I still don't get why Dumbo is being made as a live-action movie in the first place. It just doesn't seem like live-action material to me.

I also still don't get it either. When I first heard of Dumbo getting remade into a live action movie, I was not very happy about it because it's one of the classic Disney movies that does not deserve to get a live action remake. It's weird to imagine a realistic baby elephant with big ears that can fly. In my opinion, Dumbo is one of the Disney classics that should stay only animated. If they don't cancel it, then I'm afraid that Dumbo's realistic CGI design would be terrible.

Yeah this shit is getting really old. I thought Big Hero 6 was a step in the right direction for Disney but all it seems they keep doing is rehashing their classics into live action. Walt Disney would be ashamed at the lack of originality that his company is putting out which is something he always strove for.

I think the original animated Dumbo has one problem that Disney wants to make up to wich is the fact that Dumbo, his mother and all the other animals stayed in the circus at the end. Many people criticise this ending, because today everybody knows that circuses aren't nice places for animals. It should seriously be forbidden to use animals in circuses all around the world. I wish Disney is remaking this movie because of that, they want to take a stand when it comes to animal ethics. Hopefully people will watch it and realize that it is actually a critical and a very comtemporary film.
@hotwax9376
@hotwax9376 6 лет назад
Nobody knew about that back in 1941, when Dumbo was first released. Circuses were just another fun pastime, like sports or movies. There was little awareness of animal cruelty, and even then, it's doubtful most people even cared if animals were being abused.

i had no idea that disney was even CONSIDERING dumbo or even beauty and the beast for that matter like wtf man, yeah many of disneys ideas were storys told way before them but they took those and made them into something different and original, it doesnt matter what ideas they took EVERYBODY TAKES IDEAS FROM SOMETHING IN SOME WAY SHAPE OR FORM but its a matter of being creative and original and turning it into something unique and different even with its similaritys which are impossible to avoid if its based off of another story, frozen is another prime example its based off of the snow queen and if you know the story frozen is far from it other then elsa being 'the snow queen' she is a sympathetic and good character while the actual snow queen is not, im not saying its ok to steal ideas im saying its been done a thousand times and is going to keep being done because everybody is a fan and inspired by something before they decide to do something, its a matter of being creative and original with the storys and concepts you come up with and not just a copy and paste, disney was known for doing that and im sorry right now THEIR NOT DOING IT their repeating their best classics over and over and over again RUINING what was once a GREAT childhood experience and memorable for decades to the next generations and the next, disney was TIMELESS yet somewhere along the lines they lost that spark that magic that made us love and adore them so much, this is about ideas and disneys run out of them, the time and money spent on these movies THAT DONT NEED TO BE MADE!!!! use that time and money for something else! not what we've had already! leave the past in the past dont ruin it by some shitty live action BULL CRAP we dont need it we already HAVE IT!!! which is why i really think disney has just run out of ideas and are trying to fill in the blanks with old classics because hey, they did well in animated form lets make it a live action movie, disney has become lazy and has hit an all time low and i refuse no matter how good any of these live action movies is or were I WONT WATCH IT, it was the classics i fell inlove with and thats how i want it to stay wake the fuck up disney, we dont need the classics reborn, we need DISNEY reborn, mickey mouse is what started disney [after oswald the rabbit] mickey mouse was the kick starter for disney along with his pals goofy and donald, anybody notice how they just tossed aside the biggest star in disney history? sure mickeys still around somewhat but not really anymore hes just faded into the backround and i think thats fucked up to put aside the danm legend himself and most beloved character in disney history, thank god hes atleast somewhat PROPERLY recognized in kingdom hearts, disney has gone so far downhill that i dont even WATCH disney channel anymore FOR YEARS since 2009 thats officially when i stopped watching and you know what im danm happy too because i avoided alot of bullshit that came after it, correct me if im wrong but i've been seeing less and less of mickey as time went by and out of all the storys thats the ONE that should NEVER be put aside, i cant think of one person that wouldnt be thrilled about anything mickey mouse related no matter how many years pass nor how old, add that to the list of fears for a live action movie and if it has been done and i just dont know about it then i prefer to keep it that way sorry for this long comment, im just a passionate disney fan same as alot of people including my own mother who has watched EVERY disney classic with me and i just hate that disney is resorting to lousy un needed remakes that WE DONT NEED, its saddening to everyone that loves disney so much, quite frankly im sick of it, i dread the day they make a live action lion king movie which is one of my favorite disney movies OF ALL TIME along with beauty and the beast, tarzan, Aladdin, toy story, mulan and more... i prefer a sequel then another live action film, atleast then they stay THE SAME

