Outstanding video and I will tell you why. You speak clearly, slowly, and clearly explain the tech. With so many tutorials, the presenter just rushes through and you don't have time to absorb what they are saying, unless you pause, pause, pause. So Shutterbug 101, good job! Thank you. A new subscriber.
Great job Heather this is must watch video for a guy like me that wants to learn Everything about his new Panasonic LX 10 camera Thanks again I appreciate the hard work you put into this video making it great video
Wow! This was the best tutorial for this camera I've seen. I just stumbled on your site and will follow you now as I seek to learn more about my LX10. I bought a manual for this camera and have seen other tutorials on line. But, yours is the best. You walked me through so many steps and functions that I will not, at last, start using it as I should. I have owned the LX3, and LX7, and regretted going to this more sophisticated model. But, now I am confident I can use this and appreciate it. Thank you so much.
This is the best tutorial for LX10 model. Appreciate the patience and detailed explanation. You channel is highly under rated on the number of subscribers , will do my bit to share 👍
agree with what others have said, this is very helpful. ive had the camera a little while but as the camera is a side step from my canon DSLR there was a lot I didnt understand and the manual wasn't great. its given me new motivation to explore and experiment!
Thank you for this great video -- solved so many questions I had while learning this new tech (I'm an old guy learning new tricks!) I have a great tip for others -- this camera is so tiny, shiny and slippery and has so many buttons I was clumsy and couldn't hold it without messing with the settings -- I purchased online (B&C or Amazon? @ $15) a perfect rubber coated special camera grip that makes it easy to hold and operate -- it has standard tri-pod mount and I added a soft rubber washer that grips the camera from spinning without cranking it too tight on the threads --- available at any hardware store.
Just like to say thank you for this. I've just got one of these (the LX15 but I believe it's the same thing). I have an SLR but I have to say, over the last few years, I haven't bothered with it. Too bulky and I just feel I can't be bothered. So I was hoping the Lumix would give me the convenience of the compact but with more of the functionality of the SLR. I'm a real technophobe so I'm so glad of your video. You explain things very well, keep it simple. Perfect for me. Must have taken you a long time but it is appreciated.
THANK YOU! My husband just ordered this camera, and you really helped us with your walk-through. So much functionality. Seems like a great little camera. Very grateful for your expertise.
THANK YOU for making this video. Thank you for the precise and detailed explanation of each function. This video is exactly what I have been looking for, for the past 2 years. Good job!
Funny I’ve been everywhere you showed video of.. isn’t that fairmont suite ridiculously awesome.. I love that library.. oh and the pool room?? The tile! Love it
This is a very helpful video. I have the Lumix FZ2500 and the FZ300, and I am amazed at how much of their functionality is included in this little pocket camera. It's a fantastic little camera!
What an awesome video. I primarily got this camera to shoot underwater. So this is my first camera away from gopro (which I love). This camera has so much, so it was great to seat through this video and know exactly what i'm doing on my camera. By far best walk through for LX10 Liked and subscribed.
Oleg Kaplun so glad you enjoyed it! I hope you are using a case to go underwater with this camera haha I would hate to hear it took a dip without one! Let me know if you have any questions!
@@Shutterbug101 :-). I propably do have questions. I just don't know them yet. This camera does so much. This is what i have for my underwater www.backscatter.com/Nauticam-NA-LX10-Panasonic-LX10-Underwater-Housing-Package
@@Shutterbug101 Actually I already have a question for you. How long do those batteries last? Is there a way to connect an external power source to LX10. I like doing night time time lapses.
So it looks like the battery life is built to last up to 260 shots per charge, which is not a lot of time if left on for a large amount of time. However, you may be able to extend the life by keeping the LCD display off. Unfortunately, there are no AC adaption options and as much as I wish it had the charge as you go feature by micro USB, it doesn’t have that option either. Your best bet is to keep the LCD off and be prepared with another battery.
Perfect you just got yourself another subscriber good explaining, you can skip the whatever music is playing,, your voice is much more interesting and yes I know it is a lot of extra work showing the different setting with actual pictures would give the video even more dept and yes of course I want another video thanks already from Mexico pacific coast.
Hi Heather this is by far the best LX10 tutorial on RU-vid - thank you so much. Definitely subbing to your channel. Which settings would you recommend if I were to record a hockey game on a stationary tripod?
Hello Aziz! Thank you for your kind comment! I am actually hanging out with my Panasonic Rep today so I thought I would let him answer your question. His recommendation would be to turn the stabilization off, if recording video whether on 4K or HD record on 30p, keep your autofocus at AFF, exposure mode on video at Shutter Priority at 60. Set the metering to evaluative metering and set the ISO when you get to the location by looking at the results on the screen. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Great video, so helpful, thank you. Did you do any other videos regarding the Lumix LX10? Any suggestions about what a beginner like me should watch next would be appreciated.
