Just like what they going to do for Ghost in the Shell that's going to appear in the movies 2017. The main character is obviously Asian and they going to make a white girl play it. Their excuse was 'there isn't any popular Asian actresses so we place a popular one like Scarlett Johansson so we can get more view for this movie.' I'm not going to watch this movie because of it.

The 2003 movie really gave the characters and story the most depth and complexity out of all the film adaptations of Peter Pan. Plus, it was GORGEOUS. I have no clue why he said it was "god awful".

+Kat Stav at that point I laughed and laughed and laughed. The scenes leading up to it got incredibly rediculous with the minute, so this was the point where I just decided to laugh as much as I could as the movie jumped so many sharks in 20 minutes that it got impressively funny

2003 was SO good. compelling characters good story lines, a great take on never land, terrifying and charming performance as captain hook, native Americans playing native Americans and having character arcs! It was epic.

I find it interesting that Rufio is the only Indian looking character in Neverland (hinting maybe that Hook killed them all and Peter took care of the last one bc he was an orphan) , and everything omg everything about this movie is great. They have a Hook with a deep backstory . J.V Hart did great with the script . No surprise that his book about Hook's past is so on point.
I've never seen this adaptation, but it does look god awful. I do like the live action one made in the early 2000s, though. It was one of my favourite childhood films. :D

2003 Peter pan is better and Neverland mini series that did a better job of doing the origin story. Oh lets not forget the sequel to Peter pan which is HOOK😉

I couldn't believe how excited people were for the trailers, it felt like I was the only one seeing it for what it was. Trying to shove a prophecy story and a grand epic fantasy battle on Peter pan? All for the sake of showing off even more cgi effects than you'd think a story like Peter pan would need, completely disregarding what the true of essence of the story was supposed to be. I mean it looked basically like what Tim Burton did to Alice in Wonderland. Same with the jungle book trailer. I saw it and just couldn't keep myself from gagging - here they had a chance to properly adapt the original story, and it looks like they're going to be doing the exact same thing as the animated film, except with 90% shitty cgi. Man... just please, give me one amazing completely original film that is NOT so obviously a cash grab where the creators actually care about the freaking STORY they're telling!
I'm going to be a bit religious here so watch out. My family was planing on watching this last weekend, but I ended up with a TERRIBLE head ache because of the extreme heat during the day. When we decided not to watch it the next day, my head was good and the skies were in perfect weather. (cloudy and no rain) I'm guessing even GOD didn't want us to watch it.
I saw it with my sisters and Mama in a cheap theater, and when we came out, my older sister was ranting her head off about everything that was wrong with it literally all the way from her seat to the car! As for me, here are my thoughts: (Spoilers) I started getting angry with the beginning when Peter was left at the orphanage, because I remembered from the book that he runs away from his parents as a baby (don't ask how), but I eventually had to tell myself, "Forget the book, how's the movie itself?" I was laughing at how stupid it was. I felt like I was watching Oz the Great and Powerful in every way possible: Prophecy of a villain's downfall, hero makes allies, cool effects, self denial of being the chosen one, liar revealed, moping for a few minutes, final conflict, villain defeated, and making way for the next and much better movie. Blackbeard was the most useless and silliest looking villain ever, and what ticks me off is that he's suppose to be a feared character, whether in books or films and this film, but so far no recent film has done him any justice. Also anytime I saw Hook I kept hoping to hear the Indiana Jones theme; look at him, he's an exact cut out of him! Oh and Peter, the "chosen one" is useless. He doesn't fight at all, he's fought for, even in the final conflict the fairies fight for him. The only things I liked about this movie were the actors, heck even the boy playing Pan was convincing at even the worst cliched moments. But my favorite part was the scene with the monstrous crocodiles (they're making Hook's death look too awesome), and the mermaids (why are they always the saving grace of a bad sea movie?). Who would have thought of a mermaid with an electric eel's tail? That's really cool!