I totally agree with you. I used to be a hardcore disney fan until they started producing crap after crappy direct to video sequels. After that I gave up on being a hardcore disney fan and my respect for disney films went down the toilet. Disney really needs a major reality check in order to know that Walt Disney didn't make films just to make money, he made movies because he wanted to make young children happy through out their lives. Also they need to stop with the whole live action crap and focus on genuine classic animation that made them the studio that they are today. If they make a live action remake of lion king, pocahontas, or the adventures of ichabod and mr toad, I'm gonna lose my damn mind.
@jeremyriley1238

Tim Burton and Dumbo aren't terms that anyone with common sense will put together in a reboot
@TicTacZac12
@TicTacZac12 9 лет назад
Dumbo and Beauty and the Beast are completely unnecessary. 1. Dumbo wouldn't really work as a live action film. It's mostly talking animals, which wouldn't work as well in live action as it does in a cartoon. Tim Burton directing it is even worse, Johnny Depp is going to be in it and there's going to be human characters in it probably. It'll probably be darker than it needs to be and have a crappy CGI Dumbo. If Alice in Wonderland is anything to go by, we are in deep shit. 2. Trying to top Beauty and the Beast is like trying to remake Pulp Fiction, no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot top the original. It also came out in 1991, only 24 years ago. That's too soon. At least it makes more sense to bring to live action than Dumbo but it's still unnecessary.

New ideas? Most of Disney's animation are based on already established ideas. They didn't create Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty or any of those. They even stole Lion King from an old Anime series. So you're surprised that they are taking old ideas and redoing them. . .again? Seriously?
@BlackCriticGuy
@BlackCriticGuy 9 лет назад
Umar Soaries not surprised. disappointed. and what i meant by new ideas, is tell new stories they havent told beofre in the past already. Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and MOST disney films (both animated and live action) are adaptations of fairy tale/novels. but at the time they made them, there wasnt many adaptations of them. As for Lion King borrowing from Kimba...... watch the anime. yes there are similarities, but they are coincidental. the anime has a vastly different story.

Aww, I love Dumbo. Ever since I was a kid, Dumbo is one of my most cherished memories. It's a sweet story about friendship, love, and acceptance -- and of course shows the consequences of bullying, which I think is a very important message for children. Best part is that it's not based on an Andersen of Grimm fairy tale, but it's actually an original story! That being said, I agree with your skepticism about Disney greenlighting a live-action hybrid adaptation. Sure, the movie has sad moments (when Dumbo is bullied for his big ears, forced to do humiliating circus stunts, and separated from his mom until the very end), but I feel like Tim Burton would make the story too dark, much darker than it needs to be -- cause that's the big trend now is to make everything 'dark' and 'serious.' Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad director. Some of his movies are really awesome, but I just don't think he's right for *this* story. Even so, the truth is they could've done a lot worse... :-(

Really? A remake of Beauty and The Beast? Just.... Why? Its getting old. I bet they're gonna make a remake of the remake of Cinderella, to be honest. And yeah, I get that they're doing for the money, BUT ITS STUPID. Beauty and The Beast, like Tony said, is one of they're best films. I loved it. But really, a remake? If they want to make money, they should think about whats going to get them money, and whats not.
@xgray2012
@xgray2012 9 лет назад
***** Oh and you forgot to mentioned 101 Dalmatians. It also had a live-action remake and a sequel to that movie as well. But yeah, I agree. I mean, after watching the live-action "reboot" of Cinderella, which I actually like a lot more than Maleficent, I swear to myself that I will no longer watch anymore live-action Disney remakes of classic films. Then, when I heard that they they're doing a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, I was quivering with fear. I mean, why can't Disney just go back and make more animated films or at least make live-action movie adaptations of some of their animated TV shows from the Disney Channel, like American Dragon: Jake Long, or Kim Possible, or how about rebooting the Mighty Ducks?! No, not the movie trilogy, but the Disney afternoon version.
@entertainer1987

'Beauty and the Beast' is my favorite animated film of all-time. The Broadway musical which ran for over 5,000 performances was an amazing show. They've assembled the perfect cast so far, so I am not too worried about it. Some of Disney's original live-action fantasy films were gigantic bombs, so that could be the reason why they are doing live-action films of their classics. However, 'Dumbo' is not a good choice at all. They had the potential to make millions of dollars when they were making 'The Chronicles of Narnia' films. However, they messed up the second one really badly after making a great first film. They also didn't released it at the right time. So, Fox took over the franchise but they butchered the third film too.

