Excellent question! We shoot most of our videos on the Sony FS700 although the segment where we test the Panny mic was on the GH3. We tested the focusing and indeed the focus does lock during recording using AF lock. You can at anytime change between autofocus and manual with the flick of a switch. It's really very well designed and did I mention how nicely it continually focuses! Smooth and predictable. Thanks for the inquiry. Chris @ The Camera Store

Another great, useful and informative camera review. I'm really liking these videos, so much better than another Digital store's much viewed vids. The Camera Store tells me what I need to know. The GH3 looks like a fine camera too, though the price isn't mentioned....it's not cheap!!

I certainly hope it doesn't turn out to be a problem, I've been excited and waiting for this camera for a long time now, and there's clearly so much that's right with the camera! I guess I got worried with all the of early footage examples that are kicking around on Vimeo etc showing aliasing and Moire - which could be a deal breaker for many... I wouldn't mind owning shares in Mosaic Engineering right now!

i felt the same about that back dial when i was on a one day training course for this camera. everything else about the GH3 was pretty much excellent. i also really liked the wifi options.

I currently have a DMC-G10 and need to upgrade to something that can do 1080@60. Auto focus is a huge factor in what I do,so that said is the GH3 worth the $700+ more than the G5K?

We'll look at the GH3 again once we get a production unit. I think the moire and aliasing thing is getting a bit hyperbolic. We had to shoot for a good amount of time deliberately trying to produce moire, and it was still much better controlled than almost any other large sensor camera. Keep in mind as well that the firmware is still beta in all the cameras floating around. Jordan @ The Camera Store TV

@ jordan from camera store: I have a question, what camara in this range is better for you in low light situations? Because, the Canon 6d and the nikon d600 are twice times more expensive than this camara. For my the GH3 has a war with the nikon d7000 and the canon 7D. But for you what camara is better in this range for low light situations. I am sorry I am a Beginner.

I love the Panasonic 3/4s. However, i can't get the video to be true motion like... It seems like it skip frames or something... Any thoughts out there? Is it the same on gh3 as well? Thx

As always, love your reviews. I'm chomping on the bit waiting for mine - I've had one on order since Sept. 24. Your comments about the focusing improvement are very encouraging. That's one thing that's bugged me about the GH2. But WHY did you not make this video available in HD - at least 720p? Bummer!

Good review. Just curious if the image stabilizer in the GH3 is effective enough to shoot while literally on the move (i.e. walking and running). In my experience with DSLR's, without having a separate image stabilizing device connected (i.e. Steadicam), this is a very big challenge to overcome with a bare camera.

Do you have a recommendation for an external monitor that can go on the hot shoe? SmallHD, Marshall?

hello i'm thinking of buying this camera to shoot wedding as in video not stills but my question is will this camera overheat like my 7D does, or will i be able to shoot without been concerned that the camera will overheat if you could please answer this question. thank you

Panasonic and Olympus both have cameras micro 4/3 does that mean an olymp lens can be put on a panasonic body without an adapter? I'm just asking because all the primes on Samys store are soldout for panasonic and so I want to know if I can use Olympus primes on a gh3 if they are m43 mounts.

Hey, I´m thinking of buying a camera like this that I can use to record video in a high quality. I just wonder If you can focus while you´re recording or not. Because for example, in the Canon EOS 5D Mark lll I understood you can´t. And I was wondering which camera did you use to shoot the whole video.

Which fw were you using?. ive heard that wb and peaking issues are in the list. And the touch focus, worth mentioning, with 3 speed, cmon thats neat!

Great comprehensive review, my dilemma is gh3 vs Canon xa20, I shoot almost totally video, trade shows, interviews, manufacturing plants and basketball. I am so attracted to gh3 but 20x zoom and two Xlr port keep me coming back to xa20. Thoughts?

Is there a cheaper dslr that does 1080 at 60 and is weather sealed? I would use this for mostly film making.

I am looking for an all round camera for $1000 US or less to record videos for youtube and do some nice stills. I need 1080hp video with mic input and fully articulating screen for selfies. Built in flash preferable and fast focus and fps. I am considering Pan GH3 or FZ1000. Any other suggestions? Which is best overall?

Ooh the GH3, exciting!

Great review (as always - love your enthusiasm) but why no mention of the moire and aliasing problems that others have reported (one of the biggest positives about the GH2 image)? Did you not see any such problems? Could this be a dream come true? Or is the problem still there and just didn't show up due to the environment you were shooting in?

Is it better than a nikon d600 or d800 recording on a atomos ninja 2?

We didn't mention the moire as we didn't see any in the footage from this video (feel free to correct me, internet!), but we have since done a moire test in store and while there is a VERY slight amount when shooting fine fabrics, it's very well controlled. Worlds better than the earlier Canon camera and the Nikon D800. Also remember, no one currently has production firmware, so the image quality could change. Jordan @ The Camera Store TV

How did you get the bird to land on the battery grip?

I search everywhere online please I can't find anything nowhere, can someone please tell me How much DR stops can the GH3 record please I know the black magic pocket can record at 13 stops DR (Dynamic Range) so what about the GH3?

I was surprised there was no mention about the slow motion video option. I did a music video with the FZ200 with the slow motion and it's one compelling feature that has me buying the GH3 it when it comes out.

This has certainly been long awaited. It will be interesting to see how it compares directly to something like the t4i, since by all appearances, it looks like its starting price is going to be substantially higher. That being said, as a video-geared ILC, it might just be worth it. Maybe.

Sitting here wondering If I should switch out my GH3. bought it for video, only used it for stills. Been shooting for over a year now with it. Any suggestions for similar size and ergonomics but more suited for photography?
