I've got the same camera with a similar problem. I've had it working but when I rewound the tape it stopped working and now trips off a few seconds after turning it on. I'm taking it in to get looked at because when it works it works brilliantly! Pity battery packs are not available anywhere. I don't suppose you know anything about refurbishing the batteries? Ps love the vids!

Hi. I have the same camera. Unfortunately, it is damaged. When I run, the image is black. This occurs sometimes. It will start once and not. I thought it was a lamp. I replaced the lamp from another working camera and unfortunately it's not it. I also replaced the capacitors in the lens. It still doesn't work. What do you think could be the cause of the malfunction.

So do you get a picture from the camera sometimes? What happens if you play a pre-recorded tape?
@vhsretro2694

@@nowt1002 The camera plays back without any problem. I have now bought a second one but it displays the image in green. Do you think you need to set it up with an oscilloscope?

I believe the US equivalent is around the model number AG-150, the VHS reporter series. I've managed to stumble upon two of them, and both automatically shut down after powering on for 10 or so seconds. Real shame, because when one of them was working fine, it had that great colour tube quality. Once I get the time, I'll tear them down and see if your repair method works. Btw, have you seen the magenta and green image error before? Is that usually a phase adjustment thing? I've an older Panasonic which produces everything in those colours.
@nowt1002
@nowt1002 2 года назад
Yes it looks very similar in photos, it probably is the equivalent. If there's a tape stuck in it and you can hear the motor running during the 10 seconds that it's on then it's almost certainly the loading belt. With the magenta and green one, is the picture OK otherwise or is it quite dark? You can get a problem like this if the agc circuit is not working properly. There's a black strip at the edge of the tube face that it scans and from this determines the optical black level. There's a setting in the camera that determines where to take the reading from and if it's set incorrectly so that it's reading from the actual image part of the tube face then it throws the agc out and this also affects the colours. It's hard to say though without seeing it.

@@nowt1002 Sounds like it. The first VHS Reporter came in, refusing to eject. Behind the battery mount, there were two copper flexible contacts resting on the eject "release post". I got the tape out by pushing it up. The contacts seem to deal with the eject/load process. And for the other Panasonic WV-3160, the contrast/saturation is whack - almost to the point of a "chromakey mask effect." When powered the magenta/green intensity grows, until its only magenta. You used to be able to make things out fine, when desaturating the colour, but now the effect happens on the black and white. Thanks, this is the kind of info I like to find

Do you repair these for others? Or just a hobby buying broken ones and fixing them? Enjoy your videos especially when it's camcorders.

Hey i recently got my hands on the m7 camera but the zoom ring is stuck, i was wondering if theres a fix for it?
@nowt1002
@nowt1002 9 месяцев назад
Can it be turned manually? If it can then it is probably the gear attached to the motor that is seized up. It can be taken apart and lubricated. I have done it in a video, you have to completely take the camera apart to get to it though. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qFeyr8tb3sQ.html

I have the same one, and I'm afraid to take it apart. But exactly the same thing happens. It turns on, you see it for about 10 seconds. And then she goes off. Maybe it's the same belt problem.
@nowt1002

If you can hear the motor then it probably is the belt

Whats easier to repair/tinker with? This or the Panasonic M7?
@nowt1002
@nowt1002 Год назад
I'd say the M7 is probably a bit easier to take apart but the electronics in this seem a bit more robust. The main faults I've seen with these are worn loading belt and drift in the colour recovery circuit, both of which are quite easy to fix (provided you have a scope for the colour fault). The M7 has capacitors that fail and leak out causing damage to the board. Also the motor driver sometimes fails and a ccd delay line ic that you can't get anymore.

@@nowt1002 I see, thank you for the information. I currently have three broken M7s which I’m trying to make 1 fully working one out of (for hobby reasons and because I enjoy 80s tech though I’m still a novice at this stuff) so any info always helps. Many thanks again
@nowt1002

No problem. The capacitors in the power supply circuit often fail on the m7. If you get a picture from the camera but it's covered in horizontal black flashing bars then those caps are to blame.
@TheBorderlineWarrior
@TheBorderlineWarrior Год назад
@@nowt1002 oh wow! Thank you! Thats exactly whats happening with the one I’m working on. Are those the 220uF ones (the 10v ones over the 9V rail) you were talking about in the M7 repair video?
@nowt1002
@nowt1002 Год назад
Yes. C1015 and C1019. They might be labelled on the board as C15 and C19. There might be other caps in the power supply that need replacing as well such as the 16v rail ones which are 16v rated caps, I replaced them with 25v ones. It's those 9v ones that directly cause the black flashing though. They leak electrolyte so hopefully this hasn't destroyed any traces on the board. The service manual is here which shows you where the various caps are. freeservicemanuals.info/en/servicemanuals/viewmanual/Panasonic/NVM7/VWAM7/

Also I found an ebay listing in Greece for a Hitachi GP-61M(A)K with a vt-6500e, so maybe it is european after all.

Not sure if you have seen my other comments because they keep disappearing (does YT block ebay links?), but there is a JVC 3-tube camera on ebay starting on £50, ends tomorrow morning, no bids.

Just had a look at the camera. It's a good deal if it's working. You rarely see them come up other than the obligatory ridiculously priced listing that nobody is ever going to buy.
@bangerbangerbro
@bangerbangerbro 2 года назад
@@nowt1002 That's what I was thinking. I thought I'd tell you just in case it passes because it sems like a good deal but I can't justify buying it and wouldn't know how to use it. The person in Greece had a load of broadcast stuff mixed with consuemr stuff, with no price corrleation. They had a lot of ridiculous prices, but what was weird was that all the consumer stuff was also priced like it was broadcast, with some random panasonic CCD VHS camcorder priced almost at a grand. But anyway, all I was saying that I previosuly couldn't be bothered to re-type, was that I bought a Hitachi GP-61M(A)K last year and was beginning to think I had somehow bought something from the US (I still haven't got around to fixing my VT-7000E I bought last year to properly test my cameras), but the Greek person was selling an identical camera with another euro recorder, which gives me a bit of hope it is a euro cam and therefore useable to me.
@nowt1002
@nowt1002 2 года назад
Ah OK. Thanks for the tip. Yeah some people I dont think really know what it is they are selling. Maybe because the full size vhs camcorders go on your shoulder so they look a bit like pro ones. Or maybe they're just chancing it. Yeah hopefully it's a euro one. What's wrong with the vt7000?
@bangerbangerbro
@bangerbangerbro 2 года назад
@@nowt1002 You are welcome. Potentially, though this person is selling loads of stuff like that, quite a few broadcast cameras and even vision mixers and other broadcast stuff, as well as a bunch of consumer things. The consumer stuff is good condition and that camcorder may have been mint but at the end of the day no one would pay that. They probably wouldn't pay a grand for an old vision mixer either but I would imagine that would be more likely. We talked about the VT-7000E in about september last year but you probably don't remember. It wasn't giving any display from tape or camera. More recently I tested it again and it did managed to play a tape in full colour without any repair - this is when I tested playback with both cameras - the GP-61 gave a mess on the viewfinder while the JVC GX-N7 gave clear picture on the viewfinder. Drive to one spindle failed though and was struggling before. I assume thats a belt gone. Drive to the other seems perfect though. You told me something about an EE circuit or something like that that may have a problem. I'm thinking I'll get time to look at it properly soon. Good thing these things have proper service manuals too unlike a lot of newer consumer electronics.
