’m taking off the corner trim I realize the rot goes most the way up the corner. So now I’m in a similar situation. I can fix the framing in the front, and rear where it needs it, seal the crap out of the roof and call it dry for now. Knowing that down the line I should probably replace the roof. Or I do the same as you all and just gut it, replace all that I can. My limiting factor is not having a large shop, currently working under cover but only have 2 walls on the cover so moisture can enter. Anyway, It’s a big project but I’m excited, hoping to not get discouraged

@@homeofthefree8656 Sounds similar to ours, but with rot in different places. The front of ours was solid, but we had rot in plenty of other places. The outer skin of our roof had between 10-50 holes from corrosion, so any water pooled on the roof drained directly into the camper; cool, right! The roof was sagging down several inches in the middle. If your roof is still structural, and isn't sagging, I would try not to replace the whole thing. I say this because it was a lot of work, and if the original roof is still sound, it may be stronger than what you put back. We are very fortunate to have a shop to work in. When we did the demo we were working outside. Let us know what you decide to do. With the big project ahead, just keeping getting something done, and eventually you will complete it. At least that is what I'm hoping!
