Panasonic FIRED the guy that developed the DFD C-AF on the Lumix cameras before he published the instructions...that guy was still laughing at us until last week.

4k60p is not line skipped in the GH5. The change is from 8bit h264 to 10bit 4:2:0 h265 (200mbit). This is actually pretty important for color grading. It looks like VLog-L is now included. The display seems to be the same as in the S5, a bit smaller but more resolution(much more than in the G9). The battery is the new from the S5 and there is USB-power for long recordings. This shows a few things: The GH5 is still selling good and they plan to produce it for several more years as GH5-II. They had to exchange a few parts because of availability or for cost reduction. A GH6, if it comes, will not replace the GH5, they will coexist so the GH6 will be more expensive and a completely different camera like 8k or fast 6k. I expect the GH6 to be above $2000 for some time and the GH5-II will drop closer to $1000.

The good news about this announcement is that the original GH5 will be quite affordable for new vloggers and it’s still one of the best and most advanced run and gun cameras with pro level video quality on the market. Fuji still doesn’t have a camera that competes with GH5, it has cropped 4k60, no 422 10, worse stabilization and poor lens selection for video. We’ll see if the XH2 can match the GH5.

Honestly the G9 with the Laowa lens of life is the perfect combination. Finally I can see what's going on around you, all while granting us just that little bit of tonehture.

I am a GH5 user and had the EXACT same reaction to their announcement as you intro!

I hate that I have too many use cases and because of that can't afford the Sony AS7III. I'll just keep saving and someday sell my GH5 setup. Needing to be able to record 1.5 hour long 4k performances takes so many cameras out of the equation for me. For those performances I need decent low light performance (indoors) and 140-200mm FF zoom. While 2.8 isn't as "awesome" as I'd like, the 35-100mm 2.8 for the Panny is doing an awesome job for much less than I'd have to pay for that setup on Sony FF. I also use the camera to film my daughter, 4k 60p is a must for me on that. I really like the Leica 12mm 1.4 for that indoors and I use the 35-100mm 2.8 outdoors for that. I do hate that she's not 100% in focus, but for now I put up with the pulses :(. GH5, Leica 12mm 1.4, Lumix 35-100mm 2.8, and the Lumix 100-300mm zoom for wildlife fun for $2200 is pretty hard to beat for me. I look forward to a couple years from now if Sony has an A7S iV and you can actually find lower priced used A7S III's.

The GH5 II is actually a blessing from the Lumix gods, they're so benevolent that they release the same camera with a "MKII" on it so that the prices of the original GH5 go down and we peasants can finally afford one.

Try the 15mm 1.7 on the Olympus. It focuses perfectly with my EM 5 Mark III. That setup is only 520 grams!

On the flipside, I think the GH5 Mark II is a bold move before they release the next model, presumably a GH6, or maybe even a GH5 Mark III. It provides necessary hardware upgrades that brings the GH5 in line with the rest of the new releases, and subjects it to potential firmware updates that the original GH5 will not be capable of. .

You need to duct tape that button down, then the autofocus will work perfectly.

Just the fact that the BMC4K can do what it does proves that the GH5II could be so much more. IMO the GH5 is not for vlogging or anything portrature. I learned this by trying it for months and always dissapointed. It could however appeal to budget filmmakers in the way the BMC4K does. Simply take the GH5 and improve these things: 4K60 RAW (at least via HDMI), 4K60 422 Internal, update sensor to same as BMC4K to allow better dynamic range and lower light performance. The GH5 i still currently use for Real Estate videos with the Atomos Ninja V, and it gets great results if there's enough light to work with, so there's a market for m4/3 for the light weight form too. One thing I can say is it would be amazing with raw 4k when doing real estate.

In 2017 when GH5 was released this camera comes actually from the future, from 2021. How many cameras had the GH5 specs in 2017? Now with GH5 mkII everything is ok... m4/3 users just had some advantages in front and now we are back to normally.

I do wish Nikon would do flippy screens... I'm mainly a stills guy, but as I have so much expensive Nikon glass, the only option for me when I wanted to do a bit of video on the cheap was to pick up a D5600. Not a bad little camera, only 1080p, but it's the only Nikon camera with a full fold out and twist flippy screen. It's insane, they obviously know how to do it! It's actually damn useful for still shooting too. Nikon, give the Z7 a flippy screen and I'll be chewing your arms off with my collection of F mount lens and an FtoZ adapter in my hands!

JVC made a super35 camera with a micro4/3 sensor. Panasonic has a super35 in the eva1 Panasonic is a micro4/3 company. Why the next GH series isn't a eva1 super35 sensor behind a micro4/3 sensor is mind boggling.

It all comes down to high iso performance for me. If the mark II is basically a GH5 with GH5S low light performance, I'm pretty happy with that. But of course, I'm not a vlogger and I don't really need tracking auto focus for video :-)

I think they're doing it for the same reason that Sony is making a new version of the A7riii which is that there is a shortage of different components to make a camera so if they wanna produce more gh5 then they are going to have to change the components in it and have it be different than the original
