Good to see the panelvan getting attention again! Knowing what and how to do it makes it look easy but it takes years to get there. The rotisserie sure is a great asset. Looking forward to the next stage. Bill Mc

As others have said, good to see the Van getting some love again. Very interesting episode, its good to watch the careful deconstruction and seeing the layers and whats underneath. In reference to the bare metal between panels, im a Holden guy and i saw someone express their horror of the bare steel between panels on one of the early holden pages on Facebook and i thought, im sure they didnt expect us to still be driving these things almost 60 years later when they built them 😂 Its amazing to see how restorations have progressed to include the removal of quarters, door skins etc to adress this issue. Anyway, enough ranting😂 its great to see you going the extra mile to remove the gutters and have them made to help the people building them at home.

Howard, Great to see you're back on the panelvan. I'm inspired by your attention to detail and workmanship and I look forward to seeing how you're going to fill the side window openings without too much warpage. Several times you mentioned using various original panels as a pattern / template to fabricate replacement panels. Please tel me you'll be reproducing all the required panels for the upper rear liftgate structure ... even the rear liftgate itself !!! If so, I'll have a complete set !

@AstillDesign

Hi, I'm using ER70S4 the 70 is the tensile strength. You can get 2-4-6 these are the composition of the filler rod depending on the condition of the metal.

Wondering if you’ve ever tried easyphos on bare metal panels to keep them from rusting if they aren’t getting painted in the short term.
@AstillDesign
@AstillDesign 6 месяцев назад
I haven’t, it concerns me that it is an application with removal and what is going on the steel and how you remove it before paint
@robsgarage2037
@robsgarage2037 6 месяцев назад
@@AstillDesign according to the manufacturer you can epoxy prime directly over it as it provides a chemical adhesion. Panel needs to be clean before spraying it on and keeps the panel clean for 6 months. I've tried using it on my first build and found it to be good but never had any long term experience with paints over the top of it.

cool to see that , i thought the roof flanged out to mee tthe gutter and got spotted but you cut before the spot closer to the roof , had no idea the gutter was a single piece , i have the only two tone factory XE van ford made , it was for golden fleece , i have to do the roof , not rusty but been jumped on , its still in the original colour , i may try and shrink the roof first
@AstillDesign
@AstillDesign 6 месяцев назад
The roof does have a flange, I will be welding a new flange on. I need to save the gutter so we can reproduce them so others don’t have to do the flange.
@panelvanman7671

@@AstillDesign would you attempt to fix a stretched roof first before resorting to removing it , i have another roof its actually complete from the top to bottom were the ute part finishes , i would appreciate your thoughts
@AstillDesign
@AstillDesign 6 месяцев назад
I would fix the one on there, you will be surprised how it will come out if you take your time and work it up slowly. You can do more stretching getting it out if you hammer it too much. Try to push it out like PDR.

good question, I'm looking at using bronze in the door jams. something I haven't done before.
@robford2289
@robford2289 6 месяцев назад
Just lower the amps as you want to heat the steel, but melt the bronze, it’s different to start with but once you get used to its easy and less distortion. 👍