Not Peter Pan. Just making an 'artsy', 'epic' 'new' look on Peter Pan. It felt like they tried to do a Tim Burton Wonderland but only based it on their recollections of having read Peter Pan BACKWARDS about TWENTY YEARS AGO. Seriously, it felt like "the villain was a pirate right?" "yeah. Probably called something piratey or something. Blackbeard?" "Yeah Blackbeard, that must have been his name!" "And Pan (forgot his first name) had a sidekick right? He must have!" "Wait, I remember some guy called Hook!" "Alright, that must be his best friend!" The rest felt like they never saw a fantasy movie before and thought they were geniusses to think of the 'chosen one' plotline and heaps of other predictable clichés. Especially pretentious was the 'adultifying' of the source material. Magical land? More like slave mine and surrounding wilderness. 'Magic pixie dust?' 'More like "Pixum", basically a drug harvested from a creature from nature in the dumbest wat possible. 'Wait, a lost civilization of a species thought to be extinct that has a resource invaluable to us? BRING OUT THE FLAMETHROWERS!' This movie was fun to laugh at. I hope it's badness goes memetic
Here's what doesn't make sense to me, why would they hire a British brown haired kid to play Peter pan, he had a reddish orange hair color AND HE DIDN'T HAVE A BRITISH ACTOR i feel like it gets diseny hard to hire British actors for not British characters
I'm a huge fan of Peter Pan lore (books, movies, musical, etc.) but I could tell by the trailer that this film was going to be bad. I'm kind of surprised that you didn't bring up the Rooney Mara casting controversy because that was an issue a lot of people had with the film.
Finding Neverland. It's not an exact Peter Pan telling but it's about J.M. Barrie who wrote it. Johnny Depp gets shit on alot lately but that movie made me cry, it's so good.
I saw it today. And wish I hadn't. Before the movie started the whole theatre was packed. By the end there were maybe 6 or 7 people left (including me). The only ones brave enough to finish it completely. There was a 5 year old girl sitting 4 chairs down from me asking her mother to go see another movie. What really pissed me off is that they had a terrible build up to Peter flying. But when he did fly it was "eh". None of that magic you get when you see Peter Pan "The Boy WHO Never Grows Up" fly into the sky. Giving you that small thought that maybe I can fly too. BUT NOT FROM THIS MOVIE!!! Also why were the Indians poofing into colorful chalk smoke? I am NOW going to rewatch all of the "Peter Pan and the Pirates" episodes. And the other CGI Peter Pan that had more sets and character set ups.
The only pro to this movie was blackbeard: yes he was overdramatic but have you seen the other characters? They make Hugh Jackman's performance look like an Emmy winning performance.
Believe it or not, I actually liked the film... Don't kill me... It wasn't amazing or anything, it was decent at best. I did enjoy Neverland as a world, and the contrast at the setting at the beginning of the movie (dark and dreary) and Neverland which was very colorful and fun. I kinda liked the main villain, Peter, and Hook at times but every other character was annoying as FUCK. Tiger Lilly was bland as fuck, Smee... Let's burn Smee, and the other characters are just forgettable. Peter got kind of annoying with "Mother! Mother!" Every 5 seconds. I couldn't buy that This hook became Captain Hook, at all. Their personalities are too different. And they also left too many things unexplained! That annoyed me the MOST! And EVERYTHING has memories apparently. And when you shoot the Natives, they blow up into colorful puffs of smoke.... Really? REALLY? Other than that, I didn't really find anything terrible about the film... I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5.

Also Hook was a pretty cool character even if he was portrayed as a 1850-style prospector from Knoxville, Tennessee (In my own headcanon he's from Knoxville). To be fair he deserves his own Netflix series (If Garrett Hedlund's unavaliable, then use Jensen Ackles whom he has resemblance to) where he goes off on the Jolly Roger into time-space continuum altering adventures.
As someone who spent an unnatural amount of time obsessing over the lore of Peter Pan, I was super excited to see this movie. I remember him calling his friend Nibs and I freaked out like “OMG THAT’S THE LOST BOY DRESSED LIK A RABBIT!” But then I finished the movie and was severely disappointed. Was it even an origin story? Because literally it ended with him and hook still being friends, and the tiger lily thing creeped me out, and it was just a mess. Don’t hate, but my favorite Peter Pan movie was the early 2000’s live action one. It’s literally just because a grew up with it, and like every other little girl around that time, had a massive crush on Peter. I still enjoy it, for nostalgia and because it feels closer to the book than the Disney version which honestly just has more of a magic feel to me.
I was having my doubts when the movie started but I definitely lost my shit when they sang the Nirvana and Blitzkrieg Bop songs. It lost so much credibility, I can't believe it, what were they thinking!!!??? and after that I couldn't take the movie seriously anymore.

They were friends the whole way through, but at the beginning it said "Sometimes the best of friends can become the worst of enemies".... It just left that unexplained.
Pan is pretty much 'Oz: The Great and Powerful". Why does Hollywood KEEP making fucking origin stories for memorable characters? Not every character needs a movie dedicated to their origin, or even need an origin AT ALL.

The first time I saw a trailer for Pan i was literally like nope. Looked boring and plus they casted a white actress to play a Native American girl....I'm saying this and I'm white. From that I could already tell they were going to put shit effort into it. Personally I love the Peter Pan 2003 film. They got the casting right and the music was really good
remember seeing the trailer "something something PROPHECY" -- pulling out that old cliche? yeah no thanks. Still love Steven Spielberg's Hook. I've seen Peter Pan on stage once or twice, I've enjoyed it in the theater. Also a sort-of-Peter-Pan movie I would also say Finding Neverland is an excellent movie.
Literally JUST finished this movie and I couldn't have said it any better myself. The movie was confusing the entire time and everything was way too convenient like the scene when they were on the water and peter can't remember anything. Well all of a sudden tiger lily tells him they are memory charged waters...WHAT?! When they were on their way to the mermaid whatever, she never ONCE mentioned that! You know what I could say slit more but my thumbs are tired from typing and like tony said this film doesn't deserve it. GOOD DAY SIR
Wonderful rant Tony. I was planning to watch it, since I liked the trailers for it. But since you have such a low rating, I definitely not going watch it in theaters. I might find it on the internet or something if my curiosity gets the better of me. And my favorite version of the Peter Pan story would defines be the disney movies, Peter Pan and Return to Neverland, and Hook.