Hello! I didn't do anymore than this with the LX10, but I have individual videos discussing the unique tools it has like the 4K burst, or one point color! Maybe look into those!
thank you so much for doing this, its by far the best video/info for the lx10 that i have seen anywhere on the internet, have subscribed! Do you have any reccomendations on settings for food video/photography using this camera? Am trying to make some buzzfeed/tasty style videos and images
Lighting is everything with food! You will also need a tripod and I would shoot on your P or A mode and set your aperture to F/8. If you don't use a still life studio box for lighting, you will want 3 points of light for food, preferably LED. Look up lighting setups for product photography, and that will give you an idea. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Great explanation - Thank you! Jut bought a used LX10 - great camera - can you please explain how to remove/change icons of information from the display? Not what they mean or do just how to change them. Thanks!! 🙏
Decent tutorial. I have one but don’t use it enough. It falls into 4k too easily for me. But such a great sized little tool! Used mine when marching in parades for MADD, BLM, and anti-school violence pre-pandemic. Will try it as a B camera for video with my LUMIX G-100.
FN1 is 4K mode by default, I was also finding I was accidentally hitting that too often & thought about changing what FN1 does or leaving it blank but I'm doing it much less now.
Today I got this camera and really went through the whole video ...so dont need to read the manual anymore.. ..I would say this camera is better then the Sony RXV.. Anyway, I dont see a difference between A-mode and P-mode. In P-mode also the aperture is changing when using the top wheel.. where as in A-mode the aperture is changing when using the wheel on the lens. This cant be the only difference.. So whats the difference? Thanks a lot. You helped me!
Fantastic video. Thanks. Can you share a little about in-camera editing capabilities? I'm considering this as a travel camera instead of using my phone.
While Panasonic cameras have some editing options, like filters or even object removal, I have found that it asks A LOT of the processing power of the camera. Depending on the phone you have, iphones have pretty amazing editing tools, or even using the Adobe Lightroom app, and sending the photos to your phone via the app. That is personally what I would recommend!
Arnab Banerjee you cannot use the 4K burst mode with the timer due to needing your finger pressed on the shutter button for the time you can’t to capture the burst. However, if you take a 4K video and you know how to save stills from it in post processing on your computer, it’s essentially the same process. The camera is just splitting into photos to choose from for you in camera. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thank you for tutorial, very useful to know the functions of the camera, I just bought it last December and I'm very happy with this camera. What would you recommend to have settings for B&W photos or tips? Thank you again!
Settings will generally be the same as if you had it in color, it’s all about your goal (stopping/showing motion, capturing light, blurry/sharp background) and if you like how it looks on the screen at the exposure it recommends. Just keep in mind that if you capture your images in black and white, they will only stay that way if your shooting in JPEG. If you shoot in RAW, it will convert it back to color for you to control in editing.
No matter what I do, it seems to always want to take burst shots! There must be some place on the menu somewhere that I am somehow missing! Can you help?
On the back of the camera, hit the down directional button where you see the multiple rectangles stacked on top of each other. Make sure your drive setting is set to the single rectangle. Let me know if you have any other questions!
With these cameras it can be tricky to get a for sure number due to the electronic shutter option this camera uses, however, you should be able to take a photo with the camera onto an SD card, put the SD card in your computer and google "Panasonic Shutter Count" and you should be able to find a site like camerashuttercount.com . Sometimes it cannot give you an answer due to the nature of the camera, but Panasonics are usually not difficult.
I have not but I will add it to my list! When it comes to point and shoot cameras, it is actually very simple. There is no way to internally clean this camera, but on the lens glass and viewing screen, you will use lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. On the rest of the body, you will use rubbing alcohol and a clean cotton cloth and some Q-Tips to get into some of the grooves. If you have any questions, let me know!
This is very good. A problem that I have in following is that the screen view on my camera is not the same as what shows on your camera. For example, I don’t see the P in a red box in the upper left nor all of the other icons across the top. Is there a display setting in the tools menu for the screen you are using? Is it a default screen and, if so, how do I select it in the menu?
There is a DISP. button on the back of the camera that changes the display of the shooting screen, just press it over and over until you find a display you are happy with!
I'm keen to find a setup for filmmaking mode so would be keen on best setup and althought this setup was extensive from using the camera from a photography mode it tended to skim over the film making setup
These cameras were really built for photos, with video as a feature. The options for video are very similar to what is offered for photos, when it comes to exposure. Were there specific questions you had that I could explain in further detail?
Great video. My camera, which I just bought, does not have the auto focus menu button you reference at 26:00 minutes into your video. Do you know why I don't have the auto focus menu?
Thanks so much, v helpful. I’ve recently attempted using my camera for selfie video and struggling to keep it focused as I lean back once I’ve started shooting. It’s especially bad if I’m say next to a hedge, when despite AF being on face eye recognition, it focuses on the hedge! Of course it’s not noticeable as you’re shooting. Frustrating.
@@Shutterbug101 Unfortunately this doesn’t always work. I’d really hoped to crack this AF problem but without success. I’ll try manual mode but disappointing as that’ll limit my shots. I get the problem when walking whilst vlogging.