Well this is what happens when Hollywood is afraid of new ideas, and they rely too much on Nostalgia Reboots to get a cash grab. This is reason why I get a sickning feeling when I hear that a beloved franchised, like Ninja Turtles & Transformers, is turning into a reboot by a director who does not respect the film. This is the reason why I was pissed off about the new Ghostbusters Film (2016). It was not because the film had females, it is because Hollywood has been sh*tting on a lovable franchise just to be the money's b*tch. I like Dumbo, and I like Tim Burton, but not together. Hollywood needs to welcome originality, and treat it with respect.

I pretty much agree. The last live action film that I kinda saw from Disney was the Alice in Wonderland. I gave up because I didn't like the idea of Disney redoing classics when they're already a classic. I'm just sticking to the cartoon films that Disney puts out. I love cartoons more than live action. But I swear, if they make a live action movie of the Lion King or The Little Mermaid, I'm 100% done with Disney. Let the classics stay classics. I mean, what's next? Live action the Fox and the Hound? Unacceptable.

The Alice in Wonderland remake was good enough for me, but after seeing Cinderella...I was not impressed. Upon hearing that they are redoing Beauty and the Beast and my all time favorite The Little Mermaid, I was upset! Now there's another Alice movie, The Jungle Book, and Pete's Dragon to be expected! These stories may not be original ideas belonging to Disney, but it is Disney who made them CLASSIC! They should skip the remakes and crappy sequels and stick to stories that have yet to be told whether they are old or new.

Disney made: ALICE IN WONDERLAND - 2010 - Loved the movie. It was a refreshing, original and good sequel. MALEFICENT - 2014 - I didn't like it! It should have been done a lot better in many ways! INTO THE WOODS - 2014 - Disney's first live-action musical. It was a refreshing and original idea and a great and interesting film! I enjoyed it! Cinderella - Not out yet, but looks amazing and true and faithful to the animated classic; bringing back the magical beloved classic tale for new generations. Beauty and the Beast - 2017 - Is going to be amazing! Alice in Wonderland 2: Through the Looking Glass: 2016. I loved the first film, it made a billion $ and this is actually an original and new story; continuing from the first..it's not taken from anything! But Dumbo, The Jungle Book and Cruella and Pete's Dragon etc. etc. when are they going to stop? By this point it should stop and end and Disney should move onto doing other stuff, because they are going to kill it and if they don't do the movies justice, they could ruin the animated films. and Dumbo and The Jungle Book and Cruella and Pete's Dragon aren't even fairy tales, and they are just going to be weird CGI messes!

Here's my theory of why remakes are happening. The directors, producers, and writers are fans who grew up with their favorite movies. They like them so much, they wanted to redesign them into their own image. So when they got the power, they started hiring people to do it. To me it makes sense if they are selfish hardcore fan boys who want to take things they enjoy. But because they are so stupid, greedy, and selfish, they want to become just like the creators, except they want to steal the creators' ideas in a legal way. Since Walt Disney passed away, everybody wants to mess around with his work. Hell I bet when Stan Lee pass away, all the fans will try to ruin his work. And only the good fans are respecting the creators' work. Be those fans. Not copycats!

IMO it could be a 1000 years from now and it will still be too soon for a Beauty and the Beast remake. That movie is ,to me, "the" Disney movie, untouchable, a league of its own, flawless from start to finish with its animation, the characters, the musical score, the voice acting, the story, the everything. It was the first movie I saw as a kid that made me cry tears of not not only sadness from that line "one last time" but also tears of joy at the end, I never saw something so beautiful and joyous, from the strong choir reprise to the soothing duet with Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson. It deserved to win an academy award in something, hopefully in the future they would get one out of honorable mentions.

I'm with you on this one. As if the Classics being made the way they were weren't enough, they had to go and jump on the reboot bandwagon. I thought they were above this, but, sadly no. There was no reason to remake Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, or The Jungle Book (the third in that list being my only non-quibble as it was truer to the book), but there's no need for Dumbo, ESPECIALLY directed by Dumbo. He makes creepy, quirky things, NOT bright-coloured, sweet innocent things. He'll just ruin it. And WHY a LIVE action??? A CGI Dumbo could have been beautiful, especially if it was a silent movie - THAT would be all about emotion, and it could be really moving, but ... ugh! 'Nuff said.

