No every Indian is allowed to study I am Muslim and my cousin study in BHU. And lot of universities India has Muslim name but it doesn't mean Hindi or non Muslim can't study there.the name Hindi ,Muslim only include because at the name of the founder of the universities.

There are 2 type of university, 1 is central university and 2nd is state University... In case of states universities, Calcutta university ranked 1st, jadavpur is 2nd ranked in India.

My whole family has studied in Jadavpur University, I am an Electrical Engineering graduate from Jadavpur. My wife holds a Maters Degree in International Relations from there. @Pratik Smith I agree with you as I live in u.k but uk unis cambridge .eaton lse are all falling in world rankings .I think India is doing well in Asian rankings most who comment here are not going anywhere .just false egos.some think by showing off they will get brownie points .

Anna University is the recent name for College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai. It is possibly the third oldest engg college in India, set up in the nineteenth century by the British.

Ranking is done on 1. Research Facility 2. Development of independent thinking. 3 Numbers of paper published in academic mags. 4. Placement of students Calcutta University here. Though the city name changed from Calcutta to Kolkata the university continues to be known as C.U. I did my Honours (Major) there later shifted to Kerala for post graduation as my father was transferred.

It sometimes seems that we could do with 500 more universities, or with drastic, deep root reform of all from the first 50 onwards. That would mean a drop in the ocean, taking a student aspirant population of 50 million, number of universities as nearly 1,000 (the 800 figure is a gross under-estimate, the correct figure is 993), and admitted students as 37.4 million, we need another 500 universities, to meet the needs of the excluded or disempowered 18 million. That means a crisis-level mission to get teachers trained, to decide curricula, to muster resources, to build buildings, to train and deploy administrators and to build halls of resistance. It is sad to see it not happening.
