29:40 ... Viv Richards the great, starts clapping as soon as Pakistan won the game, despite a very close contest which could have gone either way...... what a legend.. And Pakistan winning a 'Nehru' cup in Indian soil and taking a victory lap in the ground and Indian fans cheering them up... unbelievable scenes.. Need those days back.
Brother we the people of sub continent have been played by the politicians form the very beginning. Now cricket is a business and business always co relates with business.
This match was fixed. Viv Richards took money to lose. This culture was brought to WI team by Viv, which has resulted into WI not even qualifying to World Cups now.
@@rrao7963 dude Everything is fixed. Even 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996……, 2023. Cricket means betting and betting means fixing. People are naive to realize this and have such short memory even to comprehend fixing. If you don’t agree, it’s fine.
And the Eden Gardens crowd was known for its sporting spirit. I heard the Pakistan great, Asif Iqbal, chose to play his final match in Calcutta, so he could retire in front of the Eden Gardens crowd. Everything changed after the 1996 semi-final.
Best odi till that day. Chasing such a big target those days against a strongest team called w.i. in a neutral ground, Was not a joke. Imran really did it.he proved himself. He was motm and mots of the tournament.
Pakistan rubbed salt on Indian wound.First defeated India by 77 runs, then India lost semifinals and Pakistan won the final in the last over by hitting a six😀
The pain of watching matches covered by Doordarshan after 1987 World Cup was that there was a mandatory side on view of the bowler until the bowling stride and then it will switch so painful to the eyes. I have watched cricket on PTV as well during the same period, being an Indian around the border with Pak and the PTV coverage seemed so superior at the same period of time But after private players came in India went way ahead and watching the ind pay series from Pak in 1998 was painful from PTV the coverage was very poor quality.
Viv richards errored in his captainship. He and robert haynes were the part time bowlers and should have finished 10 overs by 40th over and leave the last 10 to ambrose or walsh or marshall, 3 of the best bowlers. Instead he came on the 49th and wasim akram at strike who can clobber gentle off spinners like viv.