Personally, I don't like that Disney has been trying to remake their animated films into live-action/CGI. It just messes up the whole purpose of why their animated films (mostly 2D) have stuck out as legacies since 1937. Not only has Disney been doing this for several years, but other studios as well. I just don't really see the point of Disney trying to remake their films into live-action. Sure, they've had live action films in the past such as Pirates of the Caribbean, but they were first in LA and not animated, so those are fine. I have seen the 1951 version of Alice in Wonderland and I like it just the way it is. With the live-action version, I just feel that the film doesn't live up to the original since the animation style of the different parts to Wonderland were very creative and matched with the zaniness. Plus, Johnny Depp is not a very good Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat wasn't as cool as the animated one. With the 1959 Sleeping Beauty, I don't like it due to the fact that it's really boring, which puts me to sleep, and characters are very bland. I know that everybody seems to love Maleficent, but I've seen way better Disney villains than her and I didn't really understand why she had a whole film centered on her. If Disney EVER does a live action retelling of The Lion King, I will drop a nuclear bomb in my mind. If they mess up my absolute favorite Disney movie as well as all time favorite film with a live action version, I will be freaking done and I will go insane. Don't...you...dare...Disney.

So I read this article that revealed the synopsis for Tim Burton's Dumbo and honestly it is nothing we have not already seen in other family friendly movies before featuring cute animals. According to the article I read, it will be about this family with two kids that are raising Dumbo, but then of course there are these greedy businessmen who discover the baby elephant's ability to fly and so they will stop at nothing to capture them to serve their own selfish, greedy purposes. Sound familiar? Of course it does because it has already been done in about a million other family movies about cute animals hiding from greedy humans. Air Bud anyone? /bangs head against wall/ Just why? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Tim Burton's work. Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline remain as favorites of mine. But I feel he'd be better off remaking The Black Cauldron or Pinnochio since those two are definitely dark and creepy movies. It would fit in with his style a lot more. Though I won't deny that I am kind of curious to see what Burton's version of the Pink Elephants on Parade would look like. I mean that sequence was messed up as it is in the original, but just imagine what Burton's version would look like... /shivers/ Scary, right?

So, they do several classic stories like Snow White (multiple times), Dalmatians 101, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Cosmos Jones (which actually got better over time by using wasted potential), Jungle Book (several times), make terrible sequels, and now they are ripping off other franchises that are lesser than them with movies like Decendents (which I first saw on Nickelodeon and was awful). I don't understand Disney. You ruled and still rule the frickin world. Even with major flops like the "Dr. Seuss" movies you are awesome creatively and financially. We love the great productions you made, but you have to get our criticism and let it build you up. We're all friends here and we all care about you, so be professional and adult here. Walt Disney himself would be groaning in his grave. Just do your very best and that is all we could ask for. This can help you grow stronger and smarter as we are. Create better material and make it a legitimately great thing. Remember we love you, Disney. Get better and don't you change a thing that. doesn't need to be. Just keep being the better parts of you. We're in a new age that has enlightened and evolved us all. Just let it go.😉 And don't keep giving us the rehashed, stupid, BULLCRAP, or you're never gonna hear the end of it until you make another amazing renaissance.😡

I just find myself in a similar situation of just asking why? I was already pissed off when I found out that they were doing a live action Dumbo remake, even more so when I found out it was being written by one of the writers for the Transformers film series, but now hearing that Tim Burton is supposed to direct it? WHAT THE FUCK DISNEY? You're not even trying anymore. I love Tim Burton as much as the next movie aficionado (even with some of his missteps), but nothing about Dumbo's style and his style meshes together. The only aspect of the original Dumbo that I think would reflect Burton's style is that creepy as fuck Pink Elephants scene and even then that's only a brief part of the movie. I swear to GOD if they so much as think about remaking The Little Mermaid in live action, I'm quitting Disney forever. That was my all time favorite Disney movie from my youth and I fucking cringe at the thought of it being remade by them considering the negative reception the past remakes have gotten (although I hear that Universal is planning a live action version with Sofia Ford Coppola directing that is supposed to follow the original fairy tale closer. I'm slightly hesitant but keeping an open mind. Hell I even wrote a story that I like to think of as a Sci-Fi reimagining of The Little Mermaid taking heavy inspiration from both the Hans Christian Andersen original and the Disney version). I pray that never happens and that the period of reboots/remakes/rehashes will die down before then like the Nostalgia Critic said in his recent video, but it's hard for me to remain optimistic.

Hello: I'm here on August 1st of 2019 to tell you, BlackCriticGuy, that yes, Dumbo was a terrible movie. It took away everything that was great about the original. All the charm, emotion, and of course, the wonder of the original and squandered it. 100% squandered it. I've bet you've already seen it, but I just want to enlighten you and everyone present that it's true. They, as one review on IMDB, said: "Killed Dumbo." I 100% agree.