Im so sorry to hear this! While I did not do much vlogging testing with this camera, I would recommend trying the Panasonic G100 which I have tried for vlogging and the face focus and directive audio for vlogging are AMAZING!
This has been really helpful!! I seem to have messed up somewhere in my settings and now all of my photos have tons of waves over them and I dont know how to fix it! Do you have any tips?
@@Shutterbug101 i have a picture i could send you for reference, i just don't know how to contact you! I appreciate you responding! It has the lines going in almost circular patterns and it turns the photos green! When i look through the screen it'll be perfect settings, and only does that on the click of the picture (and it still looks like that on the computer) yesterday it stopped for a while and I was able to take a few photos/video but I charged it and put the memory card back in today and it did the same thing!
If the camera does not allow you to go longer than 1 second, you will need to change the shutter setting in the menu. It is either set to MSHUTTER or ESHUTTER. Try switching it to the other option or set to Auto. Then you should be able to adjust the shutter speed up to 60 seconds long or BULB for a custom time.
These walkthroughs are a quick overview, but if you have questions with how it works, I am happy to help! The menu walkthrough coming soon will go over these options with more detail as well.
My images are coming out all black. I'm photographing paintings with two 5300 K floodlights on either side. The camera is set to ISO 125, f8, and 16000 shutter speed. What could be the matter? This is my first camera.
I desperately need your help. How do I change where the crosshairs are on the screen so I can focus on something particular without having to move the camera? I use the camera in an underwater housing for shooting fish and sometimes I want to focus on the fish's eye and not the middle of his body. The crosshairs only stay in the middle as I obviously can't use the touch screen underwater. I would like a specific video on how to set the function key for this option.
@@Shutterbug101 Hi! I'm interested in setting this camera up for using with my underwater housing as well. I am using the NA-LX10, a very popular housing. I used to know how to move the focus box (or cross hairs) to focus on the eye of the fish, but covid has kept me from diving for a while, and now I can't remember how to do it. I would LOVE it if you could do a comprehensive video on using the functions of the camera without the touch screen as it would apply to underwater use. Thank you!! Your video was most helpful for this complex little powerhouse camera!!!
my white balance screen is nothing like the one you have - all I see is a colour gradient , black and white palette on the left, colour palette on the right 🤔
It is the picture quality that is grayed out? Very odd that it would be stuck in RAW. I would say go to your wrench tab (the one with the C) in the menu and reset your settings. The pro and con to these cameras is there are a LOT of features, which also means any one thing can lock up another.
I wanted to go to manual mode to set aperature at f1.4 and shutter at 4 seconds to take pic of night sky. I had to go to fn1 me u to set 4k on off so I can acess shutter mode to change it to allow me to go beyond 1 second. I took great pics of night sky at 4 seconds. But then I changed other settings and now my manual mode wont take pics beyond 1 second even when I tried to reset. Can you tell me how to set settings for manual f1.4 at 4 seconds shutter?
Hello Tony! Yes, your shutter settings changed in your menu. If I recall, you will need to change it from electric shutter (ESHUTTER) to manual shutter (MSHUTTER) or the other way around. Let me know if you need help finding exactly where it is in the menu.
@@Shutterbug101 Thank you shutter bug. I am depressed. I still cant figure out how to get to take manual pictures at the f1.4 lens and number of seconds I set it on in manual mode. On the fn1 button I have 4k off, on shutter settings I put either on manual or electronic. My screen in camera shows settings at f1.4 and 4 seconds I set dial to. When I press shutter button it just takes a regular picture. Not like it did in the past where shutter would stay open 4 seconds. I think this got messed up when I saw a video on lumix lx10 focus settings that I followed to change settings for focusing in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oTcs5UeUebQ.html
@@Shutterbug101 yes, I have post focus mode on off. But still when I go to manual setting and have f1.4 at 4 seconds then take the picture, the shutter still only comes out at 1/4 as it is noted on the pictures when I look at them in an app. So my thinking is that if the shutter wont stay open for more than 1 second regardless of what shutter setting I put it on, it might be affected by one of the settings that is on auto or on, even though I tried having shutter setting on manual or electronic.
Check and see if your ISO is set to a low number or to Auto, if it is set to a high number it may limit your shutter speed. If this doesn’t work, you may need to reset the settings in the camera and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn’t, there may be something wrong with the camera. There is one big pro/con about these new cameras and that is that there are a LOT of options/features to change and that can stop other options from working the way you want them to so sometimes, it’s just best to reset.
It should be the first tab on the left in the menu that your accessing. Also make sure your mode dial is on iA, P, A, S, or M. Let me know if your still having issues!
I am having difficulty finding a way to check for any of the Panasonic point and shoots, but my rep said give this a try: Set dial to P>hold down the red record button and the up directional button at the same time while you turn on the camera>hold the red record button, the menu/set button, and the left directional button at the same time>an error code will appear and you will hold the record, menu and left button again> the number next to SHTCNT is your shutter count. To get your camera back to normal, turn your camera off. Hope this works!
