Only got my hands on the Panasonic Lumix LX100 MKII this morning and wanted to do a quick video on my first thoughts of this amazing compact camera with a Micro 4/3 Sensor.
Checkout part 2 where I take the camera around Huia - New Zealand

Quick, easy, perfect in so many aspects, I grabbed the LX100 and carried it with me everyday for street work. Now it's the LX100 II. A tilt screen, more dust protection would have been useful but still this camera is beloved, having supplanted my lovely Leica Q in terms of everyday user friendliness.

To all those video guys out there. This is a old school Leica inspired photographers' camera. Its like trying to ask a Leica M10 why it does not have a flip out screen and a mic input. This is perhaps the best designed and performing compact photographers' camera. Great job Panasonic kept it that way. What we need is an improved sensor, better colours and some features from the GX9.

I would love a flip out screen on my M10 :)
@chrishuang8763
@chrishuang8763 6 лет назад
That's not what Leica photography is all about. Leica users much preferred to "shoot Still" like what Henri Cartier-Bresson would do. The M10 can't even do videos.

Hi Chris, a flip out screen is nothing to do with video. Both my M10 and Q have live view and would great if you could shoot with live view while shooting lower. :)

But it has severe crop in video (4K) mode. So it worse than original LX100.

L Monochrome D pics with this camera are amazing! And the look and feel (heavy-metal) of tthis camera is amazing too!

You can tell Panasonic didn't put much effort in this one. They took the mark I, swapped the sensor and added touch. The rest is existing software.Flip up/out screen, better dust resistance, better EVF, mic jack, fast zoom mechanism would've made this a worthwhile upgrade to the original LX100, but not this!

Is no aa filter a good update?
@dorkin_aint_easy

Such a bummer. I had high hopes for this camera. I loved my LX100, but the lack of mic and weather sealing killed this camera... If they could fix one thing it was dust resistance. I use mine for a packable action sports camera and battling dust on the sensor completely killed this camera for me.

and crop in 4k video is also deal breaker for me...

Bit of a let down isn't it they didn't really do anything people wanted, flip screen, ND filter, sealing. Very lame effort what a shame

I really dig my Leica D-LUX (type) 109. I hope they update that camera as well.

I love my D-Lux 109. I am a retired pro photographer with a ton of Nikon equipment but at age 77, I have been more involved in NYC street photography for which these cameras are perfect. By the way, the Panasonic version is made in China while the Leica is from Japan.

I was hoping for a built in ND filter, dust proof case since many had issues with dust in the sensor, and a built in flash. The additional resolution is a good thing, 17 MP, but since the lens is identical, I'm hoping the updated processor will improve the image quality.
@chrishuang8763
@chrishuang8763 6 лет назад
What's good about this compact camera is you can add whatever filter you want in front of the lens just like you would do on a DSLR.
@MrNYCman530
@MrNYCman530 6 лет назад
A threaded lens? That's a plus.
@chrishuang8763
@chrishuang8763 6 лет назад
Essentially, this improved version is a more compact GX9 with the superb 24-75mm equivalent f/1.7-2.8 lens. Eventhough I have the LX100, I am tempted to buy this due to the improved features. The USB charging has its benefits but I always prefer to use an external charger. One can charge spare batteries while one is using the camera.

Thanks. #LX100III ? I guess a tilting screen and a dual command dial for ISO + SS like the X100V could be interesting for a probable mark 3 of the LX100?

The Fujifilm has a larger sensor and but the LX100II is smaller

Meanwhile, you can get GX85 for half the price, with tilt screen, IBIS, can interchange lens and with almost same dimension as lx100 ii.

most important question. Does it have clean HDMI? I got the LX100 and it doesn't have HDMI out when in live view.

The aperture ring, although functions with “click stops”, is in reality electronically controlled. The “clicks” actually function as switches, not physical set stops.
@DarrylCarey

I know, but still cool to have a aperture ring like my Leica lenses :)

Firstly, I use my Panasonic LX100 for hiking, therefore, image quality through Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and reasonable zoom range with exceptional lens are my prime requirements. I was looking forward to ‘upgrade’ my LX100 to the much hyped LX100 II (or LX200) ..... however, Panasonic has just ‘dropped the ball’ and missed a perfect opportunity to steal the march from the likes of Sony, Canon et al. So, having looked at majority of the release reviews ..... I shall pass and may be look forward to LX100 III in 4 years time! Indeed, the design team will have time to think - ‘What went wrong?’. When Panasonic eventually decide to add in the next version the following: 3-Axis IBIS, 2-Axis Lens OIS, Swivel Touch Screen, weather sealing and Leica lens 24-105mm f2.8 (or f2.0) (35mm equiv.) .... then I shall upgrade. I don’t mind paying a ‘premium’ price for a Premium Pro Compact Camera ..... as long as it will delivery exceptional image quality, with all the functionality I would like to use handheld on hikes. I do wonder how much influence has Leica (D-Lux Type 109) had on Panasonic for this commercial disaster with ‘minor’ update to a much respected LX100?

There are several quite substantial improvements in the new model. It just depends on what you consider important. In my view, the touchscreen alone is enough to encourage me to upgrade.

@DarrylCarey

Thats a hard question, not used the X100F. I would say the LX100II because of the lens, its nice having a 24mm to 75mm
@seantubridy3242
@seantubridy3242 6 лет назад
I have the X100F and am thinking about getting this. Get X100F if you like the bigger sensor and Fuji colors and built-in nd filter. Otherwise, this beats it features wise by a lot. I often wish I had a compact with a zoom and this has a great range.
